    East Harbor State Park Campground

Spacious campground with nice beach on Lake Erie

Ohio’s largest state park. Can accommodate big rigs. Most sites are electric, a few with full hookups. Many pull through sites. Very scenic

    Gotta Getaway RV Park

    Ok

This was an overnight stay on our way to Pennsylvania. It would be a bonus for big rigs as the pull Throughs are flat and easy to get into. We tend to prefer a back in because it usually gives us a bit more protection on the backside. Unfortunately, the site we were assigned took three blocks to level up, the the power was on the wrong side and our picnic table was in the back area of another camper. The bathroom was nice and close and handy. Some great effort has been made to make it attractive with two-tone tile but that is all overshadowed by the amount of spiders and bugs. I am a full-time RV year and shower all over the United States and this was one of the buggiest ever. The majority of this campground is for seasonals. There are some very nice seasonal lots with a small pond in their back Yard. The owner was very friendly and helpful on the phone. Serves a variety of needs.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Timber Ridge Campgrounds

    Great Experience

We stayed at Timber Ridge for a month and found this to be a very nice campground. Stores are very level, full hookups, fishing pond, amazing indoor swimming pool. Staff was extremely nice. Many if the campers are long term but have several overnight doors as well.

We stayed in a 29ft Travel Trailer, but sites could handle the largest of rigs.

    Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    East harbor state park

Very clean. Close to everything you need close to ferry clean showers camp monitors were friendly sites are paved. 50/30 amp hookups Our site was just a standard electric site. They do have 150 full hook up sites or more. We made our reservations late we were not really concerned about water or sewer as we planned to use the camp ground facilities anyway. Fresh water is available to fill your holding tanks. Dump stations are easily acceptable as are water filling stations Big Boopers restaurant is a great place for breakfast lunch or dinner. If you do t feel like cooking it’s about a 10 min drive. Campground has very good WiFi. We have Verizon had very good reception inland and I. The islands. Bass island is a fun day trip. Sites were level left to right. Had a slight pitch front to back.

Crystal Rock Campground - Sandusky, OH

    Clean & cute

This campground was family friendly, dog friendly, and very clean. About 30 minutes from cedar point. Our only complaint and the reason we’re docking a star is because our site was right next to a giant generator that seems to run 24/7 and sites seemed a little tight. Otherwise we enjoyed this campground very much.

    Great stop for one night

Great campground on the smaller side, so not too much traffic driving around. Our site was gravel and fairly unlevel. Did our best to level it out but still have water collecting to the left. We lucked out and got a pull through last minute.

Water pressure was low. ATT cell coverage was full. Lots of shade so couldn’t use our Starlink internet but the campground internet was great. Even had video camera meetings on it while working in the morning.

Worth noting we were having some rig problems (slide out stuck in) and after calling four local places not one of them returned our calls. Only stayed the one night because we need to move on to get this fixed.

    Punderson State Park Campground

    Excellent Park & Campground!

We have just returned from our first stay at Punderson and have no complaints! Sites are smallish, but clean, mostly level and well kept, as is the camping area in general. There are NO pull-through sites I am aware of. Had a picnic with nearby family at one of the pavilions… again, neat and clean and well taken care of. Very quiet at night, which is something we look for. Firewood for sale on site was a bit pricey, but that’s to be expected. Only complaint was lack of strong WIFI, but we have our own uplink. Will definitely return!

Guide to Elyria

Camping options near Elyria, Ohio center around the southern shores of Lake Erie, with most locations within 15-30 miles of the city. The region features glacially formed flat terrain at approximately 715 feet elevation, with moderate summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F. Winter camping opportunities are limited as the Lake Erie shore typically receives over 60 inches of annual snowfall between November and March.

What to do

Beach access and swimming: At Findley State Park Campground, visitors can enjoy the lake with rental options. "Canoes and kayaks are available for renting. Many musicians set up camp and would jam out for some live evening music! Everyone was so nice at the campground," notes Kimberly C.

Hiking trails: The Wellington area offers extensive woodland paths. "Findley state park is well maintained large park! We can easily get lost on 3 mile hikes in the woods and still be on marked paths! The roads are paved and excellent for biking and skating," shares Kimberly C.

