Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Hensley Lake

This would be a great place if it was clean. Lots of junky trailers with junk & garbage. No dog park area, no doggie bags. On positive side, staff is friendly & sites are roomy.

Absolutely loved it here minus them saying they’re were rats with diseases. Watch out with your pets. Otherwise it was an absolutely gorgeous place

Not even come here if you don’t have a boat or jet sky... Barely any places to hang out by the water... Not kids or pets friendly

Sites are moderate sized with bear locker, picnic table and fire pit. Campground has flushing toilets, sinks. Campground is close to curry village where showers, pool, market and pizza are available. Campground is near happy isles, where the trailheads for vernal falls, Nevada falls and half dome begin. Great camping spot to see Yosemite valley! Also is pet friendly.

Neat spot just outside Yosemite NP. The campground host was very nice and the cold stream nearby was perfect to cool down after hiking in the park.

A park tour bus stop was a mile south of the campground and can take you all through the park or drop you off and pick you up on the way back at the end of the day.

The camp sites were roomy with plenty of green and trees between sites.

Pet friendly.

On the east side of Yosemite Valley, it offers a convenient spot to rest after exploring and enjoying all the activities the area has to offer. Is crowded, but each spot is equipped with fire ring, food storage, picnic table, parking spot and flat, shaded spots for your tent.

Advantages: car camping, good for families, pets are allowed, bathroom and potable water nearby. Shuttle bus is pretty close too.

Disadvantages: Crowded, have to book a lot of time in advanced, distance between campsites is short.

We had the pleasure of staying with Jason and his family at the Shooting Star Sanctuary. Jason was kind and super helpful since the moment we contacted him.

As far as amenities go: There is Wi-Fi throughout the property which is free to use. The bathroom and shower inside the house are available at all times. Jason has also fitted a full kitchen outside on his porch which happens to have a gorgeous view for watching the sunrise/sunset.

Extras: For starters, the friendliest family you’re ever gonna meet at a campground. There are plenty of farm animals in the sanctuary which Jason lets you feed and play around with. A bunch of friendly cats and kittens.

Basically, come here. It’s a great time and totally worth the money!

Great place and experience. Bathroom are the best I’ve seen by far. Large dog run which was amazing. Personal just a bit expensive 100 ish for a rv spot with 30 amp an water.

Easy parking & plenty of space to spread out. Dog friendly! Bathrooms are clean. super close to the Half Dome and Vernal waterfall trailheads.

Stayed here with wife, two friends, and dog. Great selection of sites, overlooking pond, lots of farm animals, and very friendly and courteous host. Not too long a drive to Yosemite Valley also!

We stayed for one night but wish we could have stayed longer. The campground is not on the water but is close enough. Very quiet and enjoyable. Enjoyed hiking around the area. Our dogs loved the water. Would definitely stay again. Camp hosts were very friendly and helpful.

Visited Black Rock last weekend with our two dogs. Had great luck fishing and there were only 2 other camping groups out there as well, very peaceful and quiet. If camping near the water, be cautious as water rises quite a bit at night.

Camp Edison is a great campground, super clean! Shaver Lake is so beautiful! We try to get a campsite next to the water. We also reserve a boat so we can explore the lake. We went for the first time a couple years ago and it is now an annual trip that we plan on taking for life, it's that fun! Great for family and friends. Bring the dogs. Enjoy!

We stayed in sites 37 & 38. These two weren’t ideal for group camping as there was quite a bit of brush in between, but 39 is much closer and cleared out so 38 & 39 would have been better. They were still nice campsites though with flat spots for tents. Lots of tall beautiful trees.

I liked that our spots were on the outskirts as we didn’t have anyone else too close to us. Driving through the campground it looked like some of the other spots were right on top of each other.

There was also a 2-stall bathroom with flushing toilets near by. It was well kept and did not smell.

There is no water access close to the campground. You can go across the road and down a small hill but it wasn’t a beach or anything. Kind of a rocky shore. There are of course spots along the lake you can find. You’ll just have to drive and look for something.

We didn’t experience any nighttime wildlife visitors nor did we see any snakes. Our dog had to stay on leash which was best anyways as there were many people walking their dogs throughout the campground. We had the camp host stop by to check in but otherwise wasn’t too bothersome.

This is a working animal sanctuary with horses, chickens, ducks, dogs, humans. etc. 

Amazing outdoor shower has grapes and herbs growing in it. Laundry facilities and kitchen available in a welcoming community area. 

I love it so much, I am volunteering my time to do permaculture projects to help them grow. And, I will keep coming back as often as I can.

We came upon this place super last minute when some reservations fell through and ended up loving that we stayed here instead! Jason was a very friendly host and let us explore the property with our dog. It was so beautiful, and had very private campsites as well. We felt safe and cared for by the host. Not only is it a great stay but it comes with an experience! We watched sheep roam, held goats, fed pigs, and played with some kittens. We will definitely be returning. Highly recommend for a weekend retreat or a close stay to Yosemite!

While this campground was closed in July due to the same fire that threatened Yosemite, the flames never reached within probably 15+ miles of this location, and remains safe now that the fire has been contained.

This campground is found a reasonable distance up in the Forest, and as such, offers a great deal of privacy. Individual sites are quite spread out; the only "service" is a vault toilet. It's a very minimalist campground, but the views nearby are worth it. And Whisky Falls itself, perhaps a mile away, is just utterly stunning.

Dogs are allowed, but definitely check fire restrictions and closures before traveling this way.
