Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground

Lake of the Ozarks State Park campground Spring 2022

Lake of the Ozarks State Park campground is located in Kaiser Missouri about 5 miles down highway 134 off of highway 42. This campground is about 1.5 hour from Columbia and Springfield Missouri. It is approximately 3 hours from St.Louis and Kansas City Missouri .

Lake of the Ozarks State Park includes two different areas which are both located on Lake of the Ozarks.

The one reviewed here is located in Kaiser and includes Public Beach #1 , a marina/gas dock , horse stables/trails, hiking trails, beach, fishing dock, shore fishing and campground.

The other is located in Osage Beach about 20 minutes away and includes Public Beach #2, grand glaze marina/gas dock, shore fishing and hiking trails. No camping is available at the Osage Beach location aka PB 2 or grand glaze.

Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground is a wonderful place to set up camp for the weekend and is one of my all time favorites. The State Park is clean and well maintained with plenty to do for everyone.

The camp sites range from primitive to full hook up 50amp and you will see a range of camping types from tents to class A's . The sites are well spaced out despite how the reservation map appears on the State Park website. I would however suggest staying at the campsites on the outer edges as the interior sites are a bit more cramped.

This area includes bath and shower houses that are of average cleanliness for a State park (typically worn but clean). As well as 3 playgrounds for the kids. Also on site is a Beach so bring a Towel and swimming suit.

A few things to note . If you come in the winter or spring the lake will be low and your lake side campsite will be Lake view instead. You are located about 15 minutes from a grocery store however a camp store is available also bring bug spray.

Your ideal sites are lakeside 160's I stayed at #163 and it was wonderful open with not a lot of tress for the dogs to get tangled in.

This is a true gem at the lake and even though I only live 15 miles away we visit many times throughout the year.

Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground

    Huge!

Very large campground with at least 4 levels. Boat ramp for lake access electricity avail, and some primitive. There are water spigots throughout. Camp hosts located throughout park. Lots of interesting things to do near by, and of course Osage beach! Store at entrance and one at the boat ramp. Clean shower houses. They offer yurts. Large campsites. This is a very nice campground.

Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground

Well maintained State Park with lots of RV sites

We traveled to the Ozarks in early spring, before the park was "open" for the season and the lake was at winter pool.  The park is very clean, there are multiple vault toilets and several shower houses throughout.  Every site has electrical hookups and they are nicely spaced apart.  There is a boat launch, tons of shoreline for fishing, and many hiking trails as well.  Very close to the tourist town of Osage Beach which was great for exploring during the off-season with less crowds.  Short drive to Ha-Ha Tonka State Park for awesome views and the remains of a castle!  The deer that roam throughout the park are so fun to watch as they are not timid or scared off by the presence of people.  We will definitely be returning when we find ourselves in this area again!

    Osage Beach RV Park

    Great WiFi, centrally located

This was a very nice, clean campground in the city of Osage Beach. We needed a campsite to be able to work and school remotely from and this fit the bill with excellent WiFi that had boosters all throughout the campground. It was quiet, with not a lot to do at the campground itself (there was a pool, but it was off-season, so not open), but is centrally located to a lot of sight-seeing adventures. Very friendly, helpful hosts and nice laundry facilities. Phone signals good for AT&T and Verizon. Propane available, playground, shuffleboard and Good Sam discount.

    Lake Ozarks RV Resort

Clean campground, close to many attractions

This campground is clean, and is close to many attractions near the Lake of the Ozarks.

Wifi is spotty, but my site was at the back of the campground. The campsite also has a new in ground pool and dog park.

Reason I gave this campsite 3 stars is because it is clearly still under construction (6/30/23), which I was not aware of. My guess is this was the first season it was open. Half of the park still had conex boxes and construction equipment around. The dog park had little grass and was very rocky.

The owners were VERY nice and accommodating.

If I were to return next year in 2024 I have no doubt I would have given this campsite 4 or 5 stars

Doolittle Acres RV Park and Campground

    Great Route 66 stop

The camp area looks new, cute playground, small fenced dog park type area, showers, laundry, fire pits and picnic tables. Very little trees or grass. Would love it if they played up the Route 66 theme they have going. Very convenient for our fishing trip!

    Linn Creek Koa

    Great for just popping through.

Great place for a place to stay near the lake of the ozarks attractions. Super close to big surf and not a bad drive from all the lake has to offer. But not a favorite for a trip focused more on hanging out at the camp site. Very hilly (though grade on the site wasn’t bad at all), pull through sites make getting in easy with larger rigs but all roads through are gravel and rutted so not the easiest. Sites close together without much in between. Nice large trees would offer some summer shade but still not much separation between sites. Water and electric at site. Small “dog park” (fenced in area) great for smaller dogs to run off leash and pretty large kid okay ground too. Overall we will stay here again but think of it more as bringing our own hotel to the lake rather than coming to enjoy the campground.

Doolittle Acres RV Park and Campground

    Nice area

Good area only a mile off the highway so it made a great night stopping point. Had great access for our starlink. They have a little dog park, kids park, and it was all clean and well maintained. Easy access and some nice pull through spots. Water, sewer, and electric hook ups. Fire pit and picnic table at site. Since it’s close the highway it was a little loud with traffic. 57$ a night for premium spots, 42$ a night for non premium

Guide to Osage Beach

Lake of the Ozarks offers over 1,150 miles of shoreline for camping enthusiasts near Osage Beach, Missouri. The area serves as a year-round destination with temperatures often exceeding 90°F during summer months and mild winters. Campgrounds in this region range from basic tent sites to full-hookup RV parks, with several offering direct water access for fishing and boating activities.

