You'll know this campground is special the minute you drive through the entrance. Azaleas, oaks and loblolly pines give a signature touch to its Lowcountry charm. Nearby, the historic Magnolia Plantation and Middleton Place feature beautiful gardens. Beat the summer heat at Whirlin' Waters Adventure Waterpark (located within North Charleston Wannamaker County Park). Attractions abound in lovely Charleston, where horse-drawn carriages clip-clop along the historic harbor. Tour Fort Sumter National Monument, where the Civil War began, and the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. Watch the skies for military/commercial planes - you might spot a Boeing 747 Dreamlifter. Bring a group - the campground has a great recreation building with a full kitchen and meeting facilities. An exciting addition is the family lodge - a fun home-away-from-home that sleeps up to eight people. Pool: March 15 - October 15. Max pull thru: 70 feet.

    Awesome Camping Cabins

We stayed in the camping cabins and loved them! The bathroom was super clean, the sites were very nice and the waterway and amenities were really awesome! Lots of places close by to eat at but this feels so tucked away all at the same time.

    Nice stopover

We only stayed here one night as we were traveling to points south. It was February, so not packed full, but a fair amount of “winter camping” enthusiasts in the park. Typical of a KOA, sites are rather closely packed. It’s very nicely wooded for the most part and there are a variety of options to be had, including camping cabins. There are also luxury rv sites that have cement pads with patios, grills and patio furniture along with full hookups. We happened to be there after a period of heavy rain and there were large puddles and some sites partially flooded, so there might be some drainage issues. The bathhouse was acceptable, not really new, basic but clean with lots of hot water. A few blocks from the beach, but they have a shuttle (in-season) and golf carts to rent. I imagine it’s a very busy place during peak season. Friendly check-in with a helpful escort to the site. Camp store, laundry, games and play areas for kids also available.

    Rustic Cabin Check in delay

We just visited the Myrtle Beach KOA and stayed in one of their rustic camping cabins. First the good — The staff we dealt with were pleasant and helpful. The campground was generally clean and there was a reasonable amount of space between the sites. Now the bad — we arrived at 4:30pm to check in and found that the camp store closed at 4:00pm - everyday. For those who forgot something or needed to pick up some ice or other necessity, you would have to leave the campground to get it. Second; upon arrival (4:30) we were told that none of the rustic cabins were ready and to come back in an hour. Not a great way to be welcomed. Next, the shower/bath house appeared clean but there was a distinct smell that made it feel like it might not have been that clean. Finally, the KOA is right downtown, so there is a good deal of noise from outside the campground. Lots of sirens, fireworks, and engine noise from US 17(Business). Final analysis: We really don’t like Myrtle Beach (too much of a tourist trap) and we probably wouldn’t come back. We were only there because I had some work to do in the area and needed a less expensive place to stay.

    Fantastic place for a Pirate!

This is such a great place, with multiple pools, a lazy river, cabins and golf carts to rent, right on the ocean, what more can you ask for? There is an arcade as well as so many activities AND an ice cream shop (this is the first time I had Moose tracks Ice cream). Yum!

    Perfect ocean front spot

Very nice park! We had ocean front spot site 695. Spot was sandy and looked a little sketchy to back into, looks as if someone got stuck. We ended up backing up just fine with no problems and pulled out just fine as well. Bathrooms were close and very clean, great water pressure. They pick your trash right at your spot every morning. Had a minor electrical problem, called and they were right there vey quick and fixed the issue. Lots of things to do, Pool, lazy river, splash pad, and kayak/peddle boats. Putt putt cost money but it’s available. Gulf cart rentals as well. The ocean beach is so beautiful and it was not busy. Just a perfect spot. I recommend going to Broadway on the beach for things to do in the area.

We did how ever have family fly in and rented a cabin. Sharon from the office was not so friendly she only deals with cabin rentals so if your here to camp in campground it’s a great place!

