    Overview

Spillway Campground is perched along the South Platte River near the base of the dam of Eleven Mile Reservoir. Adventurists and families alike will find things to do here. Birding is excellent, as is hiking. Rock climbers enjoy the solid rocky cliffs of the canyon and fly fishermen find abundant catches in the river.

    Recreation

Hike the Overlook Trail for breathtaking views of Eleven Mile Canyon and Reservoir. Occasionally, Golden Eagles can be viewed nesting in the nearby granite cliffs and crags. Springtime brings higher chances of spotting Bald Eagles. Visitors enjoy fishing by shore or canoe. Rainbow and brown trout, kokanee salmon and pike are among the species anglers are likely to find.

    Natural Features

The campground, at altitude 8,500 feet, is located at the edge of Eleven Mile Canyon, furthest from the canyon entrance. Some campsites are shaded by scattered spruce and ponderosa pine. Spillway is the closest campground to the Eleven Mile Reservoir, which spans 3,405 surface acres and 5 miles in length. Eleven Mile Canyon was cut by the South Platte River and is bordered by polished gray granite cliffs.

    Nearby Attractions

Visitors enjoy the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, one of the richest and most diverse fossil deposits in the world. Petrified redwood stumps up to 14 feet wide and thousands of detailed fossils of insects and plants reveal the story of a very different, prehistoric Colorado.

    Great RV Park w/ Amenities

Super nice park with great amenities, especially when your RV is winterized. Two indoor hot tubs and a pool, private showers & changing rooms, and laundry. Just wish there was a dish washing station. Multiple segments of the Colorado trail are accessible right from the park.

Lovely Staff, Nice place to recouo

I ended up here on accident but loved my stay. Every staff member was so helpful and nice. Sites are close together and it is a bit pricy for an RV ($92 per night). This was my first time at a KOA, I enjoyed having all of the services right there. They fill propane tanls, air for tires, nice hot shower, laundry and a hot tub.

    Last Minute

We had to change plans last minute and arrive here on short notice. They had sites to accommodate us and they were very welcoming. This was hands down the nicest privately owned rv park/campground we have ever stayed at! The bathroom suites have recently been remodeled and they are so nice! Best shower of our 10 day road trip. Nice laundry facilities, community rec room, hot tub, and even a hiking trail to the top of the mountain. Highly recommend.

    Pizza and Pancakes! :D

This KOA campground was impressive to me. My bf and I arrived too late to use the hot tub but the showers were clean and spacious. The campground offered pizza and wing delivery! They also offered an all you can eat pancake breakfast for $3 in the morning. Overall we enjoyed our stay, and the women working the main desk were very informative and helpful.

The view from some of the nearby trails were amazing as well, we were lucky enough to enjoy the beautiful day on the trails.

    Denver West-Central City KOA

    Nicest KOA we've been to

And in fact I believe they were KOA of the year 2023 or 2024. More expensive than we're used to, but has nice amenities. Sites level with concrete pads, fairly large. Some space between with trees. Nice metal patio furniture provided at each site(chairs, table, fire pit). Has decent showers, hot tubs, and off leash dog park. Inexpensive pancake breakfast and pizza/wings to your site are available, also an onsite store. Kind of at the top of a rise, so good views but also kind of chilly for July (60s/40s). Massive thunderstorms with hail and heavy rain two evengings (CO mountains tend to get afternoon t-storms). Communicate via text to let you know about goings on. Good radio station out of Idaho Springs KYGT 102.7 and 103.9

Full Service Glamping close to Breck

Let's be clear - this is not camping. This is renting a driveway with access to power, water, sewer, internet, and cable. It is EXPENSIVE. It's also the only place near Breckenridge that offers all of these amenities.

The clubhouse offers a heated pool and hot tub, arcade, business center, locker rooms, laundry ($2 per wash / $1.75 to dry), and owners lounge. There are tennis/pickleball courts and a community fire pit in the center of the resort that hosted movie night during our stay.

No complaints about this place other than the fact that no one answered the phone at the office during our stay. The good news is that they email the gate code and wifi password ahead of time, so we were able to find our way to the site on our own.

    Rocky Mtn High

Your up at 8890’ at this KOA. Wind your way up a nice but steep four lane road to this campground! We stayed in a big rig stop. Concrete slab, full hook ups. Was below freezing at night so we didn’t leave the water connected at night but the days were a pleasant 60-65 but the wind did come up several days and it was chilly. Very nice new composite patio furniture and fire pit and gas grill to use! The areas in between spaces have large enough rocks to cause some tripping issues while hooking up. Watch your step.

