Henderson Beach State Park Campground accommodates pets with full hookup sites in Destin, Florida. Campers can choose from tent sites, RV spaces, and cabins at this highly-rated state park (4.8/5) while keeping their dogs on standard 6-foot leashes. Several nearby options include Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Campground in Santa Rosa Beach and Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park in Niceville, both maintaining pet-friendly policies with dedicated walking areas. Camp On The Gulf offers dogs beach access during specific hours, with most campgrounds requiring proof of current vaccinations. The grounds are generally well-maintained with landscaped sites providing adequate space between RVs for walking pets. Many locations feature dedicated pet waste stations throughout common areas.

Fort Walton Beach's Destin West RV Resort provides a convenient base for pet owners exploring Florida's Emerald Coast beaches. The paved sites accommodate both small and large dogs with nearby walking paths, though some reviewers note the campground's proximity to busy highways requires extra caution when walking pets. Military families with pets can access additional options at Eglin AFB FamCamp and Hurlburt Field FamCamp, both offering affordable alternatives to commercial campgrounds. Most pet-friendly campgrounds in the area enforce standard rules including keeping dogs leashed at all times, cleaning up waste, and preventing excessive barking. Sites typically feature concrete pads with small grassy areas between spaces, and many campers recommend requesting spots away from main roadways for a more relaxing experience with pets.

      Pensacola RV Park

      Very clean park!

We enjoyed the appreciation that the parks shows to the military. And the park is great for pets, because it has multiple dog parks. Beautiful Oak trees surround the property. The staff was very helpful when arriving to help with parking.

Fort Pickens Campground — Gulf Islands National Seashore

      Good but not very private

We went tent camping for two nights with our pups at Fort Pickens and we really did enjoy it. The campground was nice and clean. They had nice showers and potties as well. The showers in the RV section have better shower heads btw. The beaches are gorgeous! A tip for travelers with pets, FL does not allow dogs on their beaches accept in specific "dog park" locations. Our dogs are not.. eh, normal .. so we ended up driving down to a private beach so they could enjoy the ocean. There is a lot of night life but We decided to skip that this trip. We enjoyed the beaches in the park at night and i highly recommend it! All in all we enjoyed our trip but we probably won't be back to Fort Pickens campground. The sites are very close together and we had a very nosey and drunk neighbor who really wanted to chat. We camp to get away from people, just saying. We were also bothered by RV and truck lights shining directly into our tent both nights from people driving through the campground. Not the best but we enjoyed camping at the beach.

      Raccoon River Campground

An adventurous paradise away from the ocean paradise

I have read a lot of the reviews. I think some of these people had other issues that caused them to give a bad review. Yes, this is known as a cat haven but with people who have dogs should stay in the dog parks, If they don't accept a place that cannot turn a blind eye to cats. This is an RV park and a campground and I'm not sure why people would expect more luxury than the outdoors experience. This is a beautiful getaway away from the ocean but right next door, and people would love this place if they knew the history behind it and maybe honor it a little bit more. The impact from people that don't like this place gives it a bad reputation. Why listen to someone who don't want you to know about the experience? Just want you to know what they think about it. This is a great place and there are a lot of hardworking, honest people. This is not just a campground, people are residents here and have been here a long time, some would even call it home. There's nothing wrong with anything about this place. It is a wonderful place to be.

      A Cozy Corner RV Lodge

      Quaint RV Park!

Easy check in online. FHU-some shade, level concrete pad, picnic table. Easily backed in our 40 ft Montana. Very clean bathrooms, didn’t use just looked. Washer and dryer, and nice dog park. Close to lots of stores and restaurants, 20-30 min from beaches depending on traffic. Some traffic noise, since it’s next to a main road.

      River's Edge RV Campground

      Swampy!

We arrived and everything was dry. The next morning, our site had literally turned into a pond. By the time I finished packing up to leave, I literally looked like I jumped in the river with all of my clothes on. Haha I guess that’s camping in Florida for ya. The park was nice overall. The bathrooms were okay. Full hookups and lots of trees so our service was a little spotty.

      Pelican Palms RV Park

      Easy spot off the highway.

This camp ground is growing so there was quite a bit of construction debris around, but looking past that. This spot is literally right off Hwy 10 at exit 26 making it convenient for travelers. I would not recommend this campsite for true "camping". On ground fires are not allowed and there are no trails or walking areas. There is a small dog park but it is not really a "park". The Pool looked nice, but was closed. Nice shower house with great shower pressure. Probably 50/50 on folks living there and those just stopping through. I stayed 3 nights during the week, it was very quiet. The price is great for the location close to beaches, rivers and city. Not the prettiest camp ground, but if you just want to park your rig while you hit the beach, good choice.

    Guide to Shalimar

Camping near Shalimar, Florida offers easy access to both the Choctawhatchee Bay and Gulf of Mexico beaches. The region maintains a subtropical climate with summer temperatures averaging 90°F and winter lows rarely dropping below 40°F. Most campgrounds in this area remain open year-round, with peak season running March through October when water temperatures range from 75-85°F.

