Typically we try for the more out of the way campgrounds or dispersed camping, but with a brand new trailer, we needed a bit more stability. Base Camp offered electric hook ups for us, a stocked store, and they lent us an extension cord when we realized we left it at home.
Had this been summer, I would expect it to be pretty tight quarters, and you are pretty close to a decently trafficked road, and Base Camp doubles as a gas station and propane fill (again, great if you need it while you're staying there), so I wouldn't call it private.
Kind folks and a great first night.
We stopped in after an afternoon of driving. The sites were level and very clean, hookups were easy (nice threaded, tidy black/grey water) , lots of Aspen trees between the sites, but still a bit close together. It was a very quiet Monday evening towards the end of the season when we were there, so the spacing was okay. I can see that the sites would be very close together if the property was full.
It is really nice that they keep the long term sites on the other side of the building. The highway noise wasn’t bad.
Our nine year old really liked the playground area.
The bathrooms were very clean and recently remodeled, but require coins if you were going to shower.
My family of four stayed in a cabin. It’s basic and the price and staff were great. I am a new camper but the cabins seemed exceptionally close together.
This campground is great in that the hookups work, the sites were level and the access to Golden Gate Canyon State Park was amazing.
However, the campground is right on a busy road into the State Park so road noise is almost constant. There is a nice little store and the showers/bathrooms are well maintained.
Bring quarters for the showers-they are coin operated.
This weekend our adventures landed us in Blackhawk, CO. We pitched our tents at Base camp at Golden Gate Canyon and unplugged for awhile(literally there was no cell service). It was nice to unwind and relax for a bit between the stress and long hours of work and school. We were joined by some close friends and our dogs, which made for more eventful and unforgettable memories. We ventured off on Saturday to go hike up the side of the mountain, but other that we didn’t do too much besides sit around the campfire, grill some food, have a couple drinks and laughs. If given the chance we highly suggest unplugging for the weekend and remember, stay adventurous!
Small campground with tent sites, RV sites, and cabins. Main building has camp store with a variety of items available for purchase. Nice bathrooms including showers available.
