Best Cabin Camping near Tullahoma, TN

We visited Monte Sano State Park in the middle of summer (June) and stayed in the campground for five nights. We made our reservations through the Alabama State Parks web reservation portal at https://guestrez.megasyshms.com/5Q5BT for campground and cabin rentals. 

The campground is located near the city of Huntsville, Alabama to the east. The park was easily accessible and the drive from the city to the park was not typical as it takes you though some of Huntsville’s neighborhoods before arriving to the park’s entrance. Once we arrived we went directly to the visitor’s center where the staff was friendly and organized. Our paperwork was already completed so the check in process was quick but very informative. We also received the gate code for the campground as the gate is electronically operated and closes after every opening to provide a welcomed level of security. We stayed in site 25 of the first loop, the park was not crowded in the campground as the summer temperatures were near extreme highs. The camp sites are very well spaced and there’s enough trees and underbrush to offer privacy. There are a few sites that have full hookups but most are without sewer. The park map I’ve included shows the ones with full hook up services. The bath houses were clean and orderly, the staff came by in the mornings to clean and restock. There are two camper/tent loops with rest rooms and showers at each. One tent only loop with no facilities but beautiful large sites. 

The park has several scenic areas where the views of the mountains are great and provides a nice place to sit and ponder. There's also an operational Planetarium on the park sponsored and operated by the Von Braun Astronomical Society (https://www.vbas.org/). There are shows on Saturday’s at 7:30PM with an admission or $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. You will need to get there early though as parking is limited but worth the effort to visit. 

There are miles and miles of bike and hiking trails here, on the weekend it’s amazing how many cyclists come here to ride the trails. Some of the trails are very aggressive and some moderate for those of us that want this pace, the parks paved roads also offer a good place for a casual ride in the evenings. 

All in all, we really enjoyed this park and will add this to our return list in the future. I also have to recommend a visit to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center (https://www.rocketcenter.com/) in Huntsville, you won’t be disappointed.

Hobbs Cabin itself is a primitive shelter, with six wood bunks. Maximum occupancy is six people. Features a wood fireplace and fire ring. The cabin can be accessed via the North Rim Trail or the North Plateau Trail, which can be combined as a loop for an overnight trip.

The weather was less than ideal on our trip (rain) but we made the most of it and had the best time! There was firewood left under the cover of the porch, so we had dry wood for the wood fire place. So cozy!

This is literally my favorite place I have ever stayed anywhere in the world! I’ve done my fair share of camping and traveling and I have yet to find anywhere I would rather stay! The attention to detail in the cabin/treehouse and greenhouse bathroom is like nothing I’ve ever seen! Everything from the books/games on the shelves, artwork on the wall to the Jack Daniels barrel vanity in the bathroom is thought out and perfect for this place. The owners/builders Mitch and Lori were absolutely amazing to work with and made sure we had everything we could ever want and more available to us on the property. This is such a peaceful place to get away and perfect for those who aren’t a big fan of your typical camping experience of “roughing it.” My wife and I already have our next visit scheduled! Do yourselves a favor and book your trip to this property ASAP! I promise you will not be disappointed!

Great older campground with lots of options. Cabin, RV, tent. Hiking galore. This old campground atop Mont Sano has something for everyone.

We had such a great time at MSSP. We stayed in two sites (since we decided we wanted to stay longer when we got there): 48 & 61, which were both bluff sites. 48 is directly across from the bathhouse. My husband and I both agreed that the bathrooms could’ve been cleaner. I only looked in the showers since we have one in our camper and they were yucky and I’m glad we didn’t have to use them. Site 61 was our favorite of the two since it’s the last one on the bluff before the road goes into the primitive area. All the sites seem to be spacious which we liked. The office staff were all VERY kind and VERY helpful. The camp store itself is small but had pretty much anything you might’ve forgotten. The bike trails are numerous and while we don’t mountain bike we did ride our cruiser bikes down past the rental cabins and on past the gate onto a nice wide gravel trail. It was beautiful and we saw lots of wildflowers and deer. I highly recommend this park. It was lovely.

