Millersylvania State Park offers fun for everyone. Spend a summer day splashing in Deep Lake. Gather with friends in an historic kitchen shelter.

Conveniently located between Olympia and Centralia, this large, well-visited park beckons to adults and children alike.

Many of the park structures, including the kitchen shelters, were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s, making the park a great place to see and admire the hallmark artisanship of that era.

With two swimming beaches, miles of forested hiking and biking trails, watercraft launches, non-motorized watercraft rentals (kayaks, paddleboards, pedal boats) and abundant fishing, Millersylvania will keep you busy for a satisfying weekend or an extended outdoor vacation.

    Des Moines, Washington

Welcome to Saltwater State Park Campground, a cozy spot nestled near Des Moines, WA. This campground is a great choice if you're looking to stay close to Seattle while enjoying some outdoor time. The park is open from May to September, offering a variety of accommodations including tent sites, RV spots, glamping options, and even yurts.

One of the standout features here is the proximity to the beach. It's just a five-minute walk from the campsites, and the sunsets over the water are absolutely stunning. The beach area also has a playground and an outdoor shower, making it a hit for families. If you're into hiking, there are plenty of trails to explore.

The campground itself is pretty functional. You'll find clean bathrooms and showers, which is always a plus. There's also a market on-site for any last-minute supplies you might need. Pets are welcome, so feel free to bring your furry friends along.

Now, a heads-up: the campground is right under the flight path for Sea-Tac Airport, so expect some noise from planes. If you're an airplane enthusiast, you'll love it. If not, it might take some getting used to.

Some visitors have mentioned that the sites are close together, so don't expect a ton of privacy. But on the flip side, the sites are well-maintained and fit small tents nicely.

Overall, Saltwater State Park Campground is a solid choice if you want to be near Seattle but still enjoy some beach time and outdoor activities. Just be prepared for a bit of noise and keep an eye on your belongings, as the area has been noted for theft. Happy camping!

      Ashford, Washington

The Yurt is by far the most secluded of the four huts within the Mount Tahoma Trail System. A cozy studio in the wilderness surrounded by trees with easy access for a day hike to Griffin Mountain, you'll have to really hoof it through the snow to get there.

The lower parking lot has a pit toilet facility for use before starting on your trek. From the lower parking lot, hike uphill for two miles, and arrive at a junction where the groomed road veers off to the right and a trail in the woods heads left. To the left is the Lower Yurt Trail. Take a left and head into the dense forest, across a footbridge and through the quiet forest.

After 1.64 miles on the Lower Yurt Trail, stay right and continue for another 1.51 miles. Here you will come to the junction that provides access back up the hill to Snow Bowl and High Hut. Stay to the left and continue on the forest road for 0.82 miles. Here you will come to the trail for Griffin Mountain.

Take the road to the right for another 0.27 miles to the Yurt. Keep an eye out to the west and you will see Snow Bowl Hut in the distance.

The Yurt can also be accessed by taking the forest roads up towards Snow Bowl. From the top saddle on the way to Snow Bowl, take the road to the left, and stay to the right for 2.42 miles to access the Yurt.

There is a day hike possible from the Yurt to Griffin Mountain, which is 3.8 miles round trip from the Yurt and provides excellent views of Mount Rainier! All huts have a wood stove, oven, stovetop, bunk beds/mattresses, outdoor pit toilet, and cooking utensils.

Reservations must be obtained to stay overnight. Obtain a map for a $10 donation, or at Whittaker's Outfitters in Ashford and ask questions Saturdays and Sundays 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. during the winter season. Most weekend reservations for the winter season are filled during the REI Gala in November.
