Campfire Ranch on the Taylor

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Reservations are available at Campfire Ranch on the Taylor, a tent-only private campground in Almont, Colorado, with sites running $70 per night. Walk-in access keeps RVs out entirely, which reviewers consistently flag as a notable feature. The campground sits in open terrain near the Taylor River, and the on-site host draws repeated praise for pointing campers toward local activities and lending gear as needed.

Cleanliness is one of the most frequently mentioned qualities across reviews, particularly the restrooms and the well water. Brent C. describes it as "the most thoughtful, scenic, and clean campground I've ever visited," and several others echo that the facilities are well-maintained. Firewood is included without limit, which campers who prioritize fire time will appreciate. Mountain biking trails are nearby, boating on Taylor Lake comes up in multiple reviews, and the climbing routes around Doctor Park are within reach for those looking to stay active.

Crested Butte sits close enough for a dinner run or a few hours exploring town, and the host regularly suggests it along with other day trips like Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Amenities include drinking water, showers, WiFi, picnic tables, and pet-friendly policies. Campers who want to compare camping near Almont or prefer dispersed sites on public land can look at Radio Tower Road Dispersed — Gunnison NF to the north, while Three Rivers Resort & Outfitting to the southwest offers a resort-style alternative.

Great site but limited privacy

This is a tent only site but it was great.  There is a host on-site who is very helpful.  The restrooms are very clean.  The tent sites are great and there is unlimited firewood.  We went into Crested Butte to eat one night and we drove over to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison as well.  Both were suggestions from our host.  We also went boating on Taylor lake.

Perhaps the best campground

I hate to spoil this place with a great review, knowing it will make it more difficult to book here in the future. However, this may be the most thoughtful, scenic, and clean campground I’ve ever visited. With fresh, cold and clean mountain water for drinking!

Amazing location and sites

Great time for a first time camper or an experienced camper. Host will help you with any gear you need, give directions to any activities you want to do, and there’s no RVs. Climbing routes all around and Doctor Park is right there! Can’t beat it!

Super Easy - Great surroundings

I had the pleasure of going with a group of 8 and we had 1 site and become good friends with our neighbors by the end of it. Unlimited firewood for us since we love fires and the mountain biking trails are legit! We even had time to go into town, Crested Butte, and hang out for a few hours before heading back to camp. The clean bathroom is super nice to have along with that well-water. Oh, and it was nice to wake up and have hot coffee handy!
