Haw Creek Falls Camping near Ozone permits pets at its primitive sites with vault toilets and creek access. The campground features 9 first-come, first-served sites along a loop, situated adjacent to a waterfall that creates an ideal swimming hole for cooling off during hot summer months. Campers must bring their own drinking water as the on-site pump is unreliable. Dogs can wade in the shallow creek areas while leashed, and the spacious sites provide adequate room for pets to move around within their owner's campsite. White Rock Mountain Recreation Area and Byrd's Adventure Center also welcome pets, with both offering more developed facilities including electric hookups. The vault toilets at Haw Creek can become quite unpleasant during peak season when visitor traffic increases.

Several hiking trails accommodate leashed dogs in the surrounding Ozark National Forest, including the trailhead for Pam's Grotto located directly across from Haw Creek Falls Campground. The nearby Ozark Highlands Trail provides extended hiking opportunities with pets. Most campers report minimal cell service throughout the area, requiring at least a 30-minute drive to reach coverage—useful information for those needing emergency veterinary contact information. Sites at Haw Creek cost $10 per night, though some visitors report finding it without payment collection stations. During summer months, the swimming areas become popular day-use spots, increasing traffic and occasionally resulting in trash problems despite the otherwise natural setting. Pack extra water for pets as summer temperatures can rise significantly in this region.

      Outdoor Living Center RV Park

Cool place on some hot days

Spent three nights. Called for reservations, very receptive owners no problems getting in. I was running late due to the distance. They called to check on us and left instructions in a box at the office with site number, WiFi, bath codes. Again very nice owners. Went in the next morning to settle bill. Office is stocked with a nice assortment of things that an RV owner might need for minor repairs. Camp site was pretty level, spacing is typical for a campsite built some years ago, but we had a site on the end so we didn’t feel too close to anyone. Owners have only had the campground for two years. Was told the water connections were their next priority. Connections are a little inconvenient due to being under ground level, but no problem connecting my water filter for my 5th wheel. Dog park was a short walk away, was clean. Campground was clean, dumpsters accessible for trash and area clean around them. We would be happy to stay there again.

      Long Pool Recreation Area

      Swimming hole perfection

Tent campers have the better camping loop at this campground, closer to the water, nicer sites, most with plenty of trees for shade. You can drive up to the less attractive and less conveniently located RV loop to use the showers, if you need them. Some campsites are just a football-field distance from the rocky swim beach, while others sit either nestled in the woods or overlooking the creek from above on a small bluff. The big draw is the charming swimming area with its imposing trio of rocks that swimmers love to jump off of. Pets are not permitted around or in the water, so we prefer to leave our dog at home when visiting here. Hiking from the campground is terrific, too, particularly when the water is flowing to make waterfalls. Long Pool is a must-visit camping destination for Arkansas residents.

Petit Jean State Park — Petit Jean State Park

      National Park Worthy State Park

We decided on Petit Jean State Park to be our first Arkansas camping experience and it did not disappoint! The area in and surrounding the park is absolutely stunning with amazing hiking opportunities. Waterfalls, rock outcroppings, flora and fauna… it’s all here! The site was surrounded by hardwood and pines and very private. Extremely pet friendly as well. We highly recommended staying here!

Hog Valley RV & Treehouse Resort

Nice spot - Lots of amenities

Hog Valley RV Park is a solid place to stay, especially for families. The amenities are nice, particularly if you have children, with parks, basketball courts, and pickleball courts available. The two pools were closed for the season during our stay, so keep that in mind depending on when you visit.

The front staff was very welcoming and even escorted us to our spot, which was a nice touch. The park was quiet at night, and the sites were level with full hookups, which made setup easy. There are also plenty of spots available throughout the park.

A few downsides kept it from being a 5-star stay. The grass was extremely damp, and our dogs got soaked just from laying down. There is also only one trash area, located near the front entrance, which is pretty far from many of the sites. The dog parks were just average, possibly a little below average.

Overall, it was a good stay with great family-friendly amenities and friendly staff. I’d recommend it, especially for families, but there are a few areas that could be improved.

