    Roundup Lake RV Resort

Great Lively Place with lots of Amenities

Starting off, everyone from the employees to the other campers were super friendly! My boyfriend and I rented The Park Model Cabin which was sort of a half trailer with a full bathroom and full kitchen. The bed was the only detractor of our trip, as it was mostly springs. We brought our air mattress in for the second night and slept much better. The themed weekends throughout the season are fun and festive and there are a lot of activities to do and participate!

    Camp Sandusky

    Very nice campgrounds!

There is so much structure and order to this campground! The grounds are laid out so nicely! One big circle with cross roads all along the way. You can camp however you'd like too! They have RV sites, tent sites and cabins. All mixed in together so you can travel with all your favorite campers. They do breakfast every morning in the front pavilion for $4.50 (all you can eat pancakes, 1 sausage and coffee) I haven't tried it yet, but its certainly popular. Laundry is open 24 hours a day and in an open area. Not the biggest fan of that due to needing to do laundry in the rain. Bathrooms are clean and standard. Row of toilet stalls and showers in a separate room. They have a stellar playground area, I don't have kids but even I was drawn to wanting to play on it. Very pet friendly around here. Close to downtown, near Cedar Point and all the other attractions over here. They have 2 pools, one being heated. We haven't had a bad rain storm while we're here but you can tell by the ground of our spot its going to be bad and super muddy. All in all this campground is pretty awesome.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Kelleys Island State Park Campground

    Vacation island campground

To reach Kelley's Island, you have to take the only ferry. Our round trip roundtrip fare for 3 adults and a vehicle was a around $100. It's around 25 mins across to the island. The island has about 500 full time residents. The road that runs up the center of the island, Division Street, starts a little west of the ferry stop and ends at the State Park. There are some small shops, restaurants, miniature golf, ice cream and fudge shops. There are golf cart rentals and lots of bikers and walkers on the island. You could walk the

The state park was beautiful. Filled with boaters, families and RVers. The bathrooms were clean, the park sold firewood and ice. There was an ice cream shop across from the entrance. Our tent spot was level. Quiet hours started at 11 pm. Unfortunately, people ignored it. I kept hoping the camp host would walk around and say something. Someone's car alarm went off at 5 am and the dogs got up and our day started. I would recommend watching the sunrise from the park benches at the water's edge. It was beautiful.

There were places to put your kayaks in as well as a boat launch by the park. People were fishing off the jetting that protects the swimming area.

It will get chilly at night, the sites on the edge of the water were windier. And bring your bug spray. Beautiful island, fun brewery on the island, sites are crowded. I would easily head back.

    Kelleys Island State Park Campground

    Spoiled Diamond in the Rough

I have been coming up to Kelleys Island for 39yrs and this year really tested my happiness. The campground has gone through quite a bit of changes over the last couple years and it's not entirely for the better. We stayed on the water front site directly next to the trail for the public beach. I do not recommend this site unless you want everyone to walk through the site at any time all day long. People do not respect quiet hours and leave their porch lights on in the cabins that now sit on the water front. There used to be VIPs that cleaned the park everyday and maintained everything. Not anymore and the park seems a little less friendly now. Golf carts are or were prohibited from entering the campground but now drive around the park all day long creating quite the ruckus and disturbing the beauty of nature. The bathrooms did get an upgrade of fixtures and super bright LED lights, but they took out the ADA accessible showers that had detachable shower heads and a bench to sit on in the shower. This beautiful well kept secret feels a lot like it's sister island Put-in-Bay now with all the rules stripped no care for the environment with partying all day. We did however have beautiful weather the entire time we were there. The site was clean but we noticed a lot of trees had been lost over the years and our camper sat in full sun all day long. They have replanted a tree that will cover the parking pad with shade in probably 10 years. The stairs to get to the public beach we decaying railroad ties that need some TLC but work. The dumpstation has moved to back of the campground by the old pet section which is nice and keeps the noise away from the rest of the park. They also stripped the Ranger program and no longer offer education hikes, movie nights, island history hikes, or the nature program. These were all favorites of mine as a child and made me appreciate the island more.

