For those looking for a break from the surf, there are shopping outlets, mini golf courses, and numerous spots to grab some fresh lobster. Old Orchard Beach has long been a New England summer tradition; trading quiet camping for go-kart races and thrilling rides, this area is chock full of summer fun. Looking to escape the crowds while camping in southern Maine? Head inland to kayak and camp along the Saco River, as it carves its way from New Hampshire’s White Mountains through to the Atlantic. 


Most campers head to the ocean come summer, so you’ll find solitude amongst the trees, lakes and rivers of inland Maine. Moosehead Lake has some of the best camping in Maine, with numerous lakeside camp spots and deserted beaches off of one of the lake’s dozens of tiny islands. Bring your own canoe, or rent one, and spend the day leisurely paddling alongside loons and other waterfowl; if you’re quiet, you might even happen upon a moose. There are a number of campgrounds to choose from, and many offer secluded lakefront sites. If you are looking to stretch your legs and gain some altitude, head to nearby Baxter State Park. Hiking Maine’s highest peak, Mount Katahdin, is an intense hike that’ll reward you with unparalleled views over Maine’s seemingly endless backcountry. Fair warning: this hike isn’t for children (in fact, no children under six are allowed above the treeline anywhere in Baxter State Park). Nor is it for the faint of heart: its ridgeline is sheer, dropping off some 5,000 feet into Maine’s ancient wilderness below.


Downeast Maine is a remote area that has some of the most beautiful coastline in the world, and some of the most beautiful camping in Maine. Iconic lighthouses, piles of fresh lobster, and seaside hikes that rival inland Maine’s rugged peaks, exploring this area is a must. With Portland, Bangor, and small coastal towns like Bar Harbor, Kennebunkport and Freeport, there are no shortages of places to explore. Our favorite downeast adventure? Tentrr Signature Site - Featherfoot Farm

This IS A VERY rural campsite WHICH IS situated in one of the most private corners of The Dome sanctuary. THE SOLAR SHOWER ARE BAGS OF WATER FILLED AND PRESSURIZED WITH AIR. The tent site is a short walk to the shoreline of Great Pond, a beautiful, remote lake with a dock - the perfect place to kayak, fish and swim! TO GET TO THE LAKE, come back from the tent to our driveway. Turn right onto our driveway and walk onto a mowed path down to the lake.  The immediate descent at the lake is a bit STEEP.

The Tentrr tent is a canvas tent on a platform.  This tent has a queen size MEMORY FOAM mattress on a frame and comes with all bedding.  If your group has more than two campers, two additional tents can be set up.  They each have a queen size air mattress that rest on the tents floor and do NOT come with bedding.  
WITH ALL THREE TENTS WE CAN HAVE A TOTAL of 6 CAMPERS, unless you have little children that can squeeze into a queen size bed with you.    

Once you get here, you may never want to leave - but if you do, there is so much to do in the area. We are a 45 to 60 minute drive to the bustling coastal town of Bar Harbor, which is the gateway to amazing hiking at Acadia National Park - try to get to the top of Cadillac Mountain! If you want to stay close to the campsite, the nearby towns of Ellsworth and Blue Hill  are within 20-45 minutes and are great destinations for quaint shops, grocery stores and restaurants - make sure you try one of the many lobster spots.
The Schoodic Peninsula section of Acadia National Park is also nearby if you enjoy a quiet experience.
We live in a geodesic dome on a private dirt road.  The address is 214 Great Pond Road, Franklin, Maine. PLEASE DRIVE SLOW!(10 MPH) The number and Tentrr sign ARE on the right hand pole at the head of our driveway. There are also several red flashers. Please DO NOT PASS OUR DRIVEWAY and continue on.  The road is dead end with private property at the end. Turn left into our driveway.  When you are coming down our driveway, look for a two track trail to your right hand side, between two red blinkers.  Turn right and drive up to the Tentrr campsite.  YOU WILL PASS ANOTHER CAMPSITE BEFORE YOU GET TO THE TENTRR SITE.    
We live on a narrow private road.  If another vehicle is coming towards you please find a place to pull over and let them by.  AGAIN, THE SPEED LIMIT IS 10 MPH, PLEASE GO SLOW.

