Love this lake. Not far from kalispell. About a 15 minute drive up Batavia road.

All the campsites are nice and large. With fire rings and a picnic table. Each spot has its own beautiful access to the lake. Bring your small, medium and large water toys because there's plenty of space and the lake is so gorgeous your never gonna want to leave. A boat ramp is not but a mile, if that.

SiteI have stayed at several sites over the last 7 years. its truly beautiful with clear water and it looks like you're in a tropical destination!!

Beautiful, hard to access

Really nice spot, but 15 ish miles down a rough gravel road. The campground itself is very primitive, and the loop would be hard to drive for anything longer than a car. It was tight for my suburban. Definitely worth it if you have a smaller rig and want to get away.

Nice Sites with firepits and fun lake to canoe

We stayed at this site Memorial Day weekend 2018. We were told they wouldn’t open the sites until later that day, but we figured we’d get there early and go for a hike. There were two sites left when we arrived. The grounds were relatively clean and there was a nice stack of firewood at each site, which was a nice surprise. It was easy enough to put a canoe in the water, though you do feel like your walking through other people’s sites. There was a nice trail around the lake and plenty of loons and bald eagles to watch and listen to. Our first night was rough when a very large group of teenagers decided to camp out at the closed host site. Between 10pm and 3am a new vehicle arrived every 15 minutes. They partied and left the next morning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Ashley Lake North Campground and South Campground?

Ashley Lake North Campground features spacious campsites with direct lake access, fire rings, and picnic tables. It's situated on a loop road that can be tight for larger vehicles. South Campground offers an alternative camping experience at Ashley Lake but with different site configurations and potentially different amenities. Each provides its own unique access points to the lake, though North Campground is known for its beautiful waterfront sites where campers can easily launch small to large water toys directly from their campsite area.

What camping facilities and amenities are available at Ashley Lake Campground?

Ashley Lake North Campground is a primitive campground offering basic amenities including fire rings and picnic tables at each site. The campsites are large and spacious, each providing beautiful access to the lake. There's no drinking water or electrical hookups available. A boat ramp is located approximately a mile from the campground, making it convenient for launching watercraft. The campground's main appeal is its natural setting and direct lake access, perfect for swimming, fishing, and boating activities.

Are reservations required for camping at Ashley Lake, and what are the fees?

Ashley Lake North Campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservation system in place. The campground can fill up quickly, especially during holiday weekends like Memorial Day, so arriving early is recommended to secure a spot. While specific fee information isn't detailed, this is a primitive campground with basic amenities, so fees are likely modest compared to more developed campgrounds. Contact the managing agency (likely Flathead National Forest) for current fee information and payment methods before your trip.

Where is Ashley Lake Campground located in Montana and how do I get there?

Ashley Lake North Campground is located in northwestern Montana near Kalispell. To reach the campground, you'll need to travel approximately 15 miles down a rough gravel road. The remote location makes for a peaceful setting but requires preparation. The access road can be challenging, especially for larger vehicles, so smaller vehicles are recommended. Plan your route carefully and allow extra time for the drive in, as the unpaved access requires slow, careful navigation.
