    Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

    Silver Springs Campground

Great for the price and location

Stayed here to be close to the NP and it is a great little campground for a reasonable price. Big dog park with pond on the other side of the park. Sites are uneven but my favorite part was the wooded path.

    Nice campground near Cuyahoga

We were in the area exploring Cuyahoga Nat Park and found Silver Springs. It was 18$ for a site with electric hook ups (15$ if you are a Stow resident) No option for no paying less for no hook-up camping. Water close by and port a pottie style bathrooms close to the camp sites. There are flush toilets a walk away but we didn’t use them. Sites are big and grassy but not super level. Wasn’t a big issue for us but could be for a bigger camper. The campground was calm and quiet. Lots of trails close by. Dog park down the street as well as a play ground and fishing pond! We had a great few days staying here and will be back if we are even passing thru Stow again.

    Silver Springs Campground

    Lots of options!

We really loved this little spot! It appealed to all of what we were looking for, our camp host was awesome. There was even a dog park within walking distance- a lot of trails to explore too. No showers and the Porto potties weren't the cleanest... But they were functional. Very hospitable locals- we were invited to a square dancing party that evening in the park! Very comfy and safe.

    Silver Springs Campground

    Great parking

The bathrooms are portojons and there are no showers, however there is THE best dog park I have ever seen in this area. So my dogs loved this campground more than me and that was worth it. It was dark enough to see a space station cross the sky at night. The camping spaces are rather close, but so many people want to camp there, because of its proximity to everything amazing.

Guide to Elyria

Situated within Lorain County, Ohio, Elyria sits between Lake Erie and the rolling hills of northern Ohio with an average elevation of 715 feet. The area experiences all four seasons distinctly, with moderate summers that average 70-85°F and winters that can drop below freezing. Camping options near Elyria range from state parks with trails and lakes to privately owned campgrounds that offer year-round accommodations.

What to do

Hiking trails at Findley State Park: The park features over 16 miles of wooded paths for hiking and mountain biking. "Findley state park is well maintained large park! We can easily get lost on 3 mile hikes in the woods and still be on marked paths! The roads are paved and excellent for biking and skating," notes Kimberly C. from Findley State Park Campground.

Water activities on the lake: Many campgrounds offer water recreation on private lakes or nearby reservoirs. "We loved the beach and the fun we have had this is our favorite place to camp and we love this family local owned business because they love making people happy and it shows," says a visitor to American Wilderness Campground.

Arcade gaming and gem mining: Several family-oriented campgrounds provide indoor entertainment options. "We love the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining we also liked the access to self serve laundry and camp store as well," mentions Jessica J. about her stay at American Wilderness.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers frequently mention the cleanliness of bathrooms and shower facilities as a highlight. "The shower house was good for what it is. You can walk into the service plaza which has vending, showers, laundry. The sites are very wide, with 30/50 amp service," reports a camper about Service Plaza - Middle Ridge Overnight Parking.

Spacious sites: Many reviewers appreciate the ample space between campsites. "We stayed at Timber Ridge for a month and found this to be a very nice campground. Stores are very level, full hookups, fishing pond, amazing indoor swimming pool. Staff was extremely nice," writes a reviewer of Timber Ridge Campgrounds.

Weekend activities: Organized events often enhance the camping experience. "Stay here for the holiday weekend, they offer plenty of activities for everyone. Had a band each night! Bad Juju was definitely a favorite of mine," shares a camper at Willow Lake Park Inc.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Popular campgrounds fill up quickly during peak season. "Very nice, comfortable campground, kids loved it. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance," advises Jeffrey L. about Findley State Park.

Water quality varies: Some campgrounds have issues with water quality or odor. "I'm not sure what's up with the water, but it smells like metal and you're probably better off bringing your own drinking water," warns a camper at Willow Lake Park.

Seasonal camper presence: Many campgrounds near Elyria have a high percentage of seasonal or permanent residents. "The majority of the campground is full time residents with DIY add ons that are falling apart," notes one reviewer, while another mentions, "90% of the place is filled with seasonally permanent campers."

Tips for camping with families

Swimming options: Look for campgrounds with dedicated swimming areas. "The beach was clean and nice," reports Jacob B. about American Wilderness Campground, while another mentions, "Canoes and kayaks are available for renting" at Findley State Park.

Playground access: Check for kid-friendly amenities before booking. "The playground was good for the kids. The grounds are well maintained," notes a camper, highlighting the importance of entertainment options for younger visitors.

Site selection research: Not all sites are created equal at the same campground. "I would recommend doing some research on campsites as they range from small to large for the same price. The original site I booked was a tent site too small for 2 tents however I was able to switch to another sight which was larger," advises Crystal A. about her experience at Findley State Park.

Tips from RVers

Ohio Turnpike service plazas: For convenient overnight stops, consider the turnpike service areas. "Pulled in to the RV parking area around 9:45 pm, there was one other vehicle there. 3 more came and parked before midnight. Felt completely safe and not crowded by the campers on either side," reports Gayle N. about her stay at Vermilion Valley Ohio Turnpike RV Lot.

Dog friendly campgrounds near Elyria: Most campgrounds welcome pets but have specific rules. "Sufficient area to exercise pets," notes Kat I. about Middle Ridge/Vermilion Valley Rest Area, making it one of several pet-friendly camping options near Elyria. Sites typically require pets to be leashed and owners to clean up after them.

Site leveling: RV owners appreciate level sites for easier setup. "Hit up the ATM prior to arriving, as this park is cash/check only. It's gorgeous with super large sites. Plenty of space," advises Sarah A. about Timber Ridge Campgrounds, adding that the "staff couldn't be nicer" at this pet-accommodating campground.