    An oasis

As we got closer to the KOA our expectations began to drop since we were driving through residential and commercial areas. But we were very pleasantly surprised at how quiet and relaxing the campground is! The campsites are nicely shaded, spacious and range from tent sites to deluxe pull-throughs to very nice cabins right on the water - some even have a deck that extends to the water’s edge. The staff is super friendly and helpful! You’re literally a block away from the beach and the campground runs a shuttle to the beach throughout the day, all the amenities you could need are just minutes away. An amazing place for families or if you’re looking to get away for a beach vacation.

    Mount Pleasant/ Charleston KOA, SC

Located only 15 minutes from downtown Charleston and 10 minutes from Shem creek this campground is gorgeous and spacious. They offer kayak and bike rentals. There’s a beautiful lake that allows catch and release fishing. Some tent sites and cabin sites are right along the water and offer nice views. There’s a one mile loop trail through the woods and along the lake. There are waste bags scattered throughout the park and a huge dog park. (But it’s quite far from the campers) There are multiple playgrounds and many kid friendly activities to do including corn horn and other games. The price is more expensive than we’d like to pay, especially for a site with only water and electric. No dump station. The bathrooms are clean and accessible to wheelchair bound guests. The store has everything you may have forgotten! Overall our stay was great!

    New Years Eve Weekend

We stayed here over New Years Weekend, dates were December 30th, 2022 to January 2nd, 2023. We had such a great time!

Amenities that were closed were the Big Pool and Waterpark.

But the following were still still open: Lazy River (Heated), 2 outdoor and 1 indoor pools (heated), 1 outdoor and 1 indoor jacuzzi, mini golf, basketball courts, gaga ball, Tennis Courts, and in the outdoor court yard many small activities. Indoor activities that were open were the indoor arcade, mini bowling alley, and Fitness Center.

For food they had a little cafe that offered good food and drinks. They do have a happy hour.

They offered a general store with a good array of items not limited but to include RV Parts (Surge protectors, sewage parts/ Treatment, Propane Hoses, Coax Cable, etc), condiments, basic groceries, alcohol, souvenirs, and outdoor games.

The only not positive thing was that we made reservations for a New Years Eve Buffet. For 3 adults and 2 kids it was $225.00 dollars. The food was good but I don’t think it was worth that.

Golf cart rentals for a 4 seater were $75.00 a day. We did it for one day.

    Lakeside Marina & Resort

    Lakeside Bliss on Lake Marion

You’ll find this particular destination tucked away in one of the crevasses of Lake Marion, just off Rt. 6 and a stone’s throw from Indian Bluff Recreation Area, which is a gem to go hiking around and finding a nice spot to cast a line into the water for a slow day of fishing.

This campground is one part marina, one part multi-faceted campground escape. While they do have a handful of spots for RV’s and trailers, in addition to renting a handful of cabins directly on the lake, I was delighted to discover that the real find here is the small island that sits directly across from the marina, where there are endless tent camping options. I would consider the experience fairly primitive over on the island, as there isn’t any running water or electric to speak of, but a short little canoe ride and you’re back in civilization (er, the marina).

I would highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to get away from it all – and don’t mind being a bit secluded. If you have your own canoe or kayak, great, but if not, fret not, the marina will loan you one if you’re staying with them, and if you’d like anything else to rent (house boat, sail boat, innertubes, paddle boards, etc.) they have it at the boat house.

    Happy Camping!

We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin for this trip. It was a great campground. It had a pool, camp activities, hiking/nature trail. It was extremely clean and the staff was friendly. I have stayed at here several times over the years. I’ve done primitive camping as well as staying in the cabins. I really enjoyed the multitude of options when it comes to outdoor activities. Kayaking, boating, paddle boarding, and fishing just to name a few. The facilities are well laid out and fortunately, at the times I went, it wasn’t too busy. A bit rough

The location is fabulous. On the Sampit River and close to the cute little village of Georgetown.
The road in is rough. Not paved. About a mile long. Hold on. Was told the cg is under new ownership and there is work to update and clean it up. That being said, 30/50 amp pedestals, sewer and water. A small view of the river on some sites has been blocked by new cabins. There is a boat launch and marina as well

One of the Best in the Area!

