      KOA Campground North Sioux City

      Nice

This KOA is well-maintained, a little older but the grounds are nice and it is well organized and maintained. The dog park is not so well-maintained but was adequate and the pool was clean, and there is easy access to the freeway Both north and south

      Sioux Falls KOA

      Awesome pet-friendly stopover

We decided to stay at this campground because it was close to Falls Park. It’s 4 miles away from the KOA to Downtown. It wasn’t crowded, very clean, met lots of Texans and the pet areas were awesome! In fact, Sioux Falls is a very dog-friendly city and was able to take my dog everywhere! The showers were great if you don’t want to use your own in your camper, but they have laundry and such if you need it. We were close to the showers, pet area and laundry house. Yea, it’s next to a Camping World but you know what, it was a great stay with nice folks and the road noise really isn’t a problem, especially if you just go in your camper and watch tv because you shouldn’t be there for that. 🙃 They just opened for the season so they are still adding some things but I would recommend! We were grateful to stay and not travel during 50mph winds.

      Sioux Falls Yogi Bear

      Great for passing through

Clean bathrooms and showers and close to Falls Park. Tons of amenities for families with kids. Close to the interstate. Great for a one night stay on the way to bigger and better sights. Stayed with a dog and was glad to see the other campers had their pets leashed at all times.

      Blue Mounds State Park Campground

      A Fine Park

Stayed for 3 nights. Very shady, but does not have sewer or water hookup. 30 amp electric service. Grounds are well maintained and the restroom and shower facilities are very up to date but heavily used. Sites are closer than I like. Park has nice trails and bluffs. Bison are within the park but did not see. Rangers and staff very friendly. Would be great for overnighter. The most irritating thing about the park were the next door neighbors who let their five dogs use our campsite as an area for deification. People with pets need to be respectful of others. I have come to the conclusion that all pets should be banned from public lands.

      Tower Campground

Right on the highway, so convenient, but noisy

A parking lot style campground with nice green areas for pets. Level sites, full hookups. If you are looking for a convenient spot by Sioux Falls, this one fits the bill. Book online as staff is not in the office (or at least were not when we arrived).

    Guide to Sioux Center

Sioux Center's camping options span across the gentle rolling hills of northwest Iowa, with elevations ranging from 1,200 to 1,500 feet. Seasonal temperatures vary dramatically, with summer highs reaching 85°F and winter temperatures dropping well below freezing. The region features primarily oak-hickory woodlands alongside restored prairie areas, offering campers diverse ecosystems to explore within a 30-mile radius.

    What to do

Swimming opportunities: Sandy Hollow Park Campground features both a swimming lake and separate fishing lake, perfect for cooling off during hot Iowa summers. "Great spot with a swimming lake, fishing lake, and hiking trails through the prairie. Less than three miles from town," notes Miranda M.

Local trail connections: Take advantage of trail systems that connect campgrounds to nearby towns. Sandy Hollow provides "hiking including access to Sioux Center's trail system, shelters, lodge, archery range. Playground, canoe/kayak rentals," according to James M.

Bison viewing: Blue Mounds State Park Campground offers unique wildlife opportunities about 55 miles northwest of Sioux Center. "Park features natural prairie and a buffalo herd. Bison tours are available. Plenty of hiking trails and some cliff climbing," says Bruce P.

Water recreation: Island Park in Rock Rapids provides water-based activities for families. "Huge swimming area with slides for kids, and river with a lot of fish!!! Brand New shower houses," shares Amber P.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention the well-maintained facilities at Willow Creek Campground in Le Mars. "The shower house was exceptionally clean. The campground itself was clean and well kept," reports Cody H. Another camper adds, "The bathrooms are stupendous! Shiny floor, air conditioned and residential faucets in the showers! No button pushing!"

Quiet atmosphere: Many visitors appreciate the peaceful setting at Newton Hills Campground. "Quiet spot weekdays. Site is beautiful... Evenings very peaceful," says Sally C. Another camper notes, "Beautiful, quiet, shaded, level sites with plenty of space between."

Waterfront views: Sites with water views rank high among camper preferences. At Rivers Bend Campground, visitors enjoy "decent size spots with lakefront views at just about all of them. There is a swimming hole with a little beach and walking/bike trail."

Budget-friendly options: Dog friendly campgrounds near Sioux Center offer affordable overnight stays. Island Park charges "$15 a night for RV with electric and water, $5 for tents," according to Amber P.

    What you should know

Reservation needs: Summer weekends fill quickly at popular sites. At Rivers Bend Campground, campers note there are "tent sites that you have to walk to but they are right on the water away from all of the RV sites."

Seasonal availability: Most pet-friendly campgrounds around Sioux Center operate from April/May through mid-October. Rock Valley BiCentennial Park Campground specifically lists its season as "April 15th to October 15th."

Weather considerations: The area can experience extreme weather conditions, particularly windstorms during summer months. Prepare accordingly with proper tent stakes and rain gear.

    Tips from RVers

Site layouts: Pay attention to the organization of RV sites at each campground. At Willow Creek, they have "62 RV spots and seven tent camping sites the RV spots have a really nice level concrete pad half of them have electric and water and the other half also have a sewer hook up."

Dump station access: Note the location of sanitation facilities. One camper at Blue Mounds mentioned, "Layout for getting water and dump station is a little odd as you have to drive through the campground to get to it rather than it being on your way out."
