Lake Aire RV Park accommodates pets in all camping areas with no additional pet fees. This Hollywood campground offers both tent and RV sites where dogs are welcome, with multiple reviewers noting the property is excellent for dog walking with plenty of grassy areas and walking paths around the small lakes. The bathrooms remain consistently clean according to visitors, making this a comfortable base for exploring with pets. Nearby Oak Plantation Campground also welcomes pets with spacious, shaded sites under large oak trees draped with Spanish moss. Both campgrounds provide full hookup sites for RV campers with pets, while maintaining clean facilities and offering convenient locations for exploring Charleston with four-legged companions. Quiet, pet-friendly tent areas are available at Lake Aire with or without electric hookups.

Trails around Lake Aire's ponds provide daily entertainment for both campers and their dogs, with resident ducks that often follow visitors during walks. Several reviewers mentioned being able to easily let their dogs roam at their campsites, particularly noting site K1 as an outstanding, secluded option with plenty of space for pets. Both campgrounds require standard leash policies in common areas. Visitors should be aware of ant populations at Oak Plantation, with several campers recommending preventative spraying where RVs touch the ground to prevent ants from entering vehicles. The proximity to Charleston (about 25 minutes) makes these pet-friendly campgrounds convenient bases for exploring both urban attractions and nearby beaches where many dogs are welcome with proper leashing.

Campground at James Island County Park

      Hidden gem for visiting Charleston

When making reservations at James Island County Park we had modest expectations, but we were going to tour Charleston most of the time, so we decided anything close to the city would be good enough. The campground turned out to be very nice. We wished we had stayed there longer to enjoy not only Charleston, but the nature beauty of the park itself. The campground is located in a huge park with lots of amenities. The sites are spacious, covered with trees, full hookups with 50 amp service. There are a lot of shaded picturesque walking and bike trails in the park. The dog park was amazingly big, with a little doggy beach for water lovers. There is a big kids playground with a fun looking spray play fountain. It is located just 15 min drive from the campground to downtown Charleston. It is a great campground to stay when visiting Charleston. We have a video on our YouTube Channel- Summertime RV Rovers- about this park- Great Campgrounds in Coastal South Carolina: Charleston and Hilton Head Island. Please check for yourself. We camped at James Island County Park in a Motorhome.

Campground at James Island County Park

      Awesome Place to RV Camp

We found this campground well maintained and quiet. The bath house was recently remodeled and now has air conditioning. I found it to be one of the nicest bath facilities we have ever used. The campsites have full RV hook-ups and come with a picnic table and fire ring. The park does allow pets and has a dog park with a beach; it seems like the pups were having a marvelous time playing chase on the beach. This is a County Park with trails for walking or leisure biking. A new water park is under construction and should open this summer. The camp store is well stocked and the staff was very friendly and helpful. One downside was the WIFI (one of the perks at this place) did not work the entire 5 days we were there. I need to work remotely so this was a BIG problem. I had to go to the Starbucks to work...bummer! Positives were the easy drive and parking at nearby Folly Beach during the week, and the close proximity to Historic Charleston.

      Stay Here

This is by far the best camp ground I have ever stayed at. Clean and spacious sites. The Bath house and private shower area were 5-star hotel quality. Great dog park very clean with separate areas for large and small pets. The pool, lazy river, Tiki Bar and restaurant area was top quality, providing plenty of lounge chairs, tables/w umbrellas, and free pool floats for the lazy river experience. The are plenty cabana setups throughout the pool complex. They were quite expensive and frankly mostly empty for the week I stayed there.(August). Food was outstanding and consistent throughout our stay. My family highly recommends a stay. We will be back.

Best of the best of everything!

This place has it all & it’s all amazing!! First of all, ALL of the staff are so incredibly kind & hospitable. 2nd, the sites are very large & have every hookup you could want including cable. The park is surrounded by a beautiful walking trail that cuts thru the woods & several areas of the campground. There’s a great, big dog park & an indoor, air conditioned dog spa with several really nice dog wash stationed with temp controlled water, not just cold. The bars are great, yummy drinks & great food. The pool….so nice. There’s a big spray fountain & an awesome lazy river. There’s also a tiki bar at the pool & you can rent cabanas. The clubhouse shop has everything you could ever want & such cute souvenirs. Stuff for the pets too. Most sites are woods views but one area has great water & golf course views. Oh, the golf course, stunning!! I’m sure I’m missing so many things but all I can say is I booked my next visit on the 1st day I was here. 10/10

Campground at James Island County Park

      Perfect park setting

This is a big county park over 600 acres. We could only get reservations for two nights since there was no availability. However this was my favorite ever park to camp at. The campground is tucked in the back of the park. There’s numerous walking/biking paths and a terrific dog park with lake access. The park is very clean and well-maintained. I wish we had more time to explore this lovely, serene park.

