Municipal Park in Le Mars, Iowa runs Willow Creek Campground just beyond the city's golf course, placing it squarely within an active recreation corridor rather than a remote setting. The campground sits on a low rise between a swimming pond and Willow Creek, with the older section shaded by thick, established trees that reviewers specifically valued during summer heat. The newer beach-side section, including sites like number 42, has full hookups and level concrete pads. The City of Le Mars also rents seasonal spots, so travelers share the grounds with local residents on extended stays.
Amenities are a consistent highlight across reviews. The shower house has been renovated and includes air-conditioned bathrooms with residential-style showers, no push-button timers. Cell signal is reported as good, and the campground also furnishes WiFi. There are 62 RV spots (maximum 35 feet) and seven tent sites, with electric, water, and sewer hookups available depending on section. Hiking trails extend in multiple directions: one- and two-mile loops to the east, and a five-mile route following the river to the west and south. The campground fills on weekends, and the beach area has drawn crowds that required police response on at least one Saturday night, so campers who want less activity may prefer the older, wooded section.
"Had a fishing derby going on but was still overall quiet," notes Mindy S., suggesting the grounds can absorb events without becoming chaotic. Le Mars is the headquarters of Blue Bunny ice cream, and the town's other stops are within easy reach. Campers who want a different setup can look at Hillview County Rec Area for a more rural alternative in the region.
