Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground

Pretty camping area, lake was filthy and smelly

This was a pretty campsite with lots of trees and simple deer trails throughout. Sites are well spread out. The lake itself was filthy and smelly. Lots of trash and rotting fish on the shorelines. The campground website said they had WiFi throughout the campsite, however it was only available at the front office. No cell service. We had planned to stay for a week to school and work remotely, but had to cut our time here short because of no connectivity. If we hadn’t had the need for WiFi, this would have been a fine campground to stay at, as it is centrally located to many sightseeing locations.

Sties were level, kid and pet friendly, quiet campground, 30/50 amp electricity, no water hookups, firewood avail for fire pits, also had nice picnic tables. Inexpensive.

    Damsite

    Good fishing and great views

Very peaceful campground. It has a peninsula with some nice, shady sites but also another very wooded area on a bluff. The backside of the peninsula has zero shade (sites 26-40). All sites have good picnic tables and fire rings. Sites near the dump station can be very aromatic. No swim beach but you can access the water straight from the rocky shore. A lot of people tie their boats to shore below their campsite. There is a gas station/trading post right outside the entrance. And a tasty little restaurant with all kinds of sandwiches and ice cream treats. Beautiful sunrises and the sun sets over the dam. I really like this campground. Family friendly and everyone seems to have a dog:) but people do a good job of picking up after them.

    Osage Campground Retreat

    Full hookups but sketchy

Clean grounds, close to a conservation boat ramp and again full hookups. That’s about where it ends.

Most sites appear to be year-round Occupied. Fifth wheels with buried to sewer lines And people riding their lawn mowers outside their campers.

All things being equal it seems like more of a trailer park with a few camping vacancies.

Doolittle Acres RV Park and Campground

    Nice area

Good area only a mile off the highway so it made a great night stopping point. Had great access for our starlink. They have a little dog park, kids park, and it was all clean and well maintained. Easy access and some nice pull through spots. Water, sewer, and electric hook ups. Fire pit and picnic table at site. Since it’s close the highway it was a little loud with traffic. 57$ a night for premium spots, 42$ a night for non premium

    Turkey Creek RV Park

    Nice Campground! Nice and Quiet!

Turkey Creek was a very nice campground for our month long stay.  The park is well maintained and clean.  It is very quiet!  There is a train track nearby, but we only heard it a few times during our stay.

Amenities included full hook up, laundry room, bathrooms, showers and a fenced dog park where you 4 legged friends can enjoy some off-leash time.  We had 4 bars with AT&T and waffled between 1-3 bars with Verizon.

The location is great for visiting local attractions such as Branson Landing, Silver Dollar City and Top of the Rock.

Really appreciate the park manager, she was friendly and brought an overpayment to our attention and quickly issued a refund.

    Great experience overall!

    Laurie RV Park

    Nothing fancy

We stayed here for 3 weeks, full hookups, all large pull through sites, (don’t stay in site 16)… (see photo) clubhouse and shower house is kinda nasty but we don’t need it, 6-8 trailers live there year round, no staff on site, WiFi was sketchy but if you are just looking for a place to stay and explore the Ozarks it works.

Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground

Lake of the Ozarks State Park campground Spring 2022

Lake of the Ozarks State Park campground is located in Kaiser Missouri about 5 miles down highway 134 off of highway 42. This campground is about 1.5 hour from Columbia and Springfield Missouri. It is approximately 3 hours from St.Louis and Kansas City Missouri .

Lake of the Ozarks State Park includes two different areas which are both located on Lake of the Ozarks.

The one reviewed here is located in Kaiser and includes Public Beach #1 , a marina/gas dock , horse stables/trails, hiking trails, beach, fishing dock, shore fishing and campground.

The other is located in Osage Beach about 20 minutes away and includes Public Beach #2, grand glaze marina/gas dock, shore fishing and hiking trails. No camping is available at the Osage Beach location aka PB 2 or grand glaze.

Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground is a wonderful place to set up camp for the weekend and is one of my all time favorites. The State Park is clean and well maintained with plenty to do for everyone.

The camp sites range from primitive to full hook up 50amp and you will see a range of camping types from tents to class A's . The sites are well spaced out despite how the reservation map appears on the State Park website. I would however suggest staying at the campsites on the outer edges as the interior sites are a bit more cramped.

This area includes bath and shower houses that are of average cleanliness for a State park (typically worn but clean). As well as 3 playgrounds for the kids. Also on site is a Beach so bring a Towel and swimming suit.

A few things to note . If you come in the winter or spring the lake will be low and your lake side campsite will be Lake view instead. You are located about 15 minutes from a grocery store however a camp store is available also bring bug spray.

Your ideal sites are lakeside 160's I stayed at #163 and it was wonderful open with not a lot of tress for the dogs to get tangled in.

This is a true gem at the lake and even though I only live 15 miles away we visit many times throughout the year.

Raccoon Ridge — Harry S Truman State Park

Shaded, Quiet and close to the lake!

