North Bank Campground

North Bank Campground, near Almont, Colorado, is a fantastic spot for those looking to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying the soothing sounds of the Taylor River. With sites right by the water, it’s a prime location for both tent and RV camping, though you won’t find any electric hookups here.

The campground is known for its beautiful vegetation and easy access to hiking trails, making it a great base for outdoor adventures. Visitors rave about the river access, with one camper noting, “The river access was wonderful and the shade was great for the July heat.” You can expect a friendly vibe, with many campers appreciating the community atmosphere, especially during peak seasons.

While the facilities are basic—think no showers and limited amenities—there are fire pits and toilets available. Some campers have mentioned that the bathrooms could use a little TLC, but hey, it’s camping! The surrounding area is also popular for mountain biking, with the Doctor Park trailhead right at your doorstep.

If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat with plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, and relaxing by the river, North Bank Campground is a solid choice. Just remember to snag your spot early, especially during busy weekends like the wildflower festival in Crested Butte.

North Bank Taylor River

First come, first serve site. Great location right on the river. Picnic table and fire pit at site. Easy pulloff for parking vehicles. $18 a night. Great vegetation, and a hiking trail at end of campground area. The river access was wonderful and the shade was great for the July heat. A very enjoyable location!

Very nice stay

Wife and I stayed 3 nights here. Very nice. A bit crowded for our style but at peak season and during the wildflower festival in Crested Butte we had no complaints. Came in on a Thursday afternoon and was able to grab the last spot, site #2.

Great site right by the river

Campsites are close together but the sound of the river drowns out any noise. Great river access! Overall wonderful place!

Yay!!!

Loved this campground. We got so lucky on the Friday of Labor Day weekend and got a spot right in the river! Camp host was great! Bathrooms stink bad, but what can you expect I guess. A lot of mountain bikers but that area is ideal for the sport. We had no issues and and everyone was so friendly. I can’t wait to go back.

Solid overnight stop over or HQ for area

Decent campground with about a quarter of it's roughly 15 sites along the west side of the Taylor river. It is the only one of the several campgrounds along this stretch on the west side meaning the highway is on the other side of the river so you don't hear it as strongly. (But a lot of the traffic is big campers making big noise. The cars are mostly silent.) (Rosy campground is between the highway and river so it's also a quieter option.) Creekside sites are sloped but with some flat tent spots at the creek. There are also some attractive sites at the base of bouldered cliffs within the trees next to the doctor park trailhead. Fire pits and tables for each site but no bear boxes. Other non creek side sites are at base of beautiful reddish rock cliffs about 70 get tall to the west but with neighbors surrounding you. Mellow admin so far as we could tell with 18$ pricing. Mix of tent and small RV roughly spaced 50' apart at parking spot. We arrived around 4pm Monday in mid July and most every other site at most every other nearby campground was reserved(months ago we were told) even though we thought most of the other campgrounds were less attractive for camping (tent). Every campground along this creek is also near the road noise as the valley is quite narrow...a few hundred yards at most i guess). So being next to creek masks the sounds. Our site #6 was riverside and great... We comfortably slept inches from the creek believing the river flow, which is controlled by a dam and reservoir upstream, Would not rise. The vegetation reveals the river had not risen for years at least.

For us rustic campers, this was the nicest option (including the walk-in tent sites of granite) that we found along this stretch... And we visited them all.

nice little campground

stayed here over the 3rd and 4th of July. big shady site, plenty of trees for hammocks and flat spots for tents. nice little river with trail running along the edge of the campground. also start of doctor park bike trail (23 mile loop) so lots of bike traffic. fun trail to hike or trail run as well. HUGE rocks to climb and work your way to the top of a mountain if you wanted, or just fun to boulder on. very quiet after dark. really enjoyed our stay.

Safe and Convenient Spot

This is my go-to spot when I'm approaching Crested Butte from the front range on a Friday. It's located on gorgeous Taylor River, literally sits on the mountain bike trailhead for Doctor's Park, and is about 20 minutes south of the Butte. If you're camping alone, it's nice to have a park ranger nearby – and these ones are always nice.