Guide to Elyria

Cabin rentals near Elyria, Ohio are situated in the generally flat terrain of northern Ohio, with an elevation around 720 feet above sea level. The region experiences four distinct seasons with warm summers averaging 80°F and winter temperatures often below freezing. Most camping cabins can be booked from April through October, though some locations like American Wilderness Campground remain open year-round.

What to do

Hiking on maintained trails: At Findley State Park Campground, trails accommodate hikers of varying abilities. "Findley state park is well maintained large park! We can easily get lost on 3 mile hikes in the woods and still be on marked paths!" notes Kimberly C. The park features both wooded pathways and paved routes for multiple activities.

Water activities on Lake Erie: Kelleys Island State Park Campground offers lake-based recreation requiring a 20-minute ferry ride to access. A camper reports, "The island has space to launch kayaks a boat dock. Plenty of hiking bring your bike to see the whole thing via peddle power. There is a brewery and winery."

Fishing opportunities: Several cabin locations provide fishing access. A visitor at Maple Lakes Campground commented, "Sunsets over the lakes are beautiful. Nice public restrooms. Dogs are allowed for no additional fee. Great pool and activities." The multiple lakes on property create various fishing environments.

What campers like

Clean, spacious facilities: Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point maintains high standards for their cabin accommodations. One camper noted, "Very clean campground, kids loved it. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time." Cleanliness consistently rates as a top feature.

Proximity to attractions: Many cabin rentals near Elyria serve as convenient bases for regional attractions. "This is our favorite local campground. It is close to the city and the park has nice trails and many things to do. The campground is very well maintained and the most of the sites are spacious," said a visitor to Findley State Park.

Recreational options: American Wilderness Campground offers extensive on-site activities beyond basic accommodations. One family shared, "We loved the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining we also liked the access to self serve laundry and camp store as well."

What you should know

Reservation timing: Advance planning is essential, especially for summer weekends. A Findley State Park guest advises, "If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance."

Site variations: Cabins vary significantly in size and amenities between and within parks. At Timber Ridge Campgrounds, a camper observed, "Sites are very level, full hookups, fishing pond, amazing indoor swimming pool. Staff was extremely nice. Many of the campers are long term but have several overnight doors as well."

Payment requirements: Some facilities have specific payment policies. "Hit up the ATM prior to arriving, as this park is cash / check only. It's gorgeous with super large sites," advised a visitor to Timber Ridge Campgrounds.

Accessibility considerations: Not all cabin locations are equally accessible. Kelleys Island State Park requires ferry transportation. "You have to take a ferry to the camp ground. Kelleys Island Ferry in Marblehead. It is a few miles to camp ground so if you are renting and don't bring a vehicle you will want to rent a golf cart," explained a camper.

Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated children's activities: Cleveland/Sandusky Jellystone Park specializes in family-focused accommodations. A parent shared, "Large campground with a nice mix of seasonal and overnighters. Clean common areas. Nice pool, camp store on site with a nice selection of camp gear. Snack bar with pizza, ice cream etc. Tons of planned activities for the kids."

Consider cabin location relative to amenities: When booking cabins with children, proximity to bathhouses and play areas matters. "The sites vary in size, lots of shade trees where we camped. There are picnic tables and fire rings, some sites have FHUs, some standard electric, and of course, primitive," noted a camper at East Harbor State Park.

Check for seasonal events: Many cabin locations schedule special weekend activities. American Wilderness Campground received this feedback: "On holiday weekends they have live music that was really good. I will definitely go again."

Tips from RVers

Site dimensions matter: For those combining RV and cabin camping, check site specifications. A visitor to Maple Lakes noted, "This is a big campground where you are not on top of your neighbors. There is a lot offered and great place for kids."

Hookup variations: Different cabin areas often provide varying levels of utility connections. At Lighthouse Point, an RVer observed, "Full hookups were simple to use. The pool area was super clean. One of the things I liked best was there was a garbage can on every site!"

Off-season opportunities: Several camping cabins near Elyria remain open during shoulder seasons with fewer crowds. "We stayed at Timber Ridge for a month and found this to be a very nice campground. Stores are very level, full hookups, fishing pond, amazing indoor swimming pool," reported a long-term visitor.
