Best RV Parks & Resorts near Somers, MT

Several RV parks surround Flathead Lake near Somers, Montana, providing convenient bases for exploring the region. Rollins RV Park, open April through October, offers full hookup sites with 50-amp service and accommodates large motorhomes on its big-rig friendly spaces. Just north in Bigfork, Outback Montana RV Park features 50 sites with electric hookups including both 30-amp and 50-amp options, though it's not designated for larger rigs. Columbia Falls RV Park, operating year-round with 75 sites, provides full hookups with water, sewer, and electric connections for a range of RV sizes. "Our site was not very level front to back and side to side, and though we got close, we couldn't get fully level," noted one RV traveler about Mountain Meadow RV Park, highlighting the importance of bringing leveling blocks when camping in this mountainous region.

Cell service varies significantly throughout the area, with AT&T users reporting 2-3 bars of LTE at most parks while T-Mobile coverage can be nonexistent at some locations. Most RV campgrounds in the region maintain pet-friendly policies with designated dog areas at several parks. Dump stations are available at many facilities, though West Shore State Park lacks this amenity, requiring a trip to Kalispell for this service. Summer reservations fill quickly, particularly for parks near Glacier National Park entrances. Navigation to some RV parks requires careful planning - one reviewer mentioned needing to "go in the out which was uphill and then back in between pine trees" at Outback Montana RV Park. Winter camping options are limited, with Columbia Falls RV Park being one of the few facilities operating year-round with full hookup capabilities.

Fish Creek Campground — Glacier National Park

    Great sites, good location

Fish Creek campground within Glacier National Park is a great place to stay on the west side of the park. It’s within a short walk to beautiful Lake McDonald. There are no electrical or water hookups available, but there is a dump station on the way out. The bathrooms have clean flush toilets and sinks, but no soap provided. Loop A showers have great water pressure and hot water. There are plenty of water spigots throughout the campground. There are several bear proof food storage sites as well. The Fish Creek amphitheater hosts fantastic ranger talks almost every night during the summer. Most if not all of the sites in loop A are pull through, but they can be very tight for a mid size travel trailer. During our stay sit was quiet and peaceful even though every site was full. Excellent National Park campground!

    Glacier Meadow RV Park

    The Meadows

We booked this campgrounds so we could visit Glacier National Park. If that is your intent you need to get Go to the Sun Highway access tickets way in advance. We got luck and were able to visit the Highway by taking the bus trip.

The campground is about 45 minutes from the Going to the Sun Highway. It is a beautiful drive.

The campgrounds is on a meadow. It is very clean and well carried for. The showers are hot, sometimes too hot. 😃 Manager was very informative. It is a quiet campgrounds with a pleasant mix of seniors and families.

My campsite, number 34, has water, 30 Amp, 50 Amp, fire pit, and a picnic table. There is lots of room to park additional vehicles.

The only issue is there is no cellular service unless you use there Verizon booster in the pavilion. The wifi is weak. I have a booster which gives me enough wifi to check my phone and watch movies. I found nothing else to complain about.

    Sundance Campground & RV Park

    Lots to be desired

I reserved a site at Sundance when I couldn't find any other campgrounds close to Glacier National Park that had availability for our 40 ft Super C. It was reasonable in price compared to others, but...

    First the pros:

    1. We had a pull through site.
    2. Plenty of space for our towed Jeep to park.
    3. Beautiful trees and wild huckleberry bushes provided a peaceful setting and some privacy.
    4. It is minutes from the West Glacier entrance.

    Cons:

    1. No sewer at the sites. There is a dump station you can use on the way out.
    2. The sites are level, but just barely.
    3. Instead of a sturdy dumpster or bear-proof receptacles, there are old fashioned galvanized cans with unattached lids. All of them were completely full the three days we were there.
    4. The dog run is unkempt and has no doggie bags or even a garbage can for waste.
    5. Although the trees are nice, they are so close to the parking area that we were unable to extend our awning.
    6. The laundry room has 2 washers and 2 dryers, but only one of each works.
    7. The whole place is terribly unkempt. "Rustic" is being generous. "Junky and trashy" is more accurate.

It is too bad that the owner, who was very nice but obviously trying to run this place all by himself, appears to have given up trying to make a nice place. There are junk cars and RVs surrounding the campground and I don't think a weed whacker has been used for years.

I would have been okay with paying $50 a night for this place, not $90.

    Polson Motorcoach and RV Resort

    The Nicest KOA We’ve seen

First, as we were driving up to the site, I saw these large Class A motorhomes with gazebos and lush green lawns and thought “I wish I knew about this RV park before booking,” only to find out it was the KOA! The sites are leveled, gravel pads on a hill, with a wooden deck, railings, 2 waste water hookups, and super clean facilities. The pool and hot tub were nice and clean. The staff, including the young man who escorted us to our site on check-in, were hospitable. Finally, there is a nice view of Flathead Lake. This is a destination KOA and only an hour from Glacier National Park.

    Whitefish RV Park

    Great location with AWESOME rates

Stayed here as part of a 12 day vacation. Nice small rv park just behind a hotel which muffled the street noise a bit. I'd say 40% ish of the park is long term residents, but they were all friendly and stoped by to talk and talk about our rig. The couple who run it are incredibly nice. We were about 75 yards from the showers/bathroom which was nice. This was the first time for us to stay in an RV site with the roof top tent which we took advantage of with an electric heater and blanket for the nights. It was needed because it was high 30's in the mornings. The Glacier Nation Park gate was about 25 miles away. There were a ton of great restaurants and shops near by. I'd highly recommend stopping by the Army Navy Surplus store next to the rv park! I could see if your towing a fifth wheel or have a long setup this location could be a tight squeeze. Ohhhh yeah there is this town siren that goes off every night at 10p sharp...there is a reason behind this with some history, pretty cool...I'll let you look into that!!

