    Mostly Permanent Residence

Not sure about the first two reviews on the RV park.  For one thing you cannot boat into this park nor is it on a lake.  It is located on Highway 67 west of Glen Rose.  It's basically a long term full time residential park.

    Thousand Trails Lake Whitney

A Campground for full time RV..ers

    • Sites are first come first serve - there is no holding sites especially if you are going as a group
    • No open fires - only propane or charcoal
    • Bathrooms were nice, clean and air conditioned...definitely a couple of notches above the Texas State Parks
    • No wildlife here...just the human kind
    • Nice shady sites but not a lot of elbow room (pretty cramped)
    • Take lots of allergy medicine if you are allergic to Red Cedar
    • 30 AMP sites with full hook ups
    • A lot of kids activities - water melon eating contest, face painting, etc.
    • Could see a lot of stars in the night sky
    • Don't hang anything from the trees..will get in trouble
    • No place to hang a garbage bag outside
    • Overflowing trash dumpsters
    • Propane filling station on the campground property
    • Cell service with T-Mobile was sparse. Verizon seemed to work fine.

We got a free Thousand Trails membership from the dealership when we purchased our new camper so we decided to use it for Labor Day at Lake Whitney RV Campgrounds. We went with our camping buddies (theDyrt Ranger Jenny S and family) who also pulled their camper. The sites are first come first serve and there is no holding sites, so if you go as a group finding sites that are together is tough (several sites were bagged and not usable).  We picked Sites #6 and #83 on Loop B. Luckily these sites back up to each other and the kids could roam between the two sites. The sites were 30 AMPs with full hooks up and that part was nice. Didn't have to watch tank levels every time someone (kids) flushed.

The campsites were pretty shady with red cedar trees which created havoc with my son's allergies. Poor kid was stuffed up the entire time we were there. The sites were pretty cramped, we were not able to extend our awning without hitting the tree branches. The road inside the campground is pretty beat up with lot of bumps. The amenities were nice - a family swimming pool, shuffleboard, washers, putt-putt golf. The campgrounds had several activities for Labor Day such as a water melon eating contest, frozen T-shirt contest which kept the kids entertained.

Don't hang anything on the trees. We had some LED light up and the park ranger had us take it down.  Was actually a little harsh about it. Following that encounter we took down the clothesline that we strung up to dry our swimming suits and wet towels. No place to hang a garbage bag either.

Politeness in customer service was hit or miss.

Our stay was free because of the Thousand Trails membership but otherwise each site goes for about $45/night. I'll do it again for free, if I have to pay...I will go down the street at Lake Whitney State Park for $25 with full hookups.

A Nice Spot, Perfect Distance From Town

We stayed here long term for work, in our camper trailer. This is a great place, for long or short stays. All sorts of rigs, maybe not quite the place for tents. The owner is very kind. The property is well maintained. Gravel pads, with all the hook ups. It's great not having to move to drain the tanks. There is a community area called the scale house, indoor and outdoor chill spots to enjoy the scenery. A small shower/laundry house, and overflow parking for boats, extra vehicles, etc. The creek runs along side the campground, and herds of sheep roam across the creek with friendly and protective sheep dogs. You can fish in the creek and in the pond located within the sheep field. We really enjoyed this spot.

    Lake Waco Marina

Nice lake views and quiet campsite

We are a small family with dogs and camp primarily on weekends. The road to the campsite is full of potholes. Once there, the campsite was quiet and comfortable. No hiking nearby but nice views of the lake and a marina full of interesting houseboats; some boats in the morning are loud out on the lake. Not too many obvious long term people, neat campsites. Plenty of people fishing. We stayed in A68 but I think the sites at the end would be better so far as lake views. Bathrooms could be cleaner. Some fire ants but it’s Texas. Saw plenty of wildlife (raccoon, skunks, deer, toad, waterbirds). Short drive to Waco and the Mammoth National Monument (which has RV parking).

