Only one camp site

Came to see if there were multiple sites to camp, but only to find there was one spot. Someone had already taken it so I was left wondering if that’s something that could be communicated.

Jack’s Cabin Pass/Almont Triangle

Stayed at the first site off the dirt road through the parking area to the left of the main dirt road. High clearance needed for sure; but made it up the road in a stock Subaru Forester. Camp ring. Leave no trace; pack it in, pack it out. No amenities. Less than 30 minutes to Crested Butte.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Jack's Cabin Pass suitable for RVs or only tent camping?

Jack's Cabin Pass is not suitable for RVs. This primitive camping area is best for tent campers with high-clearance vehicles. The dirt access road requires vehicles like a Subaru Forester or similar to navigate safely. There are no RV hookups, dump stations, or dedicated parking pads that would accommodate larger vehicles.

Do I need a high-clearance vehicle to access Jack's Cabin Pass?

Yes, a high-clearance vehicle is necessary to access Jack's Cabin Pass. While a stock Subaru Forester can make the journey, standard passenger cars are not recommended for the dirt road. The access requires navigating through a parking area to the left of the main dirt road.

How many campsites are available at Jack's Cabin Pass?

There is only one campsite available at Jack's Cabin Pass. This limited availability means it operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so having a backup camping option is strongly recommended, especially during peak seasons.

What amenities are available at Jack's Cabin Pass?

Jack's Cabin Pass offers no amenities. This is a primitive campsite with only a fire ring. There is no water, no restrooms, no trash service, and no other facilities. Campers need to be fully self-sufficient and practice leave-no-trace principles by packing out all waste and belongings.

How far is Jack's Cabin Pass from Crested Butte?

Jack's Cabin Pass is less than 30 minutes from Crested Butte. This relatively close proximity makes it a good option for those wanting to explore the Crested Butte area while enjoying a more remote camping experience.

Is Jack's Cabin Pass good for first-time campers?

Jack's Cabin Pass is not ideal for first-time campers due to its primitive nature, challenging access, and lack of amenities. The site requires experience with dispersed camping, leave-no-trace principles, and self-sufficiency. Beginners would be better served at developed campgrounds with facilities and easier access.