There are quite a few campgrounds in the area to choose from and this is among the best. I've camped here, swam here, explored the beach here, worked here, gotten to know many of the staff, and even hosted a triathlon here. You just can't beat Pirateland in summer or winter. If you don't want to camp in a tent, they have quite a few trailers and cabins for rent that are pretty nice. If you don't have a bike, you can even rent a golf cart and roll your way around. If you bring a kayak, there are some great salt marsh areas to check out as well.

BEST CAMPGROUND EVER. This campground has everything, most campgrounds claim they are a resort when really there a dump. This place is a true resort, it is very clean and modern. The campground has so much to offer... pools, activities, game rooms left and right, it’s just stunning. There’s places to walk everywhere, cabins are like 5 star hotels, they have a huge water park, mini golf, bowling ally and so much more. Would highly recommend. I’ve never had a campground have me speechless. I really enjoyed my time here. This place is new and I hope it continues to thrive and stay in good shape. My new favorite place 👍🏻

    Fun Family Reunion!

Had a ton of fun with our small family reunion at Pirateland! Not all of us had campers, so the fact that the campground offered cabins next to campsites was a big plus for us! Activities are tons of fun! Our crew really enjoyed candy bar bingo and karaoke! All is family friendly! Campground is busy! Be prepared for the sites to be close together and golf carts galore! However it was a ton of fun to rent a golf cart and I highly recommend it, not only to ride to the beach but the glow parade is a ton of fun as well! Truly my only complaint is that cell phone signal sucks, I have Verizon and my data never worked. Pirateland does have Wifi but it rarely worked for me and barely streamed Netflix. But hey, it’s vacation right? I never had any issues making calls or sending texts! Overall great vacation, just not 5 stars because of how close the sites are together and the wifi, however I would recommend! Great family fun.

    Awesome campground

This is a fantastic campground. The staff is friendly and helpful. The grounds are very well maintained. There are activities offered including a wagon ride through a plantation. There is a pool. They offer bike rental, along with kayak/paddle boat rentals. There’s a great dog park our pups loved. We paid a little extra for a deluxe site with full hookups and a lake view. The deluxe site also had a concrete pad, brick fire pit, and a swing. It was a shady spot with big oak trees. There is a nice camp store. The location of this campground is perfect near stores, restaurants, and not far from the beach.

    Family fun time

We love going to Ocean Lakes. There's a beach, kid activities, snack bar w/ice cream and golf cart rentals reasonably priced. Been two years now with another one scheduled this summer

    Johnston Landing Campground & Cabins

Low Country Camping @ Johnston Landing

Once you successfully navigate all of the backroads past Lake Marion and directly on the shores of Lake Moultrie, you’ll eventually find a small nook in the road where you’ll discover Johnston Landing, which is set off immediately by what looks to be a small bayou playing home to likely some grizzly gators(but truth be told, I never saw any while we were there). If you are coming to these parts, be sure to bring a floating vessel of any type– fishing boat, kayak, canoe or whatever will stay afloat– but if not, no worries, the good people here at Johnston Landing have you covered as they offer a paddle boat, kayaks and a row boat for rent. Insider’s tip? One of the best hikes in all of South Carolina– the Palmetto Trial is just about 5 miles away, but is definitely worth the hike as here you’ll be able to witness first hand the sunken giant Cypress trees, amazing bird watching(Ospreys and Herons in particular). As for amenities, this well-groomed campground offers up fairly new picnic tables, all the basic hook-ups(water, electric and sewage), BBQ/ grills and fairly clean restrooms and showers. Sportsman’s Bar& Grill just down the road is about the only thing decent within close proximity, otherwise, be prepared to cook whatever you plan on dining on for each meal.

    Happy Camping!