    Quiet, small, secluded

This park was extremely quiet when I was there. The spring which "never dries up" wad salt dry when I was there, the first time as far as anyone can remember. The bird activity was great, and the trails were well maintained and easy to follow. Very historic site, the first state park in Texas. Campground has level sites with full hook up.

    Beautiful and quiet

East access to a quiet, beautiful place to stay in the country. Bring your fishing pole-both a creek and lake for guests to catch and release. Everyone we talked to was very friendly and welcoming. Stayed one night and took advantage of the hot shower, laundry, and fishing. Highly recommend. Not fancy, just well done. This is a working ranch with an RV park on it. A must stay if you are in the area. With Good Sam it was $33.75/night. Reservation only.

    Summer spot

Lots of clean campsites with improved fire rings and concrete tables. There are full RV hookups and covered awnings at sites. There are plenty of showers, both pit and modern toilets, shared bathrooms, and private bathrooms. There are everal Beach areas with sand and awnings, covered playgrounds, and boat ramps. This is a pretty popular campground, so if you're looking for isolated this is probably not your spot. Bring bug spray, buy your firewood in Corsicana or Waco as there isn't any wood in Dawson. You can collect deadfall to burn.

    Awesome rv park

Good rv park if you have horses or if you are just wanting to stop with your rv in Stephenville on the way somewhere else. Not really a place I would stay at just for the experience itself. Very clean. Not many amenities to speak of. There’s really not a lot to say about this place other than it has rv spots and cabin rental. It appears it is for sale right now so if you staying in the future I would recommend calling to confirm all info is correct.

    Good spot for camping

Been there last year during out trip to Texas( mainly hiking in Britton park and a few other local trail spots and camped at Dodge City RV park)

Pros: good clean spots for camping, everything you might need is pretty close
Didn't try RV spots, but those looked really nice too.

    Cons: Didn't find any.

If you gonna be visiting TX during June-July for trailing and camping - my advice is: make sure to get a pair of comfy shoes(my go-to are Brooks men's running shoes like those https://rununited.com/mens-footwear/) - trails are pretty rough and it's extremely hot and humid near bodies of water... Gotta dry your shoes every few hours

    Good Travel Stop

We stopped here for the night on our way West. The RV park is gated and you need an access code to get in. Stopped at the gate and called to get the code. We were told to take any spot we wanted except for 25 and 26. Found a great spot under a huge covered shelter which was great for shade on this 95 degree day. Sites are gravel with full hookups including cable. Free WiFi too. This place is mostly filled with perms, but there were 5-6 empty sites to pick from. Our site was level and it looked like most were. There is an ice and water vending machine just before the entrance. There is a laundromat that looked very clean. $1.50 to wash. I wouldn’t stay here more than a night, but it’s just fine for a travel stop. Passport America rate is $15. You put payment in a mailbox near the front.

Nice quiet little park in Central Texas

It’s quite a small park which makes it nice and peaceful. The campsites are spacious, clean and very well maintained. Full hook-ups and very level. Clean bathrooms and facilities. Park staff and hosts were friendly and helpful. There is not a lot to do in the general area, but having a nice quiet getaway is often a welcome experience. Nice and easily traveled hiking trails along with a nice pond area for evening wildlife viewing. There is also an old Indian cave and wash pond. One of Texas’ first and nicest state parks.

    Flat Creek RV Resort

Ideal Country Setting Only A Few Miles From Waco

There is nothing I like more than finding a nice place to retreat from a city which allows the comfort of the outdoors and relaxation with the convenience of the neighboring city amenities. It is the perfect blend of both worlds.

This can be a bit difficult for a tent camper however, so again I was able to find an ideal location for my RVing friends at this site. Normally that would instantly lower my rating because I cannot personally utilize the location at this time without a rig, however this site was so impressive I couldn't steer away!

