    Smoky Mountain Meadows Campground

    Nice spot

Tent camped here in April while mountain biking at Tsali. Campground at Tsali had not opened and this was a great plan B. Camped along the creek, all the spots had a fire pit and table. Bath house was clean and in good shape. There is also a separate section with RV hook ups and small cabins / huts for rent. Helpful and friendly host, also have a good selection of basic sundries in the office. And free WiFi near the office. Would stay here again for sure.

    Honeysuckle Meadows

An affordable RV park/campground near the Smokies

    The Pros:

    • Location: This campground is located in a perfect spot, in my opinion. 10 minutes from the Metcalf Bottom entrance to Smoky Mtn NP. 15 minutes to the Townsend entrance. 30 minutes to Cades Cove. 15 minutes to Pigeon Forge. And 30 minutes to Gatlinburg. Close, but away from the madness. For a few shops and restaurants you have Wears Valley right next door (I recommend Mountain Chick for a light breakfast - awesome biscuits and coffee).
    • Amenities: full hook-ups and a VERY nice pool/deli (see picture). The pool has karaoke on Friday nights. There is also a stocked fishing pond with dock though we didn't use it.
    • The view: Okay, not all campsites have great views. But the lower sites do, and that's where we were. Awesome backdrop of the mountains while you sit by your campfire.
    • The price: All the other campgrounds this close to the park charge $50+. Honeysuckle charges $35 a night.
    • The sites: Sites are typically long, wide, gravel, mostly level, and with plenty of space in between. Our site even had a brand new deck with solar LED lights! Every site has a metal fire pit and a plastic-topped picnic table.

    The Cons:

    •  This is a mix of long-term RV park and campground. The lower sites are mostly campers while the upper sites are a mix of campers and long-term lots. This isn't necessarily bad. Most of the long-term units are nice looking, but it does impact the camping feel a bit. And along the lead-in from the road to the sites there are a lot of campers in storage. Some of these don't look so nice.

    • Dumpster: This is bear country so you can't leave your trash outside in cans. The only dumpster is all the way down the road to the office, and it is frequently full.

    • Reservations: The process of making reservations was easy enough. I was assigned a site in the confirmation email I received. But when we arrived I was given a different site. When I asked about it, they didn't have record of the first site I was given. When I drove by that site, there was an RV in it that looked like it was being stored there. We went to site 50, the one they gave us, and it was okay. The one just down the hill, Site 49, was a little shorter but it had a deck. We called the office and asked to switch. They agreed. It worked out, but it was a little frustrating.

    • Amenities: Because it is more RV park than a campground, there wasn't a bathroom or laundry facility.

Overall, we were quite happy with the experience. We would stay here again and recommend it to others.

    Glamping in Pigeon Forge

This is not exactly the camping in the woods without hookups atmosphere. This is more of a every want/need met glamping RV Resort. And it’s awesome!

The RV sites are large and level, full hookup. There are gorgeous cabins that look more like tiny homes, and the atmosphere at this park is a great way to retreat. 100 ft max for RVs.

Very kid friendly, pet friendly (Kamp K9), lots in the area to go do and see. Pools, hot tub, kitchen, firewood for sale, fishing access, snack bar, cable tv, and WiFi.

The staff here is awesome, very helpful and knowledgeable. The park is very clean and well kept.

Cellular service for TMobile was not very strong but AT&T provided plenty for streaming and working.

    Cullasaja River Campground

RV site in a fun area

First off this is really just a campground for RVs and you wouldn’t want to drive in and stay in a tent here. However, for that purpose it is a nice site and located in a great area. Right along the Cullasaja rive you have easy access to swimming and boating or you can drive a mile or two up the road and get to some amazing swimming holes with cliff jumping and natural water slides. The area is really beautiful year round though best in the summer when you can cool off from the hot days by getting in the water. The campground itself has many of the amenities you would want while RV camping such as full hook up and picnic benches for hanging out at. They also promote a family friendly environment that seemed to be very welcoming. Overall, their location right along the river and only a few minutes downstream of the amazing swimming makes this a place well worth checking out.

    Sweetwater KOA

    Awesome Holiday Campground

This is a very lively, well traveled RV Park and Campground. Sweetwater is a Holiday KOA meaning it’s has more amenities than their Journey parks (meant for traveling through).

The park has quite a few large sites for big rigs that are about 80-100ft long. The maximum rig size is 60ft. Some sites are paved, most are gravel. There are two sites that are very long with amazing decks.

The park offers full hook up RV Sites, Cabins, Tent sites. For amenities there is a bouncy blob (dry), small pond with fountain and memorial bench, large playground for the kids, volleyball, basketball, I’m not sure what the game is next to the blob. They have two dog parks, one for tiny pups and one for larger pups. There is a nice pavillion near the pond with a large fire pit. They have trash bins distributed throughout the park making trash disposal convenient.

This park goes all out for the holidays. We are a month out from Halloween and they have done a spectacular job with decorating. They have lots of kids events. On Saturday there is a train that takes kids and adults on a ride around the park.

Everyone who works here has been super friendly and helpful. They really seem to go above and beyond making sure everyone has a great stay.

Cellular signals for AT&T and TMobile we’re both pretty good. We were able to stream and work. There were a couple of brief moments that getting signal was a challenge, but overall it was easy to work.