Loved spending a short time here. I wish it was longer but def want to come back and we are recommending to family and friends. Such a sweet place with nearly every comfort of home yet slightly rustic for a def glamping feel. Nearly everything you can think of is provided. They have a propane oven and propane stoves. Refrigeration is a cooler with ice that held our one night. Camp fire was going when we arrived with stacks of wood nearby and roasting sticks and a grate for cooking over the fire if you wish. Outdoor projector under the cabin with two one person hammock seats suspended by a car spring. The bed was great. The decor was awesome. Air worked great. Truly a refreshing place. Nice romantic getaway. We used it to launch to fall creek falls maybe 25 min away but there’s all kinds of places within an hour of there. There’s not a ton of places very close but a dollar general not too far. Pretty much just bring clothes and food. They even have tea tree shampoo soap and conditioner. It was such a cute spot. They even baked brownies for our birthday celebration.

This campground at Fort Campbell Kentucky used to be phenomenal! Now it is basically a run-down place to park but still have easy local access to the many MWR outdoor events such as skeet shooting horseback riding climbing wall. The creek is backed up and nasty, it looks like the water hasn't moved in Forever. The lake across the road looks like it no longer exists they've done so much dirt work that I can't even see it anymore. Although the cabins were always considered quite rustic one-bedroom cabins they are clean however they are small and a tight squeeze if your family is filled with teenagers or older kids

We recently stayed in a cabin and it was enjoyable. There were white tail deer everywhere, chipmunks, a tiny ring neck snake on a trail,...Huntsville is very close and a neat little store just in town called Star Supermarket. The park staff were all helpful and friendly.

I agree with the other reviews posted so far. Nice (but small) lots, most were level. Tents and cabins are available also. Nice staff, we got there after they closed but someone still met us and helped us find our spot. Nice bath house, laundry house, swimming pool, and dog park. Very close to Chattanooga sights.

Excellent campground for campers, pop ups, tent and cabins. Water and electricity on each site. Well maintained, camp steward on site. Clean restroom and bathhouse w/hot water. Plenty of pavement for kids to ride bikes as well as playgrounds and volleyball court. Swimming and fishing area minutes away. Pavillion and playground with multiple picnic areas. Several hiking biking trails. Excellent roads for biking also. A definite go back to.

If you have never been here you should!! Like now!! So beautiful. The campground is nice, just average I'd say, but convenient to enjoy all the beauty that the park has to offer. There is a playground for kids and day use areas as well. Hiking aplenty!! And close to Huntsville if you don't want to cook. The cabins are cute but we didn't get a peek inside.

The camp is perfectly situated in the middle of a picturesque forest surrounded by cliffs. We loved staying at the camp it has all the equipment needed for camping(fire pit, wood, grill, utensils, light, toilet, etc) and the cabin is so comfortable... it was like staying in a hotel room and less than 10 min away for the paragliding take off spot. Robert and Ruth welcomed us so warmly we will be back for sure!

Henry Horton State Park has that back country lived in feel. Probably has something to do with the multitude of kinfolk wandering about:)

South of Nashville, Tn 31A runs right through the middle of the actual park.

Duck River runs through the park and is a main focus of the entertainment with rental places picking up tubers from on the road into the tent area. (Yes, I received several dirty looks for driving on the road toward the tent area.) I parked in the restroom area as the road was completely blocked with children, inner tubes and adults.

The tent area had BIG sites that would easily fit several tents and trees for hammocks. There are 10 sites. The river was at the rear of the tent area as well as a trail Adeline Wilhoite River trail that followed the river. There are also primitive campsites available if your backpacking through located near the observation deck on the Adeline Wilhoite River trail loop.

The bathhouse is newer and well kept. There is a playground in the middle of the campground area, in front of the visitors office. ( pretty awesome looking sandpit)

The RV area is adjacent through the woods it has 56 sites. The sites looked adequate, but from what I saw they were close together. There may have been more space further in.

There is an Inn and cabins available also on the other side of the park/river.

We enjoyed the trails , just gotta say BUG SPRAY :) Keep your eyes open for critters and there are bikers using several of the trails.Wilhoite Mill Trail is one of the features of the park, which leads to a historic mill.

So pack your banjo and yak and git on out to Henry Horton State Park for a good ole time !

I wasn’t sure what to expect judging by their website pictures but camping here in June on a waterfront lot we had a beautiful view of the river and mountain out our back dining area window. The pool closes when the office closes so in the heat of the afternoon around 4 o’clock the pool closed. That was unfortunate because the heat index the last couple days has been at 110 degrees. Too hot to sit outside and the pool was closed. There was a mayfly hatch overnight and the office and floating cabins were covered with them.

For several months while living in TN, we spent almost every weekend at Henry Horton State Park. It’s not quite an hour from Nashville. We always got a primitive site, shady site. I was never disappointed by any of our sites and never felt cramped or too close to other campers.

