What to do
Beach activities: 20 minutes to Galveston beaches from Jamaica Beach RV Resort, which offers nearby ocean access. "Beach is across the highway but easy to get to. Pools are the place to hang out. They have plenty of activities for the kids. Putt putt and movie night," reports Jay W.
Fishing options: Bay and canal access at several parks including Blue Water RV Resort. "Some of the sites they have available have fishing docks right behind the sites. We stayed in one of the sites with fishing docks and my husband had a great time fishing," notes Sheila C.
Walking trails: 2-mile and 6-mile paths adjacent to Houston Med Center KOA. "You can walk right out of the RV Park to the city park through a gate in the back corner. The city park has a 2 mile and 6+ mile walking path. It seems to be the only real place to get out and exercise in the area," explains Erika P.
What campers like
Pool complexes: Resort-style water features at Dellanera RV Park and other coastal parks. "Great campground with wonderful staff who are very friendly. Full hookup, paved sites with heated saltwater pool and hot tub, workout facilities, clubhouse with games and puzzles," says Tawnya.
Private beach access: Dedicated walkways from campsites to shoreline at several beachfront parks. "Love this park. We've been twice and will go again. Very clean, spacious, and literally steps from a private beach. Great location, close to the fishing pier and all Galveston has to offer," mentions Carrie K.
Security features: Gated entrances at multiple parks including Brazoria Lakes RV Resort. "This is one of the nicest rv parks in the county. They have on-site washers and dryers, a pool, dog wash, pond, golf carts, free air for your tires, connections and gates for your security," states reviewer Annata E.
What you should know
Site size variations: Back-in configurations common at most parks. "The park is in a big U shape with all back-in sites and concrete driveways and pads," according to a park visitor. Reservation windows open 6-12 months in advance for most parks.
Urban proximity considerations: Traffic noise at some locations, especially front sections of parks. "The front of the RV Park is by the toll road, and you can hear the traffic. We were in site 223 in the back, by the city park, and we could barely hear any vehicle noise," reports Erika P.
Wi-Fi limitations: Variable connectivity depending on park location and occupancy. For reliable internet, many guests use personal hotspots. Cell service tends to be stronger at parks closer to Houston metropolitan areas than at coastal locations.
Tips for camping with families
Water recreation options: Multiple pools and splash areas available at St. Ives RV Resort. "Definitely resort-y, lots of fun things to do, very well kept, and very clean! Not for those looking for nature camping experience as you are close from neighbors (mostly big rigs). Beach is right across the street," says Marina D.
Pet accommodations: Dog parks and washing stations at several locations. "There is a police officer or two, and a police dog, that live at the RV Park. There was one break-in that we heard about during our stay," notes a reviewer about security presence.
Game facilities: Mini-golf and recreation areas for family entertainment. "We enjoy the lazy river, putt, putt, and kayaking on the bay. It is an easy walk to the beach. Galveston State Park is on the other side to make a beach if you want to stay on the water," comments D. Scott W.
Tips from RVers
Extended stay discounts: Monthly rates 40-60% lower than equivalent nightly stays. "Stayed 2 months and really loved the quiet. It isn't very close to town though probably 15-20 minutes but there is at least one gas station kind of close," mentions Filthy L. about Alvin RV Resort.
Site surfaces: Concrete pads common throughout the region. "Clean Laundry room, very quiet and wonderful manager. Same RV park preferring long stays but allows short term, $175 week w/electric, $400 plus electric monthly," shares Rosemary G.
Utility considerations: Separate electric billing for monthly guests at most parks. "My only complaint is the electric is expensive for me, but I was home all the time and had 2 AC's and used electric heaters," reports TammyWhite A. about managing costs during extended stays.