    Foxfire of Murphy RV Park

Great location, beautiful views, and super nice park!

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Foxfire of Murphy RV Park for our second visit, and it continues to exceed all expectations. The breathtaking views, serene atmosphere, and the pride the owners take in maintaining this gem make it a standout choice. Conveniently located in Murphy, NC, it's also close to TN and GA. The spacious full hookup sites provided plenty of room for our travel trailer plus two vehicles, and the reliable WiFi ensures you stay connected. The dedicated dog area and well-kept walking trails make it a haven for both two and four-legged guests. Impeccably clean bathrooms and laundry facilities add to the overall comfort. Foxfire of Murphy RV Park is a true haven for RV enthusiasts seeking a peaceful and charming getaway. We will definitely be back and have already referred several of our friends too!

    Cherokee-Great Smokies KOA

RV resort meets established tent camping

Chosen by the in-laws for family reunion weekend. More built up/RV resort style than my preference, but a nice location nonetheless. On-site camp store and pool with splash zone. Oversize lawn games and several playgrounds for the kids. There are well stocked trout ponds on-site, and the surrounding rivers and streams are one of the largest managed private fisheries in the Eastern US. Tribal fishing license and you’re set to angle for rainbow, golden, and brown trout. Note restrictions on a defined local section for fly fishing/catch and release. One hour 20 minutes to Asheville & Biltmore Estate. Local day trips also include Mingo falls, Harrah’s casino, river tubing, Mountain Farm museum, Museum of the Cherokee Indian, Oconaluftee Indian Village, Blue Ridge Parkway, Mountains to Sea Trail, Bryson City model train museum & Great Smoky Mountains Railroad.

As others have noted, there were some communication gaps between staff members regarding events and services. During our stay they were repaving sections of the access road with some interruption to water and power. My understanding is that renovations are now complete. Three stars based on these service interruptions

Easily accessible RV pull through and back in sites with enough room to park your towed daily driver. 50/30A full hookups.

Tent sites had sand or grass pads. Mix of primitive sites and those built up with 50A hookups and water. Bear boxes and fire pits.

My brother’s family of four felt a bit cramped in the smaller cabins available on site, but there are larger options. Overall the buildings are in good repair, spread between the water and the camp store/pool area.

    Lotterdale Cove Campground

    Decent site

No sewer hook-ups and alcohol is not allowed on the grounds. Supposed to have a 14 day maximum stay but walking around you can tell there are plenty of long-term parkers. The road in is rough with potholes and the transition from blacktop to cement at the gate is a huge jarring transition. Probably a 3 inch difference. Not exactly what I want to hit on the way to my site.

    Best for my Time

Steve and Chris was there when we checked in. Steve helped my 80 year old husband unloaded our car and unhook the dolly. Chris told me about the park and what was available there and best places to eat. Steve showed me my RV spot and helped me park and level our RV. The bathrooms/ showers are neat and clean and have a security code to enter to use. The RV park is easy to find and is well kept and clean. Trash is picked up at each spot daily. There is a doggy park, swimming pool and hot tub. Denise and Barb also work there too and very nice. When we got to leave they helped us to hook up. We will be back because we really enjoyed it.

    Convenient location

Tucked away in quiet town of Townsend TN on Hwy 73, the campground has tent sites and RV hookups. There are toilets and a shower for each restroom. The restrooms were clean and plenty of hot water. It is just off the main hwy and there is plenty of traffic noises, but that dies down at night and you wake up to the birds chirping and the sound of the nearby stream. Staff is friendly. It was just far enough out wears valley to be away from the crowd. Sites were newly graded and many have been poured in concrete. But ours was gravel and the gravel was fresh so camper settled a little but wasn't an issue. We love the camp ground.

We stayed one night a very busy campground all sites were full. It is an older campground and is in need of updating. Campground hosts were helpful. Nice view of the lake . Many long term residents.

    Ralph J. Andrews Campground

    Family friendly lakeside camping

I have camped across the US in tents, camper, or just the back of my truck. I have been a campground host at Ralph Andrews Park for several years. This is one of the best campgrounds that I have ever stayed in. It is small, only 38 campsites. It has a few full RV hookups, 10 or so el/water sites&12 or so primitive. Campground is located on Glenville Lake (aka Thorpe Reservior) which is the highest elevation lake east of the Rocky Mts. The Lake is a TVA lake built in 1941 and is 4 miles long The gates are locked from 10pm until 8am which reduces any drive-through traffic and increases safety. The staff are helpful and friendly and the campground is well maintained. Reservation for coming season (2019) now open

    Grumpy Bear Campground

Lovely waterfront location - very friendly owners

I stayed here a few years ago for an overnight (without my trailer, I slept in the truck cab), and the owners were very friendly despite that fact that I arrived after dark and really early in the season.  The bathrooms are very nice, and the river views are very nice, too.  All sites are full hook-up, I think, and pet friendly.  Not a big park, but I'll happily stay again when in the Smoky Mountains.

    Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg KOA Campground

    Great Location

What can I say, it's a KOA. You either love them or hate them. This one we really enjoy. lots to do for the kids, even kid movies at night. We visit Dollywood every October and the trolley picks you up right up front of the KOA for .50 cents one way. We only reserve the premium sites. The regular sites are very close together. Very Friendly staff. Full Hook-ups and Cable.
