FamCamp JB Charleston SC

Stayed at famcamp on our way to FL, also stayed in November 2022.  Love this place.

Has long paved patio, everything was super clean.  The host cleans the patios after each rv pulls out.  The restrooms are clean the host/hostess' are very kind and helpful.  I loved watching and hearing the planes take off and taps and reveille were a plus.  Nice golf course and playground and also good place to ride the bike around the base.

So glad hubby is retired military to enjoy this place!

Something to do!

The campground is well kept with under 100 slots, it has an adjacent park, tennis and basketball courts. Next to both a frisbee and a nice golf course.

JB Charleston Famcamp

So far so good, everything is in working order, everything is clean. The leaves are falling like crazy so that will be a big effort to get clean. Price to stay is phenomenal compared to the last KOA. If anything changes for good or bad I'll add to this review.

Clean and level sites

This is a military CG so Military ID is needed. Very clean and level sites with full hookups. Most all sites are paved and easy access to downtown Charleston 🏝 you will here jets taking off and landing with the occasional gun fire from the firing range. Best of all taps and reveille are a mainstay everyday❤️

Feels like home

We have been on the road for six weeks and this has been our favorite campground. It is maintained so well and the camp host is always working to keep it clean and well groomed. There aren’t a lot of amenities, but there are full hook ups and clean bathrooms.

Very clean!

This RV park was very clean and the base offered a good amount of amenities. There were about 5 tent sites and the rest RV sites. We stayed in site C and it flooded a bit in the rain but the other sites seemed to do fine.

Serene, peaceful RV park

Wonderful RV park.  During the day there is the near by airport noise, but evenings are peaceful and relaxing. With 7 am revilee and evening taps, you know you're on a military base.  Also nice is the feeling of safety when the police cruise by regularly.  We sleep comfortably feel very safe and secure. From the minute we arrive, the people have been so welcoming and friendly.  The only bummer is due to covid, the laundry and showers are closed.  But, we are so happy the park is open! The Camp Host's are very nice and I see them everyday working around the property, keeping it nice and clean.  We will definitely stay again.

Spectacular Military Family Camping

I am a retired military office and my son is stationed at Charleston AFB, so this campground is a perfect place for my wife and I to stay at while visiting our son. COVID-19 kept us from camping here the first week we were in town (we stayed at Lake Aire in Hollywood...check-out my review of that campground), but once the Health Protection Condition was reduced, reservations were easy to make through Outdoor Rec at 843-963-1732 or 1672.

Check-in was smooth and easy & site 12 was easy to back into and set-up was a breeze on this wide concrete pad. The sites are comfortably spaced and there was plenty of room for us to relax and enjoy ourselves.

Laundry and the bathrooms were closed because of COVID. Over the air TV provided plenty of essential TV and news access, and the WiFi was surprisingly good. There are a lot of pull-through sites that they reserve for bigger rigs.

Our site backs up to an open field near a playground. While we don't have little kids and a need to access the playground, the field was a nice place for the dog to roam.

Another review mentioned the giant voice that plays reveille at 0700, the anthem at 1630, and retreat at 1000. It may be annoying to some, but after a few days we got used to it and we could easily fall back to sleep in the morning. You should also know that the campground is near an active military and civilian flight-line, so expect aircraft noise.

The campground is close to a ton of activities that were mentioned below. One highlight that doesn't seem to get much press is Old Downtown North Charleston Park Circle area https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g54171-i105-k6958193-Take\_a\_detour\_to\_old\_downtown\_NORTH\_Charleston-Charleston\_South\_Carolina.html

The restaurants, bars, breweries & distillery are super nice (and dog friendly) and are a must see.

The next time we visit our son, we will definitely be back on base for a spectacular camping experience.

Military campground 15 minutes to downtown

This is a military-only campground on Charleston AFB. The campground is located near the golf course and outdoor recreation center, providing close access to golfing, soccer golf, disc golf, a climbing wall, and archery range. A short walk away is the galley and a mile away is the gym. Right next to the sites is a large playground and covered shelter with grills. The sites are wide, level, paved, and well-spaced. The bathhouse is heated and clean. This campground was wonderful. Really, my only complaint are the speakers in the rec center parking lot that blare reveille and taps. You expect this on base. But boy, it is way-beyond-reasonable loud!!!!!!  As for local recreation beyond base, it is a quick jaunt either to the west or east gates to get on roads into town. In Charleston, we walked around downtown, took the ferry to Ft Sumter, toured the USS Yorktown, and visited Ft Moultrie. We would have loved to go to a baseball game but the season hadn't kicked off yet. Would visit again and highly recommend. Just bring ear plugs.