Pulling up to the park the gate is grand. The park itself sits a short 5 minutes away from the city on a quiet road. The park is expansive and the accommodations rest several hundred yards away from the traffic of the small country road. It is so peaceful!!

Sites seemed to be spread nicely to have the sense of community but not being to close to form crowding. Each space is separated by a grassy area which accommodates a picnic table and has enough room for a little stretching room.

When I visited all of the units there seemed to be very well maintained and even though they do have both overnight and long term stay options, nothing seemed to have the "moved in" look (no underpinnings, no long sewage hoses typical of long term parks).

I was very excited to see the large area for walking your dogs, area which allowed space to play and roam, a pond to fish in or to enjoy, a fire pit for community use and very nice shower and laundry facilities.

The roads around the park were wide and well maintained, the green spaces were manicured well and as I visited people were all very friendly. It made me want an RV just so I could visit!

    Tips:

    • To stay at this park make sure you make reservations ahead of time. While there is plenty of space, they do fill up and reservations will ensure your stay especially during the more populated seasons.

    • Take advantage of the free wifi when here, just pulling in I checked it out and noticed it was pretty decent from all areas of the park.

    • Bring your fishing poles! This park has a variety of fish in the stocked pond perfect for a relaxing day at the park.

    Took the whole family out

Once again Cleburne State Park has been such an amazing place to visit. If you get to go please try to get spot (46) it’s a full hook up and tent camping. That’s not the best part of it it it right on the lake with its own beach area. As the wonderful park rangers in the front said, “ the best view and camping spot in the whole park”.

Finally glad to be back camping and having fun.

Love the location, so close to Dallas! This park is so quite and very dark at night! I loved that about this park, glad I arrived during the daylight it would be very difficult to find an RV spot at night! They have several full hookup sites closed right now due to some upgrades! The rest rooms were very clean! They have a good hiking trail! I had to walk about 1/2 mile to get to the water! It was so worth it! Got there just in time to go fishing while there were Sand Bass schooling! I ended up catching 15 and could have caught more but it was getting dark.

    Blue Hills Ranch - CLOSED

Good "Safari Park" ... marginal "RV Park" with poor access for RVs.

Interesting and enjoyable safari park with a good variety of animals. No self-driving through the park as in others we have been to. This one requires tickets, and a ride in a "side-by-side" Gator or similar vehicle with a very knowledgeable and friendly guide.  RV park is simply a gravel parking lot with hookups poorly placed completely at the rear of the site. 50a electric hookup only, so bring an adapter if you need 20a or 30a, and there is no breaker at post. Sewer is behind the power pole, so you need enough sewer hose to reach the rear of the site, and then around the post ... my 15' hose barely made it.  Much or the original park that opened 6-8 months ago is now taken up with equipment, and the individual who checked us in said they were "phasing out" the RV parking ... that is just as well I think.  What we were told is the recommended access route includes a very old looking one-lane 10 ton bridge. We came in further north and my passengers told me later that we crossed a (much nicer looking) 7 ton bridge on that route. Ours is a 7 ton rig, so we took the 10 ton bridge when leaving, and lightly drug the rear of our RV getting onto the bridge.  Sure glad we were not in our former 20 ton rig!!  I believe there is another route from US 84 that would avoid either of these bridges.  We paid $100 per night for this experience,

    Great little lake

This is a great little lake and campground, especially for fishing and boating. The campground offers nice, secluded campsites with full hook-ups. They each have a table & fire pit. The campsites are clean and well maintained. There are several fishing piers and boat loading docks. The lake is clean and great for tubing, standup paddle boarding or just swimming. There is also a roped off designated swimming area with a small beach. The campground is usually not crowded except for big summer holidays. Lots of wildlife like deer, etc. The public restroom & showers are clean and well kept. There also is a dumping station and a park host is on duty 24 hours a day. No hiking though but walking around the lake is really enjoyable. Bring your own water crafts because there isn’t any rentals offered here. Very low key & enjoyable.