HH has RV sites, cabins, “hammock sites,” and a large group site. They also have a camp store, firewood, and restrooms. Rates are pretty standard. Backcountry primitive hike-in sites are $8.

Interactive heritage festivals and other activities frequently came to the center across the street. I don’t really recall if this is part of the park or not.

Absolutely the BEST primitive campground! My family and I regularly come to Camp Chet for several reasons: the scenery, accommodations and not to mention we love the hosts! Ruth and Robert make every effort to make sure your stay is a comfortable and adventurous experience! The trails are so clearly, well marked out and they even have a detailed map available on the website. My boys love climbing the rocks and discovering all the neat caves and nooks. There is a storage area near the primitive cabins that has everything you could think of and we often leave supplies for the next crew. We love Camp Chet!

Monte Sano State Park is located near Huntsville in northeast Alabama. In Spanish, Monte Sano means “Mountain of Health.” In the late 1800s, visitors from across the United States came for “the season” to experience and enjoy Monte Sano’s fresh air, spectacular views and mineral springs. Fourteen rustic cabins, 11 of which were built by the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC), are perched on the side of the mountain and are equipped with kitchens, fireplaces, separate showers and baths, cable television, outdoor grills, picnic tables, and porches for taking in the amazing sunrises.

The park also features 89 improved campsites, a primitive campground and a camp store.

Great place extremely friendly and professional staff got great cabins to stay in or if you bring a camper, RV or pull behind they have spots for all and even have a primitive camp area where just tents or hammocks are allowed. You can build campfires and your fur babies are allowed just gotta keep them leashed. It's full of trails to hike from beginner to extream you can cycle the trails as well. They also have a great big park for the little ones or big ones Wich ever make you feel young again😁😁. It's just a great place for all the family to enjoy the great outdoors.

General: Three distinctly different areas: tent only section, cabin area, and the main campground. I didn’t see the inside of the cabins, but they looked very luxurious from the outside, so I am sure they are very nice. The tent area also looks nice. This review focuses on the main campground. 

Site Quality: Camper pads are all paved but vary in length from 18 to 51 feet. The width of some can also accommodate two cars side by side. Not all are completely level. Each site has a picnic table, lantern hook, fire ring, and grill. All sites have electricity and water, and eight of the 50 sites are FHU. There are many trees to provide separation and privacy, and sites are spaced a decent amount of space apart. Some sites can accommodate tents, and these are indicated on the post. 

Bath/Shower: Very clean. There was a sign saying the bathrooms are cleaned twice per day. Soap, paper towels, and utility hooks are all appreciated as was instant hot water from the taps. 

Activities/Amenities: Many outdoor activities including tennis, basketball, volleyball, horseshoes, and a playground. There are two hiking trails accessible from the campground. I hiked a short distance on the Bluff Trail until it became narrow and overgrown. There are other hikes that require a drive from the campground. The best hike is in the Twin Falls area but that is a 10-15 minute drive from the campground. There is also a swimming beach with a rentable pavilion and picnic tables. It is possible to walk there but easier to drive. We also saw people kayaking on the lake and fishing is permitted. Each bathhouse also has one washer/dryer for a reasonable price. Free WiFi with a good, strong signal. 

We enjoyed our two-night stay at this campground and for us, it was a five-star stay but I gave it four stars due to some sites not being completely level and the necessity to drive to the best hike.

Some really nice sites on lake and shaded. Inner sites are nice as well and have sewer. Good space between sites. 30 and 50 amp. The old section that was for yearly rental is gone. Big plus because these are nice sites as well. Restrooms and showers were clean but could’ve better. Great place for kayaking and swimming. Roads in park have couple of bad spots but they have been working on them. Need to enforce their dog lease rules. Again Tennessee should update this park. Get with it ! The potential is great.

We stayed at this campground in the middle of November 2020 around Veterans Day.  We booked one of the cabins which was perfect (there are several at various sizes).  The one we stayed in had two rooms; one to sleep in (a double and a bunkbed) with a small fridge, microwave, and coffee maker and a bathroom with a walk in shower.  The campground was clean and quiet.  There was a Landry room at the bathhouse, which we were able to wash our clothes before heading home.  You are minutes from Chattanooga and other sites like Ruby Falls and Lookout Mountain/Rock City (it's best to purchase ticket online and recommended by the sites).  The staff was awesome and polite, easy to talk to.  There was a hiking trail.  You can tour the cavern for a cost, which was separate from the park office.  We look forward to staying again, hopefully by then in a RV.
