Convenient to Whitefish

Small campground surrounding a busy boat launch and beach. Lots of people having lots of fun on a July Sunday. Not really away from it all. Monday is much more peaceful. Train is a reality here. Train-side sites have more privacy. Many of the sites on the other side are right on the camp road.

Camp on the Lake!

$10 gets you an night of camping. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table. First come, first serve. In the winter, the bathrooms are closed but a port-o-john is provided. Woke up to a bunch of people ice fishing! Only 3 minutes from downtown. Away from it all while close to it all.

Great stop!!!

Stopped here after leaving Glacier NP. I’m sure it’s crowded in the summer, but there were only a few others with us on this day in May. Bathrooms were super clean, showers were $3 for 6 minutes and you have to get tokens from the staff. I believe we paid around $28 since we were out of state, but it was worth it for us. The train is loud, but not a huge deal for us as my friend never even heard it in the night.

Didn't Realize The Proximity to the Train Tracks!

I snagged a spot here for one night on my way through Whitefish. The lake and beach looked awesome and I definitely would've gotten out for a paddle if the weather had been slightly warmer.

The location was super convenient and just a five-minute drive away from town. The facilities were also clean and well-maintained.

The campground itself was relatively empty and quiet when I visited, but my site was right underneath the train tracks, which I didn't realize until the first train of the night came by and woke me up around 2 am.

After that, it seemed like another train came through every hour on the hour. In hindsight, I would've chosen an open site on the other side of the campground to minimize the overnight train noise.

Beautiful small campground on a beautiful lake, but......

Let's address the elephant in the room. The train. Yep it runs right next to the park. Yep it can be loud and annoying, but don't overlook this place because of it. Bring earplugs and a white noise machine and you will sleep like a baby. You are just steps from the lake. Paddleboard and kayak rentals are available at the park. There are hike/bike in sites. Super clean. Small, but like most state parks, the sites are not jammed together like commercial campgrounds. See photos for views of the sites. Nice showers NOTE: showers are token. $3 for 6 min. Available from the folks that check you in. There is a great public golf course nearby. The town is terrific. The hike/mountain bike trails are really cloae. We would definitely return.

Beautiful but small

The location of the campground is great, very close to the mountain town of Whitefish Montana and right along Whitefish Lake. The sites are small and the road is narrow but it is beautiful. I would be cautious about bringing any large campers to this area but the tent sites are nice. Be aware of ticks. Some sites are nice and level but others have a heavy slope.

Trains

This spot is beautiful but the train is SO close and loud. No one in my group slept more than 30 minutes at a time and the ground would shake when the train went by. Light sleeper or not you will be woken up constantly. This park would be great for a day visit but definitely would not camp here again.

Not My First (or second or third) Choice

Dear God above, the train...it runs right next to the campground at all hours. Fun for the kids to see from the lake at 3pm, hell for a family tent camping at 3am. It is the reason we won’t go back.

The facilities are great. Bear vaults provided. Lake access is awesome. The Watersport rentals are nice and affordable. By all means, pay the fee and hang out here for a day. It’s a great day-use area. And if you can sleep through the end of the world, camp here happily. Everyone else, pick another option in the area. There are plenty.

The Most Done with the Space They Have

Despite being near houses and a load train route - and on the smaller side of things - this campground makes the most of it. Two camp hosts, great signage and brochures, and a pretty sweet little bay to boat in on makes this a good spot. You could land in a lot worse places than Whitefish, MT, let me tell you.

Located on the south side of Whitefish Lake.

Whitefish Lake State Park is located right on the south end of Whitefish Lake. Beautiful sunsets across the lake and wonderful views of the Northern Lights during the summer months. If your lucky and can reserve a spot on the Fourth of July you will see the city's fireworks display on the lake.

Campground has about 25 camping locations, restroom and showers, public boat launch and on site campground host. Perfect location for kayaking and paddle boarding.

As others have stated you are right next to train tracks and they do run often.

Trains!

This campground is located in a great spot for getting onto Whitefish Lake and being near town while still out in the woods. But... There are train tracks about 40 feet away from some of the campsites and trains come through almost all night long. If you are a light sleeper I wouldn't plan on getting much sleep. There are restrooms and water as well as a day picnic area. Overall, the campground is quite nice and has good proximity to some beautiful hikes. Also, if you are into winter camping this is probably one of the best places to camp to get out to Whitefish to ski.

Train tracks right next to campground

This was a very lovely park for a day visit. It's right on the lake with beautiful, clean facilities. Unfortunately, the busy train tracks pass right next to the park, with the tracks a couple hundred feet from campsites. Trains pass through regularly, all night long. It was so close that our tent shook! It was impossible to sleep more than a few minutes at a time, as we could only sleep between train passings. We were grateful we'd only booked one night.

Very nice campground!

I loved being here it was so nice the campground is nice the sites are close together but you are right next to the lake! The people that work here are so nice and the volunteers! I went on some very nice hikes and you can rent paddle boards right at the campground for a very affordable price. I definitely recommend going here! However if you are a light sleeper there is a train track near by and you will hear a couple trains.
