Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Alvin, TX

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Camp Mohawk County Park's pet-friendly grounds offer camping options with shaded sites for dogs and their owners. Four-legged companions are welcome at all campsite types including cabins, RV spots, and tent sites across the park's wooded landscape. Pet waste stations are positioned throughout the grounds for convenient disposal of dog waste, making it easy to maintain the clean environment noted by regular visitors. Multiple pets are allowed at each site without additional fees, though leash rules apply on all trails and common areas. The staff is consistently helpful and kind to both human and canine guests. St. Ives RV Resort nearby also accommodates pets with full-hookup RV sites in a quieter setting approximately 15-20 minutes from town.

Hiking trails at Brazos Bend State Park provide excellent dog walking opportunities while observing local wildlife, including the park's famous alligators from a safe distance. Dogs must remain leashed and under control due to the abundant wildlife, especially when near water features where alligators are common. Camp Mohawk's fishing ponds, playgrounds, and volleyball courts are all accessible with leashed pets, though dogs aren't permitted in buildings or swimming areas. Pet owners should pack extra water during summer months as temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity. The mosquito population can be significant, particularly during warmer months, so appropriate pet-safe insect protection is strongly recommended for both camping comfort and trail exploration with dogs.

Great rv campground close to airport

Great campground with wonderful staff who are very friendly. Full hookup, paved sites with heated saltwater pool and hot tub, workout facilities, clubhouse with games and puzzles, laundry facilities, a small camp store, and pet friendly with two small dog parks. The best thing about the location is that it backs up to Tom Bass park that has wonderful dog parks along with playgrounds and frisbee golf. Would definitely be staying here again!

    Traders Village RV Park

Houston, Tx…..Nothing to get excited about

It’s a large campground and spaces are very small. There’s a grass strip between camp sites. No picnic tables or grills. The office gave us a map and showed us how to get to our site but virtually impossible to understand. A very nice gentleman that stayed here took us to our site. He said they have no idea how to do directions and a buddy of his really messed up his camper by trolling around looking for their site. It’s very crowded and no room for awnings or for both campers side by side to put out awnings. There is a pool but it doesn’t look well maintained and there’s absolutely no chairs. Just the pool and it’s small. Laundry room is large. There’s no dog park or anywhere to walk your dog. Signs everywhere that say no pets, yet they are allowed. The flea market is only on the wknd. It’s close to a lot of restaurants and in a nice area.

    Beachside RV Park

    Best place in Bolivar Peninsula

This was such a blissful place to start my Texas snowbird trip. As a solo female traveler in a campervan I felt so incredibly safe and welcomed to this campground. Nancy and Butch are the kindest campground hosts I've ever encountered. They ensured to check in with me regularly during my two week stay, the bathroom, shower and laundry facilities were maintained consistently, and the dog park and closeness to the beach was perfect for my dog's daily exercise. For the reasonable price, I felt this campground delivered above and beyond. If I hadn't scheduled another campground, I would have stayed longer. Thank you to all at Beachside RV. You made my stay memorable.

    Bolivar Peninsula RV Park

    Still needs work

Pros: office lady very nice, site 1 has 1 tree for shade, ferry w/ our travel trailer from Galveston Island was easier than expected, large dog park, close to Camp Margaritaville.

Cons: gravel sites, bathroom super gross with no TP, dirt rv road kicks up lots of dust, right on noisy highway.

Houston / Med Center KOA Holiday

    A lot of Amenities

The park is clean, but the sites are tight. The further you get to the front the louder the traffic noise is, but the sites are larger and spaced out more. It is a five and take. It has three locations with washer and dryers, two dog parks, a recreation room and easy access to Tom Bass park.

    Beachside RV Park

    Affordable, Convenient, Amenity Rich

This is the nicest RV Park on the Bolivar Peninsula / Crystal Beach area. Truly. So well maintained, and quiet peaceful setting.

We were surprised that it had a nice dog park, indoor laundry, shower, wifi, gazebo for hanging out in and more, all included in the rate!

    Close to the beach.

Walk to the gas station and restaurants.

They are running a winter special.