Nice bathrooms two large hot tubs and 6 washing machines and dryers @ $2 a load for each.

Nice staff and gift shop with beer and liquor and most needs. They had just opened for the season and have pizza available but we didn’t try it!

If you like to gamble there are a plethora of casino s just a few miles down the valley in Central City.

West side Denver approx 25 miles on I-70

    A-Lodge-Denver

The Perfect Home Base In Boulder Canyon

The A-Lodge just outside of Boulder is the ultimate adventure home base. Developed in 2015 from an old motel property along a beautiful, babbling creek in the heart of Boulder Canyon, the current owners have added tent campsites, an RV parking area, a youth hostel, on-site cafe with tap room and canned wine, patio with communal fire pit, and an amazing hot tub in a little gazebo.

There are trails on site that connect to the larger Betasso Trail Network, a small slackline park, daily happy hour specials, bottle fill stations, and snacks, drinks, and a few basics available for sale on site. On top of all that, it's a cannabis-friendly campground (though you are asked to keep your puffing and passing to designated smoking areas outside). There's a beautiful bridge surrounded by twinkle lights coating the trees like vines and you fall asleep to the sound of the creek. You're just twenty minutes (if that) outside Boulder, and only an hour from Rocky Mountains National Park/Estes Park and two from Mt. Evans.

Mountain biking and hiking are popular in the area, as well as angling. A-Lodge offers guided expeditions, yoga classes, campervan rentals, etc. and they are very sweet and accommodating hosts. Whatever you're hoping to get into in the area, they'll help you put it together. This place was just as accommodating and comfortable for a solo adventurer like myself as it was for the several families also staying there with small children. Eat up at the continental breakfast included in your stay— there's yogurt, coffee, oatmeal, tea, and a waffle maker.

    Colorado Springs KOA

Looks great for kids unless you look closer

What a great looking KOA with a water park and tons of amenitites and activities! Unfortunately the outwards looks can be deceptive. Up close almost everything was broken and undermaintained. Wifi worked for a few hours our first day, never working again. The splash pad and pool were filthy with brown water collecting in low points and so many things floating in it and none NONE of the accessory interactive features like the water shooters or fun parts for little kids. The hot tub was closed. The jump pad had more than half of the tie down points disconnected, but was open for use most of the time. The bubbles platform was closed and none of the horshoe, cornhole, or other areas had their items out for use. Occasionally staff would come out and throw 2 liter bottles of soda pop at the kids, which was both unhealthy and kind of bizarre. They offered games and prizes inside their recration hall, which I think we can just call a Covid transfer room full of unvaccinated kids from hotspot states.

The rv pad was actually rather nice with a good patch of weeds between campsites, table, and working water, power, and sewer hookups.

    Close quarters

We have stayed here several times in our minivan and even got a cabin several years ago. Very clean, great power and you can even get 5G mobile service on T-Mobile most of the time in a lot of areas around the park. Especially in the RV parking area of Reverend's Ridge. Nice spacious shower house bathroom Keep in mind though that the smaller bathrooms around the RV parking loops are only.for when the electricity is out. So you'll need to head to the shower house if needed. My only real complaint is that the sites and cabins are very very close together and can be a bit uncomfortable if your trying to "get away" It's usually completely lights out and silent about 30min after the sun goes completely down.

    Tons of camping options

The views, wildlife, and geology in the park are astounding---add to that the yellow aspens in the fall and you have classic Colorado camping not far from Denver. There are a lot of different options: typical state park camp sites, cabins, and a yurt, as well as backpacking/backcountry sites. We did the yurt in the winter and it was amazing, but make sure you have a jeep (or similar) and bring everything you need.

    Grabbing a quick cabin

Me along with four other friends spent several days tent camping around the Colorado Springs area. On our last night of travel, our camping plans fell through and we needed to find a convenient place late at night to rest. We ended up at the KOA and took advantage of one of their adorable little cabins. All five of us spent the night, actually pretty comfortably, and got a great night's sleep. All and all a very positive experience at the KOA's wonderful, clean facilities.

One of my favorites for local camping

This is a very popular Colorado State Park and campground for alot of reasons! The park has campsites for all sizes, shapes and styles of campers, trailers, tents and has cabins and yurts to rent as well. I like loop B for the pull throughs and nice spacing between sites. Loop D is a favorite as well , it’s close to the restrooms with showers and laundry. The park fills up quickly over the summer weekends ( reservations required) but I check for cancellations ... you never know or try for weekdays if you can.
