Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Liberty, KY
Wilson Creek Recreation Area contains five primitive campsites along a small creek near Green River Lake. All sites allow pets with a picnic table and fire ring at each site. The grounds include pit toilets that are cleaned daily, trash cans at each site, and routine patrol by officers throughout the night for safety. Camping sites are situated in a shaded wooded area where both tents and hammocks can be set up. Pets must remain leashed throughout the campground. The toilets can become unpleasant during hot weather, prompting some campers to bring air fresheners. Wood for campfires is limited within the forest area, so bringing firewood is recommended.
The campground is a short walk from Green River Lake where dogs can access the water. The gravel beach at the end of the road provides a cooling-off spot for both pets and owners during summer months. Old four-wheeler trails surrounding the campground have been converted to hiking paths ideal for dog walking. Campers should note that as of October 2023, Wilson Creek Campground was closed permanently by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and transferred to Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources control. Future openings will be determined by KDFWR. Other nearby pet-friendly options include Holmes Bend Campground which offers both primitive sites and water hookups across its 100+ sites, and Pulaski County Park where pets are permitted in tent, RV, and cabin accommodations from April through October.
