North American RV Park & Yurt Village

Great location, convenient, clean and friendly!

We stayed here for 4 nights. Only 5 minutes away from West Glacier Park entrance. Close by is a zip line attraction with a blow up slide in water for the little ones and bounce house obstacle with a slide. Also an adventure park that has go karts, bumper cars, lazy river etc. Great location with so much to do outside the park. We had a corner spot which I really liked for some privacy. Each site has its own fire pit which was nice. Wi-Fi in my opinion worked great. Has a dog park and a little playground for kids. Laundry room and bath houses were very clean. Also has an arcade and loved how they use honesty policy during closed hours where you can pick up firewood or ice and pay the next morning:) I definitely recommend and will come back for another Montana adventure.

      West Glacier KOA Resort

      Beauty, nestled against the mountains

      9/13/19 West Glacier, Montana

      West Glacier KOA Resort

Most beautiful location of the KOAs I've stayed at. Nestled against the mountains and less than 3 miles to Glacier National Park.

Lots of sites to choose from. Ours was a pull thru with nice vegetation between. Fire pit with benches and picnic table. Some sites are close together with no privacy. Some have gas grills and patio furniture. There are cabins and tent sites as well. Bathhouse was average. The cafe was open for breakfast and dinner.Ice cream shop closed for the season. Amazing pool! Nice play area, dog parks. Really nice camp store, firewood available. KOA Workshop on site. RV wash and dog grooming by appointment.

North American RV Park & Yurt Village

Awesome park, great for big rigs, close to Glacier

LOVED our stay here. We got a prized corner spot with privacy of trees. So nice to have a grassy site, too. Super close to West Glacier, East Glacier is much more of a drive, but we knew that. Quiet and peaceful. Some highway noise but not terrible. Great dog park that we thoroughly enjoyed. We were sad to leave after five days!

Moose Creek RV Resort and Bed & Breakfast

      Cute quite place to relax

This place was nice. The staff was so friendly. Cafe with giant cinnamon rolls hit the spot. Showers were nice and hot. We were in the middle of tall trees which provided shade later in the day. Nice big dog park. Location is close the west Glacier entrance

      West Glacier KOA Resort

Great location for Glacier NP - family and dog friendly

Great amenities onsite. The staff was incredibly friendly and kind. The bathhouse near us was a dated design style but very clean and well stocked. Lots of families with kids onsite, I can see why with all the great amenities. During off season kids are allowed to swim in adult pool and hot tubs. Great spacious off leash dog park onsite. A second smaller K9 park onsite was still nicely maintained. It’s snug, so unless you pay for more spacious sites expect to be close to neighbors. Some of the cabin renters were loud with radios blaring but they were on the opposite side of the park so we didn’t report the noise. Plenty of supplies available at store. Some of the sites had lovely views of the mountains. The nature trail at the KOA was very muddy and some sections had such large mud holes that you couldn’t avoid getting your shoes wet. They should put some gravel or something back there. Just be prepared to get your shoes dirty if you walk it. Despite the muddiness, we found it was a lovely nightly loop to walk.

If you plan to drive going to the sun road: make sure it’s open. And be sure and get a reservation/register your vehicle for Glacier/going-to the-sun road if visiting summer 2022. Go eat at Dan d Lion cafe for a crazy savory meal. You won’t believe it’s vegan and gluten free. Insanely good. Great prices in Hungry Horse for souvenirs. West Glacier was definitely the better stay than East Glacier in our opinion. Much more easy access to stores, restaurants, etc. Whitefish MT had the coolest off leash dog park we’ve ever seen! If you have your 4-legged-bff with you - you simply must take your pup to that park (you’re welcome!) Lake McDonald is a great place to see the mountains and take beautiful pictures. You need bear spray if you go hiking anywhere here. Also, no dogs on trails, of course.

      LaSalle RV Park

      Nice RV/tent campground

Arrived late with no reservation and office closed but kind cheery owner, David found a spot for us, bending the rules a bit. Our stay was lovely, couldn’t ask for more, was mostly quiet since 41 is toward back, away from road. The bathrooms/showers were seriously palatial and very tidy/clean, way better than many hotels I’ve stayed at. Also liked the dog park at the front.

    Guide to Somers

Camping near Somers, Montana offers sites situated between Flathead Lake and the surrounding mountain ranges at an elevation of 2,913 feet. The area experiences warm summers with temperatures reaching the high 80s and cold winters with heavy snowfall. Most campgrounds in the region remain open from April through October, with limited winter camping available at select locations.