    Guide to Ozone

The Ozark National Forest surrounding Ozone, Arkansas sits at elevations between 1,500 and 2,500 feet, creating distinct temperature patterns that affect camping conditions. Summer temperatures typically range from 75-95°F during day and 55-75°F at night, with higher elevations offering slightly cooler relief. The forest's karst topography creates numerous caves, bluffs, and rock formations that attract geologists and casual explorers alike.

    What to do

Hiking to waterfalls: 1-3 miles round trip. Several trails near Haw Creek Falls Camping lead to scenic waterfalls. "Pam's Grotto was my favorite," notes Lacee G., who recommends exploring nearby trails during your stay. These shorter hikes typically take 1-2 hours and range from easy to moderate difficulty.

Rock formations exploration: 30-minute drive. The area contains multiple accessible rock formations. At Morgan Mtn Rd/Spy Rock Dispersed, "Spy Rock overlook is down the road and the view is spectacular. There are also nearby waterfalls to hike to," according to AMY A. Most rock formations require short hikes of less than a mile from parking areas.

River activities: All-day option. The Mulberry River provides swimming, kayaking and fishing opportunities. "The Mulberry river is gorgeous blue water. Fishing is allowed too," states Shona H. about Redding Campground. Most river access points have minimal facilities, so bring your own equipment and supplies.

    What campers like

Secluded forest sites: Free camping option. Redding Campground offers a peaceful natural setting away from crowds. "Camp spots are nicely spaced out. Water available. No electric. Had cell service for the most part," explains Suzsan M. The campground remains open year-round with varying usage patterns based on season.

Accessible swimming holes: Summer relief. Multiple campgrounds feature natural swimming areas. At Redding Campground, "The Mulberry River is one of my favorite rivers I have kayaked and this campsite offers a great take out spot," says Suzsan M. Most swimming areas lack lifeguards or formal facilities, so exercise appropriate caution.

Wildlife viewing: Dawn and dusk optimal. The forests host diverse wildlife including deer, armadillos, and occasionally black bears. "We saw a lot of deer in the forest right next to our site and in the field next over," reports Samantha W. about Steel Creek Campground. Morning and evening provide best viewing opportunities.

    What you should know

Road conditions: Variable access. Many campgrounds require traveling on unpaved roads with challenging sections. At Morgan Mtn Rd/Spy Rock, "The gravel road has some ruuts but if you take your time small SVUs can make it fine," advises Caitlin F. Four-wheel drive isn't always necessary but helps during wet conditions.

Limited services: Prepare accordingly. Cell reception varies significantly throughout the area. "Plenty of shade in hot months with the pine grove... 30/50 amp service, water, picnic table, fire ring and trash hook," Ryan S. notes about Petit Jean State Park, though many locations offer fewer amenities.

Dog-friendly policies vary: Check rules. Most dog friendly campgrounds near Ozone require leashes. "Dogs can wade in the shallow creek areas while leashed," at Haw Creek, while at Byrd's Adventure Center, Jessica D. confirms they're "Dog friendly" with policies allowing pets throughout the property.

    Tips for camping with families

Safer swimming options: Designated areas recommended. Families appreciate campgrounds with defined swimming areas. At Steel Creek Campground, Samantha W. reports, "Really beautiful views of the bluffs and easy access to the river for swimming." Most swimming holes lack lifeguards, so adult supervision remains essential.

Spacious campsites: Room to spread out. Families need extra space for activities and equipment. David S. found that Haw Creek Falls "isn't exactly remote, but it's well developed without being overdone, with spacious plots. I think this would be a great area for families." Sites typically accommodate one vehicle plus tent space.

Weather considerations: Plan for conditions. The mountain elevation creates variable weather patterns. "During summer months, the swimming areas become popular day-use spots," increasing traffic at Haw Creek Falls, while at Petit Jean State Park Loop A, Jill B. warns "very little shade would be rough in summer months without shade tents, awnings, etc."

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Limited full-service options. Most campgrounds offer only partial hookups. "We stayed at site #30. It had a beautiful view of the lake. It's was also a plus to have full hookups including 50 amp service and sewer. So unusual for a state park," notes Jill B. about Petit Jean State Park's Loop A.

Site leveling challenges: Be prepared. Many RV sites require significant leveling equipment. Ryan S. observed at Petit Jean State Park that "many sites are unlevel and require significant leveling chocks to get it truly level" in Loop B. Bring appropriate leveling equipment for uneven terrain.