    What to do

Fishing from campground piers: Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park Campground provides excellent water access with a doublewide boat ramp. "Ample access to the bayou, including a doublewide boat ramp with ample boat trailer parking. The day I was there, there were 40 plus trailers in the parking lot," notes Dale W.

Kayaking the bayou: Rent equipment directly from campgrounds to explore local waterways. "Rented a kayak from the campground with a friend. Spent most of the day exploring the bayou. Pretty sure we spotted a bald eagle but didn't have binoculars to confirm," shares Stephanie T. from Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou.

Beach walking at sunset: Henderson Beach State Park Campground offers direct beach access from the campground. "White sand beaches for $30 a night you can't beat it! Definitely recommend," writes Molley T. The beach is just a 25-minute walk from some campgrounds, with restaurants like Surf Hut accessible on foot.

Nature trails for wildlife viewing: Several campgrounds maintain walking paths through coastal dunes and forests. At Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Campground, "Good trails, coastal dunes with lakes, fishing, paddling, beach, cabins, and tent camping including Glamping!" according to James M.

    What campers like

Private beach access: Campers appreciate exclusive beach areas away from tourist crowds. "Camp located on small white sand beach. Site 50 is level with full hookups," reports James R. about Emerald Beach RV Park, which offers a private pier and beach area on the bay.

Clean shower facilities: Multiple reviews highlight exceptionally clean facilities. "The bathrooms (all of them) were well cleaned. Showers have plenty of room and I loved their washer/dryer set up too," notes Kemberley P. about Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park.

Secluded campsites: Many campgrounds offer privacy between sites despite proximity to urban areas. "The sites are luscious and private. Walking path to a beautiful beach. Very clean," says Lynn A. about Henderson Beach State Park. Some campgrounds use natural vegetation as barriers between sites.

Proximity to military bases: Eglin AFB FamCamp - Camp Robbins provides affordable options for eligible service members. "Be aware however Camp Robbins is located just south of Eglins airfield so if roaring and screaming fighter jets first thing in the morning is not for you scratch this camp off your list," advises lowrent0321.

    What you should know

Reservation difficulty: Popular dog-friendly campgrounds near Shalimar require advance booking. "Reservations here are extremely hard to get, especially on short notice. I highly recommend staying here if an opportunity presents itself," warns Tony C. about Henderson Beach State Park.

Traffic concerns: Highway 98 presents challenges for campers. One reviewer notes The Hideaway Retreat "could be challenging to find as the traffic can be fierce on 98 and the sign is small but I guess that's what makes it a hideaway!" Crossing busy roads can be difficult with pets.

Site sizes vary significantly: The Hideaway Retreat receives mixed reviews regarding space. "The sites are VERY small - you are packed in like sardines - do not expect any privacy whatsoever," cautions Gypsy G.

Beach conditions change seasonally: Hurricane damage affects some beaches. "The pier advertised is destroyed from the hurricane last year and repairs have not begun on it nor the sea wall, which does take away from the beach experience," notes Allyse from The Hideaway Retreat.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Navarre Beach Camping Resort provides structured children's programs. "The week we were there they had a different activity for the kids each day. They had painting sand dollars, bubba the alligator show, face painting and even an Easter egg hunt," shares Monica G.

Beach proximity considerations: Some pet-friendly campgrounds near Shalimar are walking distance to beaches, while others require driving. "You are just a few blocks from the beautiful white sand beaches and emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico," explains Nancy W. about Geronimo RV Beach Resort.

Park facilities: Many campgrounds offer playgrounds and recreational areas. "They have basketball courts, corn hole, a playground even pool tables," according to Monica G. at Navarre Beach Camping Resort, making it ideal for families with different aged children.

Safety features: Gated access provides security at several locations. "Park rangers, gated entry after dark, and campground hosts make this park safe and enjoyable for families. Rules are strictly enforced," reports Kim B. about Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park.

    Tips from RVers

Parking assistance: Staff at many campgrounds help with challenging sites. "The staff is super helpful helping you to park because the spaces are tight," mentions Monica G. from Navarre Beach Camping Resort.

Vehicle limits: Some campgrounds restrict additional vehicles. At Geronimo RV Resort, "they will only allow you an RV+ another vehicle, but if you come packing a golf cart, motorcycle or even a boat, then they will charge you for two vehicles," warns Stuart K.

Site selection strategy: Request specific sites when booking. "If you are tent camping DO NOT let them put you in a site near the highway - the car noise is VERY loud & you will not sleep," advises Gypsy G. about The Hideaway Retreat.

Hookup placement: Check utility locations before selecting sites. "Sewer, water & electric were all at front of site, so had to pull into access road to dump," notes George R. about one campground, highlighting the importance of confirming hookup positions.