    What to do

Boat access to Wild Horse Island: West Shore Unit at Flathead Lake State Park features a permanent dock and boat ramp where visitors can launch watercraft for day trips to nearby Wild Horse Island State Park. "West Shore is a park unit of Flathead Lake State Park and it has two campground loops, walk-in sites, a kayak rental facility, hiking trails, and boat launch. It's a stunning view of the swan and mission mountain ranges across the lake, and there's a small island off the shore," explains Juliana H.

Horseback riding opportunities: Honey's Place RV Spot allows campers to park next to horse corrals where children can interact with the horses. "We brought our short RV and camped next to a horse corral. Our two kids had a great time petting and feeding the two horses and riding bikes around the property," shares David F.

Swimming in Flathead Lake: The crystal-clear water at several lakeside campgrounds provides excellent swimming opportunities. "The water was clear and the dogs throughly enjoyed splashing around. Us humans enjoyed swimming in water where we could actually see if anything was swimming around us," notes Elizabeth G. about West Shore State Park.

    What campers like

Private, peaceful settings: Rocky Mountain Hi Campground receives praise for its quiet, natural setting. "Awesome location. Quiet. Montana views..." writes TimandTeresa B. The campground's layout provides ample space between sites with trees providing natural privacy barriers.

Hot outdoor showers: Camp Whispering Pines offers a unique amenity that earns rave reviews. "The shower was very well thought out: great water pressure, endless heat, and an open roof to stare up at the stars. I will not forget that shower experience for a long time, soaking under the Big Sky," explains Daniel C.

Accommodating hosts: Dog friendly campgrounds near Somers often feature staff who go above and beyond for guests. "We spent the afternoon kayaking here not planning to stay overnight. However, our truck had other ideas and broke down as we were leaving the park. The park staff, especially Sam, went above and beyond to help us," shares Heidi C. about her experience at West Shore State Park.

    What you should know

Limited lake access at some parks: While many campgrounds advertise lakefront locations, the actual water access varies significantly. "No access to the lake from this site," notes Tim about West Shore State Park, while a visitor to Lake Mary Ronan State Park Campground mentions "Lake is very limited for beach. Sites are not cut."

Seasonal activities: The Flathead region experiences significant seasonal changes affecting camping options. "We stayed here twice (my husband 3 times) and it gets better every time! The last time we cycled and stayed here, the benches had over hangs on them for coverage and outlets in them!" writes Stormy G. about Wayfarers State Park Campground.

Wildlife encounters: Bears and other wildlife frequent the area, requiring proper food storage. "Wildlife encounters are common in the region, so campers should store pet food securely to avoid attracting bears," advises a Spruce Park visitor.

    Tips for camping with families

Playgrounds and recreation areas: Spruce Park On The River caters to families with dedicated recreation spaces. "It is very clean, family-friendly and kid oriented. Host even planned a Scavenger hunt with treats! Plenty of paved, safe, bike riding areas," reports Lynn A.

Swimming options for different ages: Several campgrounds provide designated swimming areas suitable for children. "We used today as a catch up day. We're on the road for over a month and this was an unscheduled day. We happened upon Rocky Mtn Hi and the kids and I love it. The kids could play all day in the great park with a whole western town set up and swimming hole in the creek," says Jennifer H.

Pet-specific amenities: Many pet-friendly campsites around Somers include dedicated dog areas. "Big unfenced dog playground," notes Lynn A. about Spruce Park, making it ideal for families traveling with dogs who need exercise space.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup variability: Most dog friendly campgrounds near Somers offer different hookup options at varying price points. "Full hookup sites, big rig friendly, and great location. Office staff is friendly and helpful. Good nightly rate for the area," reports Joseph H. about Rocky Mountain Hi Campground.

Size restrictions and challenges: Some campgrounds have limited access for larger RVs. "Getting into our site was a bit challenging. For all of those who are looking for a back-in challenge, this is your spot! We had to go in the out which was up hill and then back in between pine trees because they are everywhere," shares Julia M. about Outback Montana RV Park & Campground.

Extended stays: Several campgrounds accommodate longer-term visitors. "Clean. Bathrooms good. Wifi is better than most campgrounds. Cable TV. Full hookups. Friendly staff. All needed services are close," says SEAN E. about his month-long stay at Rocky Mountain Hi Campground.