Site 36 with 30A & 120V. Public Water Spigot about 50’ away. No Sewer or Water connections at Raccoon Ridge. Plenty of dead kindling and wood around to burn. Asphalt drive with concrete pad. Picnic table, fire/grill ring, hook post w/ recycle bag attached. BEST Site is 38 which puts trailer door parallel with a 180 lake view. Heavy wooded with shared paths to lake or cove. Marina is within 1 mile by water or 15 minutes by car. Ice, Beer and necessities at Puddle Jumpers Bait Store about 10 minute drive. Hosts were great and did cleaning daily. Showers and Dump Station at top of hill few hundred yards away. Let shower water run about 3 minutes before the warm water kicks in. Swim beach is on other side of cove or about a 5 min drive. Dump Station has 4 Waste Holes, two Non-potable water spigots/hoses and one Fresh Potable Water hose and both sides have slight incline on dump tank side. Downtown Warsaw is about 15 minutes away with tourist antique shoppes, bars, ice cream shoppes and the historic Joe Dice Suspension Bridge. The Truman Dam is about same distance away. T-Mobile service with 2-3 bars, no WIFI; but HotSpot worked for ROKU. Keep food and bait inside as raccoons rule at night. Be CAUTIOUS of Red Ticks that are VERY tiny… you’ll want plenty of DEET! Flies were biting like crazy, some mosquitoes and LOTS of May Flies. You’ll see Bald Eagles, raccoons. deer, squirrels, chipmunks, hawks, turtles and FISHING near wooded edge of cove is Bass and Crappie haven!!! Also Geocaching near by!!!

We will return and hopefully get site 38!

Guide to Osage Beach

Osage Beach offers year-round camping opportunities with a moderate climate and an elevation of around 600 feet. Most campgrounds are situated within 5-10 miles of Lake of the Ozarks, providing convenient water access. RV sites throughout the region commonly feature gravel pads with varying degrees of shade, and some campgrounds provide boat slip access for campers bringing watercraft.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Cross Creek RV Park features an 8-acre stocked lake for private fishing. "We tent camped on the island for 2 nights. It was awesome, you can fish right off the bank of your own private island within minutes of waking up," notes Barrett C., who appreciated the convenience for families with young children.

Water recreation: Riveria Villas & RV Resort offers direct lake access and elevated views. According to TJ G., "The pool area sits on top of a bluff overlooking the lake. It's absolutely beautiful. The pool area also has a very nice cabana, firepit, and bathrooms."

Mini-golf and activities: Family-friendly amenities are available at several rv parks near Osage Beach. "Kids love the mini golf, shuffleboard, and basketball. Huge private lake great for fishing and watching duck families swim by and come up to you on the grass!" shares Keidra P. about Cross Creek RV Park.

What campers like

Central location: Proximity to local attractions is a common advantage. "Location is close to the town, restaurants, and the state park. Friendly hosts," reports Jan S. about Osage Beach RV Park. The campground's central position makes it possible to walk to nearby establishments.

Hiking access: Some Osage Beach camping facilities offer on-site trail systems. "Nice park, hiking trails on site, spots are well maintained. Good amenities on site and very close to everything the Lake has to offer," mentions Russ G. about Majestic Oaks RV Park & Campground.

Clean facilities: Consistently maintained restrooms and common areas receive frequent praise. "The restrooms and showers were very clean and well kept. The staff was always very friendly and welcoming," notes David E., who visited Osage Beach RV Park during a busy holiday weekend.

What you should know

Seasonal operation: Many campgrounds close during winter months. Cross Creek RV Park operates from April 15 to November 1, while Osage Beach RV Park runs from March 27 to November 1. Year-round options include Majestic Oaks with its 80 full-hookup sites.

Site spacing considerations: Several reviews mention proximity between sites. "The reason I took a star off was that the sites were closer together than I like," reports Shannon G. about Osage Beach RV Park, while others note this is common across most Lake of the Ozarks campgrounds.

Booking requirements: Some locations have minimum stay policies. TJ G. mentions that Riveria Villas & RV Resort "can only be booked through the campsite and there is a 3 night minimum stay."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds feature dedicated play areas. "The park is very clean, the employees are friendly and helpful. Good wifi and cable tv. The in ground pool is clean. There is a lot to do at the park," shares TJ G. about Majestic Oaks RV Park.

Holiday activities: Special events occur during peak seasons. "The events around halloween are always so fun for kids and adults alike. They truly put so much work into making it the best experience for their guests," notes Hattie about Majestic Oaks RV Park & Campground.

Private island camping: For a unique family experience, consider tent sites at Cross Creek. "Not as secluded as the other survivor tent site but really fantastic place. Had a restroom on the island, big plus for a family with 5 little ones," reports Barrett C.

Tips from RVers

Work-friendly amenities: Remote workers can find suitable connectivity at select rv parks in Osage Beach, Missouri. "Received a warm welcome when arrived. Campground host led us to our site and ensured we had everything we needed for our visit. Moderate Verizon cell service. Average WiFi service throughout the park," shares Jim B. about Osage Beach RV Park.

Site selection strategy: Choose based on your priorities. David E. reports about Scallywag's RV Park: "Campsites are available with access to a covered or uncovered boat slip that is about a 5 min walk down hill. There's a waterside restaurant called Captain Ron's at the bottom of the hill that is family friendly."

Trailer parking options: Some campgrounds provide overflow parking. "They have separate trailer parking if you're set up is too long to keep hooked up," notes David about Scallywag's RV Park, an important consideration for RVers with boats or tow vehicles.
