Campground Review:
Been camping here off and on over the last month and a half.
I started out in the lower campground which has cement pull through pads, not much shade, privacy or room. The showerhouse with coded entry is sorta creepy (good place for a horror movie shower scene, just sayin)
The lake demolition is almost complete, I think.( been over a year, they took a big hill and made it into a valley )
There are also cabins along the edge of the campground.
The Trap Range is co-located and has been active with several Soldier oriented events, Cornelius is not a fan.
After a week I decided to try out the upper campground.
The sites are situated back through the woods in a u shape with 30 (1-7)and 50 amp sites. Mostly shaded, gravel pads that flood when it rains. A little more privacy but the sites are still pretty close together. The setting is more quiet and secluded feeling. About 5 of the sites are completely run down and no longer in use along the back of the campground. Definitely nicer coded entry showerhouse with laundry on the side of the building.
The wildlife includes a LOT of deer that walk through the campground throughout the day, groundhogs and a skunk (Kato found him :() some geese and ducks near the stream and an occasional rabbit and blue heron.
As I stated in my earlier review the trails have not been maintained. You can still find the trail markers and wooden steps in the woods but the trails are completely over grown. The gravel road above the "no longer a lake" construction site leads back almost straight lines for almost a mile with other spurs leading off. There are also several dirt trails through the woods that are used by the privately owned horse riders.
Product review: As a Dyrt Ranger I review outdoor products while adventuring. Recently I received a Ledlenser headlamp.
I've used it for two plus months now and it is my go to light for night shenanigans. Once fitted on your head with the easy adjustment strap it's ready to go. Big button on top that's easy to feel turns the lamp on. Adjustable tilt make it useful for close up and further in front of you. Then there's the "telescoping" light adjustment for tighter focus.
The only con I have noticed so far is that there is no padding between the lamp body and your forehead save the strap which can cause some irritation if you wear the headlamp for awhile. Otherwise this is a reliable light source.