Guide to Alvin

Brazos Bend State Park sits on 4,897 acres of coastal prairie approximately 25 miles from Alvin, Texas. The park features numerous freshwater marshes and lakes that support diverse wildlife, including over 300 bird species. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity, while winter months offer milder conditions with temperatures ranging from 50-70°F.

What to do

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Brazos Bend State Park Campground offers exceptional wildlife viewing with alligators being the main attraction. "Brazos Bend is know as the Alligator Park…and for good reason! Of you go on a moderate temperature day (this is the key. If it is too hot or cold you won't see Gators) you can see literally dozens of massive alligators. We are talking 6 feet long and right on the pathway," explains Ashley C.

Stargazing at the observatory: The George Observatory at Brazos Bend State Park Campground offers exceptional night sky viewing. "The best part of this park is the observatory, which has special events and regular weekend hours pretty much all year. It's absolutely worth staying up late for this!" says Kim B. The observatory hosts special events throughout the year.

Fishing opportunities: San Luis Pass County Park provides excellent fishing access without requiring a boat. "This campground sits right on the channel & has excellent fishing & crabbing. Has a boat ramp & fish cleaning stations," notes Susana H. The park features a lighted fishing path, making nighttime fishing possible.

What campers like

Beach proximity: Galveston Island State Park Campground offers easy beach access from its newly renovated beachside camping area. "Beachside has recently (past few years) been redone and they did a fantastic job! You are within easy walking distance to the beach," shares Jim P. The concrete pads are level with shelters at each site.

Pet-friendly environment: Follett's Island Beach provides free beach camping that welcomes dogs. "I brought my small dog Yoshi with me in this camping trip," states Andrea P. The 13-mile stretch of beach allows pets to enjoy the Gulf shore alongside their owners, making it one of the most accessible dog friendly campgrounds near Alvin.

Clean facilities: Jamaica Beach RV Resort maintains well-kept grounds and amenities. "The park is kept up as far a grass being cut and clean restrooms," reports Ricky B. Multiple pools, a lazy river, and hot tub provide recreational options for campers of all ages.

What you should know

Insect preparation: Mosquitoes can be prevalent, especially in warmer months. "If you go in the summer you need to watch out for mosquitoes," warns Joseph P. about Brazos Bend State Park Campground. Bring appropriate insect repellent for both humans and pets.

Weather considerations: The Gulf Coast experiences high humidity and hot temperatures during summer months. "Pet owners should pack extra water during summer months as temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity," is essential advice for those bringing pets to dog friendly campsites near Alvin.

Beach conditions: Follett's Island Beach has varying conditions depending on which section you visit. "North part of island has LOTS of debris, dead trees, branches, etc. No trash cans or porta pottys either," reports BL E. The southern portion typically offers better beach conditions.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: Jamaica Beach RV Resort offers numerous activities for children. "We love this park. We go every summer. Pools are the place to hang out. They have plenty of activities for the kids. Putt putt and movie night," shares Jay W. The resort is located about 20 minutes from Galveston.

Educational opportunities: Brazos Bend has a nature center with educational programs. "There is a small nature centre where you can pet baby Gators and learn about them," notes Ashley C. This provides hands-on learning experiences for children interested in wildlife.

Safety awareness: San Luis Pass County Park has strong currents that require caution. "They have a beach but no swimming is allowed due to deadly rip currents," explains Jeannette V. Families should be aware of safety restrictions and supervise children carefully in this area.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Galveston Island State Park Campground offers quality RV spots. "Sites are concrete, level, with a very nice shelter. We stayed on the beach side and easy access to the beach from pretty much any site," reports Jim P. The park provides electric and water hookups with a dump station available.

RV park amenities: St. Ives RV Resort provides a quieter setting for RVers looking to escape crowds. "Stayed 2 months and really loved the quiet. It isn't very close to town though probably 15-20 minutes," shares Filthy L. The park offers full hookup RV sites and accepts pets, making it another dog friendly campground option near Alvin.

Connectivity considerations: For working remotely, some campgrounds offer better connectivity than others. "My starlink is a little spotty with the trees but am still able to work remote with no major issues," notes Jules S. about Brazos Bend.
