FS #117 Rd Dispersed Camping

FS #117 Rd Dispersed Camping, near Bryce Canyon National Park, is a fantastic spot for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy some quality time in nature. This area offers a true back-to-basics experience, with fire pits and plenty of space to set up your tent or RV.

Visitors have raved about the peacefulness of the location, with many finding secluded spots even during busy weekends. One camper mentioned, “It was very quiet and could not hear highway traffic or neighbors,” making it a great choice for stargazing and relaxing by the fire. The lack of amenities like drinking water and toilets means you’ll need to come prepared, but that’s part of the charm for many who enjoy the simplicity of boondocking.

If you’re planning to explore, you’re just a short drive from the breathtaking views of Bryce Canyon and Red Canyon. The area is also popular for biking, with trails nearby that are perfect for family adventures. Plus, you might even share your breakfast with some friendly cows, as one camper humorously noted.

Whether you’re a seasoned camper or just looking for a peaceful getaway, FS #117 Rd Dispersed Camping offers a unique experience surrounded by the beauty of Utah’s wilderness.

Great place to boondock with cell service!

I enjoyed my stay here. I pitched a tent and drove a Honda Accord there. There was great cell service a bathroom/rest stop within 5 minutes and this is only a 15 minute drive to Bryce canyon NP.

Great place to Boondock

We drove around a little bit and found a great site with a stone ring fire pit. A few neighbors, quite a distance apart, and we have CELL Service! Verizon and T-Mobile May 15th.

Night in the trees

Awesome spot to stop on the way ti Bryce. In Dixie Forest. There is a bathroom across the road from where you turn in. We found it very easy to find. There was a lot of cars going up and down the gravel main road throughout the night.

Quiet location close to where you want to visit

We stayed over Memorial Day weekend and arrived Saturday morning and there were dozens of others in this area but were still able to find a secluded spot to camp. It was very quiet and could not hear highway traffic or neighbors. Also loved that it was across from the start of Red Canyon bike trail parking.

Plenty of great dirt roads to drive through to find a spot while pulling a trailer. My kids loved riding their bikes around the loops, roasting s’mores over the fire and stargazing.

Close to Byrce Canyon City, Boondock and save $68/night

Also look at the listing:Tom Best Road, FR117 dispersed for more information on this area.  Go thru the Byrce Canyon City round about heading west on Highway 12 nearly 6 miles and turn right at the Red Canyon Trail Road sign.  While turning the Tom Best Rd sign will  appear (hard to see going by on the highway).

Many campsites down the side roads for the first one and a half miles that fit any size rig. Most of the side roads have a fine rock base and don't get very muddy.

Look at FR3626 to the right, 0.9 miles from the highway.  If not wanting to be surrounded by trees go on down FR117 at bit further where more wide open views.  Look on Google Maps at all the side roads.  Grocery store in Bryce Canyon City. good cell service.

Most  camp sites are pretty flat and clean.  Minimal noise from people and the highway,

Boondocking at its finest, just no swimming pool.

Fun Boondock

4 stars because of the road noise.

Second boondock experience for us. Real minimalistic spot; only a fire pit. It was pretty busy when we arrived so our spot was next to the road.

One bonus: short off-road drive to our spot

Great Spot Close to NP

The Road is OPEN as of 4/6.

I loved this campsite! Found a secluded spot farther back on the road surrounded by trees and a beautiful view of distant mountains. Perfect place to get the dog some exercise too. Quiet and close to Bryce Canyon entrance.

Lots of space, very close to Bryce

Great place to camp overnight if you’re looking for somewhere close to Bryce with a lot of open room. Arrived at night and the roads were in surprisingly good condition all graded with gravel and no large potholes or ruts which made it easy for my 2WD van.

There is a plethora of different campsites to choose from ranging from close to the main road to further back in some turnarounds. I probably only saw about five other people here while driving around and it was very quiet at night.

Amazing views!

It was our first time in the Bryce Canyon Area. This was the perfect place to set up camo! We found a nice secluded spot on a hill with great views! Only a short drive in to Bryce Canyon National Park! Perfect to do some exploring during the day and relax back at camp not too far at night! Can’t wait to go back and bring friends and family!

Easy road and lots of space

This is a great location before Bryce NP. Easy access in our 4runner with rooftop tent and lots of open space. It was very windy, but as long as you situate yourself back in the trees it is minimal.

This is NOT in Bryce Canyon

This listing is in error, this site is not in Bryce Canyon NP as there is no vehicle dispersed camping in the park. This is on Dixie NF about 5 miles to west of Bryce Canyon City an is actually the Tom Best Spring FS #117 road dispersed camping area at MP 7.5 on hwy 12. My photos are of various Dixie NF Red Canyon scenes which are very similar to Bryce Canyon NP geology but you can hike with your dog, ride a Mt bike and Nat have to pay a NP entry fee.

Great Boondocking Location

Plenty of available sites, many drive through. Many could accommodate our 35' motorhome. Among the tall pines yet enough sunlight for solar panels. Four bars of AT&T 4G. Ten miles to Bryce Canyon visitor center and 9 miles west to the Red Canyon visitor center.

Off-road vehicles are allowed in the area but few passed nearby and none were bothersome.

Great location. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Worth it

Just kept following the roads through the woods until I found a campsite along a ridge. Very beautiful views and clean camping areas. 2wd acceptable to get up there through the woods. Lots of space to camp, although I'm not sure how many "designated" campsites there are.