Water is available from a hose connected to our house. WE ALSO PROVIDE BEDDING FOR THE MAIN TENT, which has a queen size MEMORY FOAM bed, tiki torches, toilet paper, paper towels and garbage bags. We can set up two additional tents if you have more than two campers. If you don't want to stop at the store, we can also provide you with FIREWOOD for $5.00 per night, CASH ONLY.  The shower is a SOLAR SHOWER, which is dependent upon how much sun we are getting.  You can use the shower in our house for $5.00 per shower.  However, please wear a mask in our house. The toilet is a portable loo that has a shelter around it.  Please dispose of the plastic loo bag in the trash AFTER EACH USE.  There are two trash cans, ONE FOR TRASH and THE OTHER for REFUNDABLE cans or bottles that you do not want. MAINE HAS A 5-10 CENT REFUND FOR MOST BOTTLES.

Please put your loo bags in with the trash. 
PLEASE please please DISPOSE of loo bag after EACH use.  

Yes, there are bugs.  Ticks are a big problem in Maine, especially in the spring.  Bring bug dope, tuck your pant legs into your socks, and check your body from time to time. Maine is also experiencing brown tail moths. In spring they appear as a caterpillar with two red dots on its back.  Do not touch them! Squish them and dispose of in the woods without touching or bringing close to your face.

Zip up all tent windows and doors (clasps, too).

Nestled in the heart of Down east Maine, this oceanfront park is located in one of the most sought-after vacation regions in the state. Lamoine State Park's central location is a quiet alternative that provides easy access to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, rockbound islands, and area lighthouses. Visitors enjoy boating, fishing and simple relaxation in a beautiful location. Park views of Frenchman's Bay, distant view of Mount Desert Island and amenities such as the campground facilities and boat launching ramp are some of the park's highlights.

The towns of Ellsworth, Trenton, Bar Harbor, and Hancock are all within 35 minutes from the campsite, offering great restaurants and shops with waterfront views!

Tentrr State Park Site - Maine Lamoine State Park - Single Camp

23 acres of rolling blueberry barrens interspersed with Maine granite boulders and ledges leading down to over ~1/3 mile of private tidal beach frontage on the Salt Pond(Atlantic Ocean)! Share the view with deer, bald eagles, wild turkeys and tons of local flora and fauna as you walk the ~1 mile road which rings the property. There are three site options, each with their own appeal. TWO are easily accessible from the main road, but removed enough for peace, and have direct water access! SITE 1 is more removed, and is not visible from the main road. It has a more expansive blueberry field view. This site has tenting options in the gravel road by the picnic table/fire barrel, or in the blueberry field itself(walking access only). Walk a 1/4 mile path through the blueberry fields to get down to your own tidal cove- take a dip in the cold Atlantic if you’re brave at high tide, skim the serene Salt Pond waters in your kayak, or go clamming or fishing if you want to work for your dinner! SITE 2 is grassy and closer to the water. The parking area and picnic table is visible from the main road, but you can pitch a tent on the lower portion beside the water which is not visible from the road.\*\*\*UPDATE this road is washed out at the top- SUV/truck/AWD vehicles recommended\*\*\*SITE 3 is HIKE IN ONLY - a private grassy of land jutting into the salt pond - this site is a 1/3 mile gentle downhill hike to the campsite (wheelbarrow provided to move your gear)!

5 min drive from Blue Hill town center, Blue Hill Mountain(more hiking!) and its Bay(more swimming!)- 45 min drive to either Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park, Holbrook Island Sanctuary, the historic Castine waterfront, or the quaint fishing villages of Deer Isle and Stonington. Explore Downeast Maine away from the crowds, at the most beautiful blueberry base you'll see!

WINTER CAMPING: 4 WHEEL DRIVE REQUIRED!! I have bedding but I suggest you bring sleeping bags rated for sub-zero temps as the cabin is NOT insulated. You are welcome to bring a small buddy-heater with you, or, one can be available to rent. The clear panels do act as a greenhouse and the cabin can retain warmth during daylight hours. SPRING CAMPING: We like to call this mud season. Along with that comes the emerging of blood-sucking vermin (aka mosquitos and black flies). This is Maine. Please bring repellent. There is a bug net in the cabin to put over the futon.

SUMMER CAMPING: Please see Spring Camping and then remember that there may be a total of 10 days that the temperatures may be unbearable (but the garden loves it).

Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is a shirt drive with a few hiking trails.

Baxter State Park & Acadia National Park are each an hour and a half away (just in opposite directions).
