Pine Log State Forest, managed by the Florida Forest Service, holds a range of camping options spread across its mixed hardwood and pine terrain, and Sand Pond Campground sits at the heart of it. The developed sites here are level and paved, with full hookups including 50-amp electric, water, and sewer, plus a dump station on-site. Most sites have direct views of Sand Pond itself. As Daylin R. put it, "almost all sites were water front," with pine trees providing enough canopy to make hammock setups practical across much of the campground.
The two-mile Campground Trail winds along Cyprus Pond, through the mixed forest, and around Sand Pond, making it accessible for most fitness levels. Fishing access is available from a dock on the pond. The campground also connects to biking trails within the forest. Reviewers note "a lot of shade and a couple fishing spots," which gives the site a low-key, unplugged feel without stripping out the basic comforts that make multi-night stays workable.
Reaching the campground requires about a mile of dirt road off Highway 79, which runs north from Interstate 10 at exit 112. The road is generally well-maintained, though recent tree removal has made maneuvering larger rigs easier. The 50-foot RV length limit accommodates most setups, though some sites run tight for big rigs. A bathhouse with showers is on-site; cleanliness has been inconsistent across reviews, so managing expectations there is reasonable. The campground has no dedicated enforcement presence after hours, which has occasionally led to neighbor issues.
Reservations are available and recommended. At $22 per night with full hookups, the campground draws families, RV travelers, and tent campers alike. Primitive sites with river views are also available within the forest at Pine Log State Forest Primitive Campsites, and group sites can be found at Sand Pond Group Camp — Pine Log State Forest and Baptism Hole Group Camp — Pine Log State Forest nearby.
Description
The Sand Pond Campground can be found at the Pine Log State Forest Recreation Area. All sites are fully equipped with electric and water hook-ups. Restrooms with showers and a sanitary dumping station are located on-site. The Sand Pond Group Camp is available for youth groups. There are two small picnic pavilion areas, fire rings and access to water. The area is near the restroom and shower facilities but separate from other camping. Primitive campsites are available and are dispersed along Pine Log Creek. Primitive campers are not entitled to use of restrooms or shower facilities. A gate combination is required to access the primitive campsites. To make reservations and receive the combination to the locked gate for the primitive campsites, visit Reserve America.