    Swan Lake Campground

    Beautiful dry camping site

Swan Lake Campground in the Flathead in National in Forest near Ferndale/Bigfork Mt is a beautiful wooded campground with lots of wooded private campground spots. The host is onsite and we had no problem backing in a 40’ motorhome with a tow dolly and vehicle. I did not see any pull through spots. We didn’t have any cell service (Verizon) and cell service is spotty out towards Swan Lake. The lake is right across the street and you can rent paddleboard‘s and probably kayaks. The campground spots are level and paved with a picnic table and a fire pit. There are porta potty type bathrooms, bear food lockers and enclosed trash bins. $20 per night. Bears are active in this area. There’s a fun bar/restaurant about 10 minutes down the road towards Bigfork called the A Bar. I highly recommend it (they even carry my “Josh” Cabernet as the bar wine. You’ll find all kinds of local characters.

    Glacier Campground

Laid Back Wooded Park Very Close to Glacier

Lots of amenities, friendly staff, good cell service, and very close to Glacier NP. Only reason not 5 stars is the roads are a bit tight getting into sites. Not big rig friendly.

West Glacier RV & Cabin Resort

    West Glacier RV Park

This park is all about location and you pay a premium for that. FHU pull through sites, pretty good wifi and no OTA TV or cable for the times not in GNP. All facilities are clean and functional. Site layout is fair with the power pedestal way forward so it's either park your tow vehicle behind your trailer or have a lot of length for all your connections. Camp side is facing west so it's pretty hot in the afternoon sun.

Flathead Lake camping areas near Somers, Montana sit at approximately 3,000 feet elevation in the Rocky Mountain region. Summer temperatures typically range from 70-85°F during peak camping season from June through September, with cooler nights around 45-55°F. What to do

Lake activities at Flathead Lake: Access points around Rollins RV Park offer clear water for swimming and boating. "The spot across the highway for the lake was also well maintained. Incredibly clear and gorgeous water. We rented a pontoon boat from the rv park and explored the lake," notes a visitor to Rollins RV Park.

Visit Bigfork's downtown: The small historic district is within walking distance from several campgrounds. "Lake Flathead; the historic downtown of Bigfork is cute, but small and not much going on. We got some ice cream," reports a camper at Outback Montana RV Park & Campground.

Explore hiking trails: The Swan River Nature Trail offers accessible hiking near camping areas. "We did find a great running trail (Swan River Nature Trail) nearby that was 2 miles one way - flat and smooth gravel so no worries about rolling an ankle," mentions one reviewer about trails accessible from Bigfork.

What campers like

Private wooded sites: Many campers appreciate secluded spots with natural surroundings. At Mountain Meadow RV Park and Cabins, a camper noted, "We lucked out with site #50 though, it was very secluded and the picnic firepit area was like our own little cubby in the woods."

On-site food options: Some campgrounds feature restaurants with limited but quality dining. A visitor to Rollins RV Park commented, "The restaurant had amazing food. The food was excellent, but it's like being in the UK, where you order everything yourself."

Family-friendly amenities: Playgrounds and recreation areas provide entertainment for younger campers. "One of the best things about the park is the great playground for kids. Our kids loved it!" shared a camper about 3 Bears Campground and RV Park.

What you should know

Campground navigation challenges: Some RV parks have tight access roads that require careful maneuvering. A reviewer at Outback Montana RV Park & Campground noted, "Getting into our site was a bit challenging. For all of those who are looking for a back-in challenge, this is your spot!"

Site leveling requirements: Many campsites in the mountainous terrain require leveling equipment. "Our site was not very level front to back and side to side, and though we got close, we couldn't get fully level," a camper observed about Mountain Meadow RV Park and Cabins.

Campground quiet hours: Most rv sites near Somers enforce nighttime quiet policies, though enforcement varies. At LaSalle RV Park, a visitor mentioned their "stay was lovely, couldn't ask for more, was mostly quiet since 41 is toward back, away from road."

Tips for camping with families

Premium bathroom facilities: Look for campgrounds with well-maintained facilities. A camper at LaSalle RV Park reported, "The bathrooms/showers were seriously palatial and very tidy/clean, way better than many hotels I've stayed at."

Day trips to Glacier National Park: Many campgrounds offer convenient base camps for Glacier exploration. "We stayed here so we could leave our trailer and drive the Going-to-the-Sun road in Glacier National Park. Worked Great," noted a visitor at LaSalle RV Park.

On-site fishing opportunities: Some campgrounds feature stocked ponds for fishing without leaving the property. A visitor to Columbia Falls RV Park mentioned, "It is very convenient to a lot of areas... Beautiful mountain views are a big plus for us."

Tips from RVers

Site selection for privacy: Choose sites strategically to maximize personal space. At Mountain Meadow RV Park and Cabins, a camper advised, "We had site 16, which is the area where they put most of the big rigs. But many of the other sites had their own little secluded area."

Larger campground setups: Big rig owners should research site dimensions carefully. "If your looking for a big quiet spot in the woods, this is the place. We have a 45' 5th wheel, and our pull through spot, as are most spots, is tremendous," reported a visitor to Pine Meadows RV Resort.

Seasonal operating schedules: Check opening and closing dates as most RV parks operate seasonally. "We enjoyed our stay so much that we ended up asking if they could extend their service past October 1st and they said YES!" shared a camper at Rollins RV Park.
