Sea Pirate Campground's pet-friendly policy allows campers to bring their dogs while enjoying full hookup sites with 50-amp service, water, and sewer connections. The campground offers pull-through RV sites, tent camping areas, and pet-friendly cabin accommodations on spacious wooded lots. Baker's Acres Campground and Atlantic Shore Pines also welcome pets with designated areas for exercise. Most campgrounds in the Manahawkin area require pets to be leashed at all times, with leashes typically limited to 6 feet. Campgrounds provide trash receptacles for pet waste disposal and many feature dedicated dog walk areas or pet parks. Dogs must have proof of current vaccinations, and many campgrounds limit pets to two per site. Sandy, level sites at most locations accommodate tents, RVs, and cabins where pets can stay with their owners. Some sites remain extremely sandy which creates cleanliness challenges when camping with pets.
Hiking trails in Wharton State Forest and Brendan Byrne State Forest offer pet-friendly outdoor recreation within 30 minutes of Manahawkin campgrounds. Most campers recommend early morning or evening walks to avoid summer heat that can be hard on pets, particularly on sandy trails. Water access points at Bass River State Forest allow supervised dogs to cool off. Local veterinary clinics operate in Manahawkin and Tuckerton for emergency services, with most within 15 minutes of popular campgrounds. Pet supplies can be purchased at nearby stores including Walmart and several pet specialty shops. Wildlife encounters require keeping pets properly secured, especially during evening hours. Long Beach Island beaches have specific seasonal regulations regarding pets, with some areas allowing leashed dogs during morning and evening hours in summer months. The constant presence of mosquitoes and flies at some campgrounds can make outdoor time with pets challenging.
"We stayed at Baker’s Acres Campground in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, for a weekend in mid-August. So did the rains of Hurricane Henri! "
"We scored a site next to the playground that features a huge monkey bar set up, a ship, and a playhouse complete with kitchen. Not to mention swings and bouncers too."

"The newest addition of extra pet friendly sites have made it even better because we can bring the pup. The sites are a great size and many are set back enough that you have privacy."
"We have never camped here before, but wanted to hike the Batona trail nearby."
"We stayed at Sea Pirate Campground in West Creek, New Jersey, for a week in mid-August We’re so glad we did! "
"They have a great store and eatery near the pool. Purchases can be easily made using their wristbands(provided at check-in). No need to carry cash or credit cards around the campground. "
"Very family friends and pet friendly. Mostly quiet. There is NO Wi-Fi. Plenty of trails and things to do. Only downside was our site 252 had a giant spotlight on our site from dusk and until dawn."
"The campground is very close to home, and a lot of people around our area (central jersey) go there yearly or have seasonal sites there, but for us, it was our first time at the campground."
"Allows dogs after a deposit. Must purchase their firewood. Good bathrooms/showers. Great location for hitting the 4x4 trails."
"Campsite decent size, but some don't have clear boundaries to neighbors, and sometimes not optimally configured (e.g., the site next door's fire pit was placed on the edge of its site/right next to my"

"This place is very close to Bass River State Park with lots of hiking and outdoor activities. Restaurants and stores in Tuckerton are just a few minutes away."

"I try to stay away from campgrounds with electrical hookups, because the sound of generators is not exactly the serenity of nature I'm looking for."
"Can bring dogs and reserve online. Can't wait to come back for a longer stay."
"Limited store supply selection but Wawa is a 15 minute drive and Walmart is roughly the same so that’s good enough for me. Pool is well taken care of and the lake is nice."

"Atsion Family Campground Off US 206 and about 1/2 a mile up Atsion Road in New Jersey’s Wharton State Forest, you’ll find the Atsion Family Campground."
"This was a nice large site in the“pet-friendly” section(sites 26-34) of the campground. Site 34 is close to Atsion Road, so there was car noise, but it wasn’t really an issue to us."