    Guide to Hollywood

Pet-friendly camping in Hollywood, South Carolina sits at the junction of coastal plains and maritime forests, where average summer temperatures reach 90°F with high humidity levels. Campsites in this region typically feature sandy soil with palmetto tree coverage providing partial shade. Seasonal afternoon thunderstorms are common during summer months, particularly between July and September.

    What to Do

Fishing opportunities: James Island County Park offers freshwater fishing in their 16-acre lakes system, where catch-and-release fishing provides entertainment for campers and their dogs. "There's a small lake, round-trip shuttle service, and crabbing & fishing dock," notes Stuart K.

Plantation tours: Mount Pleasant-Charleston KOA provides access to nearby plantations with convenient transportation. "They also had a free wagon ride to a nearby plantation a couple of times a week. We actually missed it but would really like to take the time to do it if we ever get back," shares Ashley W.

Beach exploration: Edisto Beach State Park provides excellent beachcombing and wildlife viewing opportunities within walking distance of campsites. "Shelling was incredible—especially if you walk towards the inlet around low tide," reports Katie F., making this an ideal destination for pet-friendly camping near Hollywood.

    What Campers Like

Spacious sites: Oak Plantation Campground features well-separated campsites under mature oak trees. "Large park with paved and grass sites...even though there were a fair amount of guests, they spread everyone out so I had no immediate neighbors," reports Taylor D.

Walking paths: Givhans Ferry State Park offers riverside recreation with multiple trail options. "There is no boat access from the park but there is access so you can float down the river on Kayaks or floats. Just make sure you have a car further down the road because the currents will not let you back up the river," advises Tracy F.

Proximity to attractions: Joint Base Charleston Outdoor Recreation Center provides a convenient location for exploring the region. "This campground is close to a ton of activities... One highlight that doesn't seem to get much press is Old Downtown North Charleston Park Circle area. The restaurants, bars, breweries & distillery are super nice (and dog friendly) and are a must see," notes Corby M.

    What You Should Know

Seasonal considerations: During summer months, Hunting Island State Park can experience challenging conditions. "Uneven sites, horrible potholes and poor drainage throughout the park. We did have some torrential rain our first night, but the puddles didn't drain after 4 days," reports Kristen S.

Site selection: At James Island County Park, certain sites offer more advantages than others. "IMHO the best slots in this RV exclusive campground are those on the perimeter with the best sites being the ones without anything behind them, specifically on the NW periphery with sites #46 - 55," advises Stuart K.

Insect management: When staying at Oak Plantation with pets, be prepared for insects. "We got a tip from a neighboring RVer to spray for small ants anywhere that the RV touches the ground so the ants won't crawl up and get in our RV as it did theirs. We promptly went to buy ant spray and never had a problem," notes Joan.

    Tips for Camping with Families

Water activities: Edisto Beach State Park Campground offers both beach and wooded camping areas ideal for family outings. "Edisto has a beach camping area and a wooded area. The option for RV or tent camping without all the excessive price," reports Karen G.

Playground access: Mount Pleasant-Charleston KOA provides multiple recreational options for children. "Our site was very close to the lake and we had a great view. We were also right beside the pool and playground area so it was convenient to walk over," states Ashley W.

Budget-friendly activities: James Island County Park includes numerous recreational amenities. "Plenty of sights to see in Charleston. It has a fantastic dog park and several miles of paved walking/biking paths," shares Terry J., making this an excellent option for pet-friendly camping near Hollywood, South Carolina.

    Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: Prepare for potentially uneven surfaces at Oak Plantation Campground. "Our site had a concrete pad but the concrete pad was broken up into large pieces of concrete which makes it hard to level," reports Caroline S.

Traffic navigation: When staying at Oak Plantation, plan your exit strategy. "The road in front of campground is extremely busy (Hwy 17) and I wouldn't attempt ever turning left to get out. Just take a right and another right behind campground to get you out. It may take longer but worth your sanity," advises Joan.

Site selection: At Tiny Town RV Campground, RVers appreciate the straightforward setup. "Easy to get in and out of the campground with our 28 foot travel trailer. Pull thru, level sites. Peaceful location surrounded by trees," notes Lea, highlighting another option for pet-friendly camping around the Hollywood area.