Amusement park access: Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point provides direct entry to the famous roller coaster park. "Perfect for our visit to Cedar Point. We got there late at 9:00 pm and didn't have to check out until 8:00 pm the next day so our RV stayed plugged in all day. The campground stay also included early entry passes into the park at 8:45 AM before the opening for regular entry at 10:00 am," writes Elise A.

What campers like

Level concrete pads: Many RV sites near Elyria, Ohio feature modern camping surfaces. "Concrete pads. Level! Full hookups were simple to use. The pool area was super clean. One of the things I liked best was there was a garbage can on every site!" Chuck E. appreciates at Lighthouse Point.

Privacy options: Despite proximity to neighbors, Cedarlane RV Resort offers some separation. "The sites are not huge and a little close together but very nice and well maintained. We visited east harbor state park while there and the beach was weird, there's a rock wall bordering the lake so you have to either climb down the low wall or walk to the designated opening in the wall," reports Ashley R.

Family amenities: Splash pads and kid activities rank highly among campers. "This campground has a little bit of everything. Rv parking, tent sites and several cabins to rent. They have a great splash pad and wading pool for kids. There is a new Tiki Hut to get adult drinks. A gem mine. Horseshoes, basketball court and lots of kids activities," Jeffrey C. shares about Cedarlane.

What you should know

Site selection matters: At Fort Firelands RV Park, location impacts experience. "We had the best lot in the place! We were on the end (which is always a plus for us), and were able to see Lake Erie! Very Quiet, but not much really goes on when it is raining. They only had 50w outlets, but will lend you a converter for $15.00, which is refundable upon leaving," Lisa K. advises.

Wildlife considerations: Natural areas mean animal encounters. "This is a quiet campground near Lake Erie. The campground seems like it's mainly seasonal but they did have some transient camping and tent sites. There was a large flock of geese that stayed near the lagoon which meant goose poop around our site. It was also very buggy in the evenings," warns Renee L.

Tent stake challenges: Ground conditions vary at regional campgrounds. "Dirt in the campsites is packed super tight, it's hard to drive tent stakes. However, it's flat enough where it isn't really an issue," Evan D. mentions about Findley State Park.

Tips for camping with families

Pool and water features: Sandusky Milan RV Park offers refreshing options for kids. "This campground has been wonderfully updated! The owners have added in an additional playground, dog park, newly paved roadways, newly redone building, a new pavilion, fire pit, and boat parking! We love camping here every chance we get!" notes April J.

Multiple activity options: Locations with varied recreation keep children entertained. "Clean, with electric hookup for $20. Dump station as you exit. Gas and convenience items are extra helpful. Safe environment to snooze overnight," Susan B. shares about Vermilion Valley Ohio Turnpike RV Lot.

Book early for holidays: Popular camping weekends fill quickly. "Very nice, comfortable campground, kids loved it. Only downfall is trying to find an open spot for reservations. Place is booked most of the time. If you're planning a holiday weekend you need to book 6 months in advance," Jeffrey L. recommends for Findley State Park.

Tips from RVers

Overnight rest stops: Budget-conscious travelers have options between RV parks. "Pulled in around midnight on a Wednesday and there were just two other vans parked overnight. Plenty of space if you just need to crash. I believe there is a drop box for cash payment but I could not find it in the dark," notes Frank G. about Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds.

Pull-through site benefits: Some campgrounds near Elyria specifically accommodate larger RVs. "This campground is right off of interstate 80, and a very easy stop! Clean bathrooms/showers, mostly level sites, full hook ups available, tent area available, nice pool and play area. Sites are good size in length, but pretty close to your neighbor," Tracey S. describes at Sandusky Milan RV Park.

Dump station logistics: Timing and locations for waste disposal vary. "Pulled in to the RV parking area around 9:45 pm, there was one other vehicle there. 3 more came and parked before midnight. Felt completely safe and not crowded by the campers on either side. The actual service station across the way was incredibly clean and comfortable. 3 or 4 restaurants, Starbucks, maps and guidebooks available. Best $20 nights sleep I ever got," shares Gayle N. about Vermilion Valley.