Water/power at the campsite, and and centrally located dump station. Lots of trees and nice separation of sites
We stayed at the group site campground with our horse. We found the sites to be large, and clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and they have fall activities for the family, at the lake and nature hikes. The porta potty's are very clean, have hand sanitizer and plenty of paper. Will be returning again in a few weeks. Plenty of trails to ride on. A true gem in our own backyard.
Located just off US Route 1 in the upscale Princeton area, this spacious Lowe's serves up a surprisingly pleasant patch of pavement for weary road warriors looking to catch some shut-eye. Set back roughly 80 yards from the highway, this big blue home improvement retailer offers a generously sized parking lot with relatively manageable traffic, good maneuverability and a quieter atmosphere than you might expect from such a busy suburban retail corridor. The western and southern edges of the lot are particularly appealing for an overnight stay, and with Trader Joe's, Starbucks and several other retailers nearby, convenience certainly isn't in short supply. Better yet, the store management was friendly and accommodating when we called ahead to arrange our overnight visit.
HIGHLIGHTS: (1) Spacious, paved parking lot with plenty of room to maneuver larger rigs; (2) Convenient access to US Route 1 and nearby I-95; (3) Western and southern parking areas offer quieter spots away from the busiest customer traffic; (4) Excellent nearby conveniences, including Trader Joe's, Starbucks and several dining options; and (5) Friendly store management that welcomed our overnight stay, plus surprisingly good opportunities for outdoor recreation nearby.
LOWLIGHTS: (1) Some daytime retail traffic and occasional road noise, although nothing terribly disruptive; (2) No RV hookups, dump station or dedicated overnight camping facilities; (3) Parking areas closest to the store can become crowded during business hours; (4) Limited greenery and little of the scenery you'd expect from a traditional campground; and (5) While the overnight experience was excellent, this is still a commercial parking lot rather than a destination for an extended stay.
Happy Overnighting!
Many long term seasonal sites. Good community. Large shower house good and clean . Pool. Game room. Off leash dog park. Wooded/shady sites or no shade sunny sites. Lots of area to walk or play. Large field, basketball couture, frisky golf, play area and laundry room. We were here all summer (June-october). Lots to do in the area. Good food nearby. Ocean city 10 minutes away.
This is one of the largest, if not the largest, campgrounds in Southern New Jersey. While on the pricier side, everything is top-notch. The roads are all paved, and not gravel (I hate trying to sleep and listening to the sound of stones grating together). The sites are more spacious than most campgrounds, so it doesn't seem so crowded. The bathrooms are all modern and spotless. There are numerous bathrooms which means most sites have one nearby. They do charge a quarter for showers to encourage water conservation and donate the money to conservation causes. The pool is large, as is the lake. Both are well-maintained. The camp store is enormous and is really nice and well-stocked with everything one might need from food to pool and beach stuff to camping supplies and equipment. There is a nice cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. The camp store has a lending library of books and DVDs. There are numerous activities that appear to be well-run, The grounds are shaded with many trees for a great wooded campground feel. The campground is so large that it has an internal shuttle with stations scattered about to help people go between the various important sites such as at the pool, the lake and the store. I found other campers, particularly the seasonals, to be more friendly than other campgrounds at the shore. This requires constant tree care including removing dead trees and branches which they do regularly. The staff is friendly and well-trained. I was in a tent, and when a rare October nor'easter came through, I was offered the opportunity to use a cabin free-of-charge. Fortunately my tent and equipment made it through days of rain and high winds just fine . On my first stay in May, I had to run my dog back to Baltimore towards the end of my trip where he was sadly diagnosed with incurable metastatic cancer. When I returned, I was late and unable to check out by 11, but they allowed me to take as much time as needed to clear the site, as nobody was staying there the next day, which was deeply appreciated - I was an emotional wreck. Oh, and I found the complimentary Wi-Fi to be a great service, and sufficiently fast to allow me to stream ultra-high-definition movies at my site - Most campgrounds charge extra for less-than-good service - a lot more. I find that a big bonus. Overall, I LOVE this campground and highly recommend it.
This campground is part of the Wharton State Forest and has several campgrounds in the area. Great wooded sites right on a lake. Pretty good separation between sites with good tree separation between sites. Some road noise not overly affecting site.
Restrooms are filthy with mold and mildew.
Water puddled on the restroom floor.really gross.
Cabin was mostly clean. The windows were full of dirt and bugs on the tracks.mattresses were terrible. The fireplace was nice. Kitchen was clean.
Can t wait to move on to a cleaner park.
