Several RV parks near Stoystown accommodate travel trailers and motorhomes with varying hookup options. Nature's Getaway RV Park offers electric hookups and water connections with 30-amp and 50-amp service, though sewer hookups are not available at most sites. The Blue Canoe RV Resort provides full-hookup sites with 50-amp service and is open seasonally from May to mid-October. "We got the pull through at the end of one loop so we could face the woods. The site wasn't so level, but we made it work," noted one camper at Nature's Getaway. Pioneer Lakes RV Park features additional amenities including electric, water, and sewer connections, with sites spread across hilly terrain that can create leveling challenges for larger rigs.

Across the Laurel Highlands region, RV campgrounds typically remain open from April through October, with a few offering year-round access. Friendship Village Campground & RV Park operates throughout the year and provides big-rig friendly sites with full hookups. Navigation to some parks involves narrow country roads with occasional sharp turns, particularly in mountainous areas. According to one visitor at Laurel Hill State Park, "The RV sites are REALLY not level because they are on a major slope, especially the pull-through sites." Dump stations are available at most parks, though Kooser State Park and Shawnee Lake KOA receive praise for their well-maintained sanitary facilities. Pet policies vary by location, with designated pet-friendly loops at state parks and dedicated dog exercise areas at private campgrounds including Friendship Village's large fenced dog park.

      Swallow Falls State Park Campground

Beautiful area with a waterfall hike

Lovely little campground in a beautiful forest, with a great waterfall hike walkable to the campground. I stayed in Garrett in October and it was still packed full of people, which for me was nice because I like feeling like I'm in a community of campers. But the sites were super close together, basically right now the main drag, not very private, especially without leaf cover, and a little smaller than I expected. But well kept, in more forest than I was expecting, and I enjoyed myself. The canyon trail was mobbed, but it was a stunning weekend so that's not surprising. Bathrooms in the offseason could have used a bit more attention, but they weren't too bad.

      Lake Raystown Resort and Lodge

      Enormous property, but...

We spent a long weekend for walks in the woods, seeing the fall colors, and all around a huge lake.

      What We Liked:

      - Even though the sites are sloped, they’re huge. I like that a lot.

      - This property is enormous. They have a marina on the lake, a wedding facility, conference center, lots of cabins which look pretty good, and tent sites in addition to the RV sites. Go say hi to the goats behind the store. The property is amazing!

      - If you’re interested, it’s a 90-minute drive to the Flight 93 Memorial— well worth the trip!

      Things to Keep in Mind:

      - The roads getting there are like a roller coaster. This isn’t the resort’s fault, but something you need to know if you’re going there.

      - The sites are sloped. Took several blocks to get even close to level. I may be spoiled, but I really appreciate a level site.

      - No sewer connection. There’s a dump station available, but just know the sites are water and electric only.

      Would We Return?

      - Probably not. It’s not fun driving in that area and there’s nothing much to do in the area.

Crooked Run Campground — Prince Gallitzin State Park

Very large CG. I car camped at site 066 (with electric) in mid-October and CG was 3/4 empty. Nice location on Glendale Lake with a beach and boat activities (for warmer months). Showers had no hot water but facilities were nice. Very little separation between sites. Nearby hunters discharging guns into evening hours.

      Keystone State Park Campground

      Decent place

Stayed the weekend for the first time and it wasn’t bad! There were kids playing at sites nearby but that was all the noise, highway noise at all! I like how they have a spot for your tent with a picnic table and fire ring. I was in my rooftop tent on my truck so I wish the parking spot went back a little deeper for a little more privacy. But it was nice that there was bathrooms and showers within a 1 minute walk from the site! Also it says on here there is no AT&T signal, that’s not true…it’s not great but there is a bar or 2 at times!

      Savage River State Forest

      Savage River Road State Campsites

There are numerous Md. State DNR Campsites along Savage River Road.. No hookups but water may be available at Big Run State Park. These campsites are remote and very private for the most part. Some may be able to accomodate trailers and RV's for dry camping. Check MD DNR WEBSITE for more info

      Green Ridge State Forest

      Great primitive camping

Beautiful area. Very primitive, which is great. Roads were fairly decent to the campsite. Didn't stay near the water and no mountain view but still nice. Had a nice trail into the woods.

Fifteen Mile Campground — Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park

      Safe, clean, and beautiful!

The campground is a nice size with enough space between sites to feel as though you have some privacy.

We reserved site 4 online but someone had set up there when we arrived. Site 6 was open and it had a better view anyway and was farther away from the toilets, so we didn’t mind.

The boat launch is right there which we planned to paddle board in the morning, but got rained out. The river looks really nice and clean though.

Tables and fire pits are a great size. We saw some gorgeous stars as there isn’t any light pollution.

It’s only half hour from Berkeley Springs, so fill up your spring water for free there and then come enjoy the campsite!

      Will definitely return.

      Green Ridge State Forest

      Secluded Site

This was my second time staying at Greenridge in my twenty foot Dodge Ram RV van. This was a convenient first stop on my trip to Yellowstone NP. I arrived mid afternoon on a Saturday in August and there were plenty of sites available.

The sites are spaced apart and while I could see other sites were occupied as I drove to mine, I did not see or hear other people the entire length of my stay.

The dirt road leading to the site was well maintained and in good shape despite recent heavy rain.

The site was just few miles from the highway, making it easy for me to continue my journey the next morning.

    Guide to Stoystown

Several established RV parks operate within 20 miles of Stoystown, including Pittsburgh Roaring Run RV Resort with standard electric, water and sewer hookups, and Pioneer Lakes RV Park which features pull-through sites suitable for moderate-sized rigs. "We ended up on a grassy hill in the back. The spot was so unlevel there were 19 inches between my bottom step and the ground," noted one visitor at Pioneer Lakes, highlighting the importance of checking site terrain before arrival. The Blue Canoe RV Resort (formerly Uniontown KOA) offers big-rig friendly sites with 50-amp service, while Nature's Getaway RV Park provides both 30-amp and 50-amp electric options but lacks sewer hookups at individual sites.

Most RV campgrounds in this region operate seasonally from May through October, with limited year-round options. Friendship Village Campground near Bedford remains open throughout winter months with full hookups and accommodates larger motorhomes. During peak summer weekends and fall foliage season, advance reservations are strongly recommended. Sanitary dump stations are available at most parks except Pittsburgh Roaring Run, where RVers must have onboard tanks or seek alternatives. Road access to several parks involves navigating country roads with occasional steep grades and tight turns, particularly challenging for longer rigs. Pet policies vary across facilities, with most allowing dogs but enforcing leash requirements and designated exercise areas.