What to do

Hiking trails with wildlife viewing: Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground features multiple trails where visitors frequently spot local wildlife. "Huge beautiful park. A lot of hiking and biking trails. Boat ramp and store in the park. We saw about 20 deer each day," reports Anthony C. from Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground.

Private lake activities: Cross Creek RV Park provides a unique camping experience with its own private lake. "Campground sits on 70 acres and includes an 8 acre stocked lake. Boat rental, paddle boats, miniature golf, shuffleboard, volleyball, playground, hiking and a general store," shares Sherry D. from Cross Creek RV Park.

Island tent camping: For those seeking a unique camping experience, Cross Creek offers tent sites on a private island. "We tent camped on the island for 2 nights. It was awesome, you can fish right off the bank of your own private island within minutes of waking up," explains Barrett C., noting the convenience of "a restroom on the island, big plus for a family with 5 little ones."

Military recreation options: Active duty and retired military personnel have access to boat rentals and water activities at Military Park. "Has full hookups, big rig friendly and has a large array of boats you can rent. A little difficult to get to it and fairly far from towns but it's worth it," notes Paul S.

What campers like

Quiet off-season camping: Spring and fall offer more peaceful pet friendly camping experiences near Osage Beach, Missouri. "I was just there during spring break. I was the only tent camper. Maybe 8 RVs or so out of nearly 150 campsites. It was nice and quiet. Beautiful scenery—able to camp with a view of the lake," writes David W. from Lake of the Ozarks State Park Campground.

Proximity to town amenities: Osage Beach RV Park provides convenience for campers wanting to access restaurants and shops. "We stayed overnight here because our dog was sick and this was close to the animal hospital we visited. We wish would have stayed here originally. While the State Park was nice this campground offered so much more and was closer to town so we could walk to restaurants," shares Tom B. from Osage Beach RV Park.

Remote water access: Water's Edge Campground offers direct water access from campsites. "Open campground steady water flow volleyball court horse shoe pits," notes Derek C., while another camper adds it's a "Really fun place to fish and swim!"

Family-oriented atmosphere: Majestic Oaks maintains a family-friendly environment with organized activities. "Family owned and it's kept very clean. The events around halloween are always so fun for kids and adults alike. They truly put so much work into making it the best experience for their guests," explains Hattie.

What you should know

Military campground restrictions: Military Park Fort Leonard Wood Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area is limited to specific users. "Beautiful campground, though Full hookup sites are on an unappealing parking lot. Sites with electric and water only are in nice oak woods overlooking Lake of the Ozarks. Tent sites are right on the water, with spectacular views," notes Kate B. from Military Park Fort Leonard Wood Lake of the Ozarks Recreation Area, adding it's "limited to active or retired military or vets with service related disability."

Site positioning challenges: Some campgrounds require research for appropriate site selection. "Our site was kinda tricky to get into, especially if you have a longer trailer. Seemed like quite a few were that way, so do your research," advises Jenny H.

Road conditions: Access roads to some campgrounds may present challenges. "The campsite had fine amenities that I would expect from a KOA: decent bathrooms, playground, basic pool. What I didn't like was the gravel roads around the campsite were very washed out from rain, unlevel, and I was nervous we'd bust up the camper pulling it," reports Sarah L.

Off-season facility closures: Campers visiting outside peak season should verify which facilities remain operational. "The water was off until the end of March but luckily the pump near the registration kiosk was on. It was just a bit of a drive to get it. And the bathrooms/shower houses are locked as well. Vault toilets were open," mentions David W.

Tips for camping with families

On-site activities: Campgrounds with multiple recreational options keep children engaged. "I love the atmosphere and friendly staff and other campers. Stayed here with other friends and families several times. Always clean and cared for. Nice outdoor pool! Kids love the mini golf, shuffleboard, and basketball," shares Keidra P. from Cross Creek RV Park.

Site selection considerations: When camping with children, prioritize sites with convenient bathroom access. "Nice, clean RV park near grocery store and food. Also near the Lake Of the Ozarks State Park. This RV park has everything you'd need. There is a nice pool, games, laundry, playground, propane, supplies and food, full hook ups, cable, restrooms and showers," notes Shannon G.

Seasonal planning: For families with noise-sensitive children, weekday camping during spring or fall offers quieter conditions. "We were here over Memorial Day weekend and it was still so nice a peaceful. The place was completely full. The spaces were not too close to each other and ours backed to woods," reports David E.

Tips from RVers

Park assistance services: Several pet friendly campgrounds near Osage Beach provide site guidance for RVs. "The spaces were not too close to each other and ours backed to woods. The restrooms and showers were very clean and well kept. The staff was always very friendly and welcoming. They guided us to our spot, helped us back in, delivered firewood and ice right to our site," explains David E. from Majestic Oaks RV Park & Campground.

Remote work capability: For RVers needing connectivity, seek campgrounds with reliable internet. "This was a very nice, clean campground in the city of Osage Beach. We needed a campsite to be able to work and school remotely from and this fit the bill with excellent WiFi that had boosters all throughout the campground," shares Melissa H.

Site levelness: Many campsites in the region require leveling equipment. "Huge campground, tent camper here, made friends with a few RVers, nice and level spots," reports a camper.