My check in was for 8-6-2026, and bc I’m a new driver and wanted to beat traffic I got there early (7am) so I sit there waiting till check in time. When suddenly the park police show up. He’s accusing me of camping over night there. I told him simply I wasn’t and where I was night prior (would never sleep somewhere without permission). So we go to the store to kill time before we check in. Come back for Check in and the whole staff in just the office alone were so arrogant and cold to my mom and I, leaving rude comments to us and not only where they like that but the staff outside the office was acting like that alongside the rangers and park police. They would watch us the whole visit in the distance parking there cars a little ways watching everything we did, even driving by slowly a bunch of times in just an hour alone. My mom and I couldn’t do anything with out them showing up 2 mins later. Example we were walking our dog enjoying our time(trying to) and all of a sudden one of the office ladies pulls up right in front of us speeding, parks their car, gets out and walks a distance from us standing there and taking pictures of us…. For walking our dog who’s on a leash and didn’t even do anything. The whole trip we felt uncomfortable and unwanted and to find out they police when we were going on walks where coming up to campers near us bribing them with free firewood to get any information on use (told to us by other camper). I paid a lot of money to be harassed and followed the whole time. We never did anything we abide by every rule and keep to ourselves everywhere we go. They even made my mother cry…
Beautiful campground but made the mistake of going on a holiday weekend, the campgrounds next to us were screaming and blasting music all day and throughout the night so we ended up leaving early. A beautiful campground when there aren’t noisy capers ruining it.
Sandy terrain characterizes campgrounds around Manahawkin, with elevations rarely exceeding 50 feet above sea level. The Pine Barrens ecosystem creates distinctive camping conditions with acidic soil and cedar-stained water. Most campgrounds remain open from April through October, with summer temperatures averaging 85°F and high humidity levels.
Lake activities at Bass River: Bass River State Forest offers kayak and canoe rentals at its lake. "The camp sites are a great size and many are set back enough that you have privacy. Many great memories of canoeing and fishing on the lake and is a great family-friendly campground," notes Maggie H. from Bass River State Forest.
Hiking nearby trails: Wharton State Forest trails connect directly to campsites. "The Batona Campground is in the northern area of the Wharton State Forest and is a bit removed from most trails and other campgrounds in the park. The back of the campground backs up to a beautiful creek/swamp, and the Batona trail runs through the campground," shares Brittany L. about Batona — Wharton State Forest.
Tubing opportunities: Several campsites offer river tubing during summer months. "We did have a great time tubing on the river. Have someone drop you off at Hawkins Bridge and float down to the campground. A little over 2 hour ride," explains Stacy D. from Wading Pines Camping Resort.
Wooded privacy: Many campgrounds feature sites with natural separation. "Quaint and rustic, heavily wooded. Makes you feel like your camping, not just lined up next to a bunch of campers," writes Joel N. about Baker's Acres Campground.
Clean facilities: Campers frequently mention well-maintained bathrooms. "Clean, quiet, lots of activities for both children and adults, and overall a great campground," reports James G. from Long Beach RV Resort.
Easy beach access: Several campgrounds provide convenient routes to beaches. "Very nice campground with a nice pool and good proximity to LBI. The drive time to Long Beach Island ranged between 30-40 minutes each trip we took depending on traffic," notes Matt S. from Sea Pirate Campground.
Sandy sites create challenges: The natural terrain affects camping comfort. "The sites are a little bit sandy which creates cleanliness challenges. Sites are packed sand so be prepared with a good broom because it tracks everywhere," advises Jim G. from Atlantic Shore Pines Campground.
Tick prevention essential: Wooded areas can harbor ticks, particularly in spring and early summer. "There were a lot of ticks when we stayed in May so keep that in mind. The campground was clean and well maintained," warns Gennifer K. from Bass River State Forest.
Noise levels vary: Some campgrounds experience noise from neighboring properties. "All of the spots in Wharton are great, except for the ones closest to the private Wading Pines campground on weekends. This includes Godfrey and Hawkins. Wading Pines has live music that they blast from 7 until 11-12 pm that echoes through the park," reports Jim F.
Planned activities for children: Several pet-friendly campgrounds near Manahawkin offer organized events. "Great family run and owned campground. We enjoyed the scavenger hunt and Saturday night entertainment. My husband and daughter enjoyed the pool. The playground was nice," shares Becca U. from Baker's Acres.
Look for secluded sites: Some campgrounds offer more private options for families. "If you want off the beaten path and not close to anyone... this is IT! It is so easy to get lost in these woods and I LOVE IT," recommends Alyssa D. about Brendan Byrne State Forest.
Check water amenities: Swimming options vary widely between campgrounds. "The heated swimming pool was large and the water crystal clear. The store was stocked with typical essentials like supplies, fire wood, and snacks," reports Matt S. from Sea Pirate Campground.
Site selection matters: RV campers recommend researching specific sites. "Our site was a level pull-thru with 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and cable. It was easy to pull in and can accommodate larger rigs. The hook-ups were all well-maintained and worked fine," advises Matt S. from Sea Pirate Campground.
Water pressure varies: Some campgrounds experience utility fluctuations. "We had a problem with our site: extremely low water pressure, often below 20 PSI. It was so low at times that we couldn't take showers or flush the toilet," warns a reviewer from Sea Pirate Campground.
Consider seasonal limitations: Many dog-friendly campgrounds have different access during off-seasons. "Sites are suitable for tents or small campers. The unpaved road into the site is narrow and tree lined. A larger RV would not fit," cautions Meghan G. about Batona Campground.
