Canyons and Creeks

Beautiful campground with a creek nearby. We heard very little traffic on the road next to our site. Hummingbirds and canyon views galore!

Beautiful and well spaced sites

This is a review for the actual campground. As another review mentioned, there are dispersed sites up the road and many are nice but I stayed at the campground. There is a stream on one side of the campground and most of the sites are on that side of the loop. The sound is wonderful to sleep to. On the other side of the loop is where I stayed because the view was incredible. The camp host was great, everything was clean and well cared for and there was plenty of space between the sites so it didn't feel cramped. This is a first come first served campground.

Perfect Dispersed Camping

This has been one of my favorite camping spots ever. Once you pass the Spring Creek Campground you will come up on a BLM sign and grom there until you can't drive anymore you can camp. All the way up and past the lake. I camped near the front because I got there late and had to find a spot quick before dark.

You are basically camping in the bottom of a canyon next to a fast flowing creek that is so peaceful. The canyon seems to only be about 150ft wide and shoots straight up on both sides. No cell service of any kind but that was honestly kinda nice to get away.

STARS STARS STARS at night... my goodness. Highly recommended. Only 30 minutes to Crested Butte too!

I camped at the spot below but I was right next to the road. You can continue up the road until you find the perfect spot. Even out in the open or in the valley at the top.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Spring Creek Campground located in Colorado?

Spring Creek Campground is located near Almont, Colorado. The campground is situated along a stream in a scenic canyon area, offering beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. The location provides a peaceful setting with the soothing sounds of flowing water from the nearby creek. The campground is accessible by road, though specific mileage from major highways or towns would need to be verified with the managing agency for precise directions.

What amenities are available at Spring Creek Campground in Almont?

Spring Creek Campground features a loop layout with most sites positioned alongside a stream, providing soothing water sounds for campers. The campground offers scenic canyon views and is frequented by hummingbirds, enhancing the natural experience. While specific facilities aren't detailed, the campground appears to be a more natural setting rather than a highly developed one. For complete information about restrooms, water availability, fire rings, tables, or other amenities, contact the campground management directly before your visit.

How does Spring Creek Campground compare to camping at Spring Creek Reservoir?

Spring Creek Campground offers a creek-side camping experience with sites arranged in a loop formation, providing the peaceful sound of flowing water and canyon views. In contrast, Spring Creek Reservoir camping appears to be part of the dispersed camping area that extends beyond the main campground. The reservoir area likely offers lakeside views and potentially more seclusion than the established campground. While the campground provides a more structured experience, the reservoir area would appeal to those seeking a more remote setting with direct water access for fishing or other activities.

Is dispersed camping allowed at Spring Creek in Colorado?

Yes, dispersed camping is allowed in the Spring Creek area. Beyond the established Spring Creek Campground, there's BLM land where dispersed camping is permitted. These dispersed sites extend from the BLM sign all the way up past the lake. Campers can set up at various points along this route until the road ends. The dispersed sites offer a more primitive camping experience while still providing access to the beautiful surroundings of the Spring Creek area.
