Wheeler Peak Rd is actually one of 4 roads that goes into this vast area.
There are several roads that some think give better access to campsites off HIghway 160 in town. Wheeler Peak Rd is south of town.
Best one might be Charleston Peak Rd. Turn east off 160 Highway by the Auto Zone store onto Panorama and go one block to Charleston Peak Rd turning right at the Chevy dealership.
This is paved road nearly all the way to campsites. When the pavement ends go straight ahead a block or two to campsites or turn to the left and go north toward the power lines. All BLM east of the power lines clear to the mountains.
Boondocked in this area 2 months with no complaints. Verizon Cellphone signal this close to town was very good as was my hotspot internet connection.
VERY ATTRACTIVE SETTING. 2 SWIMMING P00LS, PICKLEBALL COURTS,
MOUNTAIN VIEWS. WELL KEPT AND MANAGED.
no road noise
EASY ACCESS including big rigs.
FREE BREAKFAST M,W,F.
WINERY HAS A RESTAURANT
$519/month plus electric, which was $78 in VERY HOT SEPTEMBER
A VERY NICE RESORT
Turn right off Highway 12 nearly 6 miles west of the Bryce City Round About at the Red
Canyon Trail Road sign. The Tom Best Rd sign is hard to see going by on the highway. In the first mile and a half there are scores of campsites for anything
from tents to 50 foot rigs. Sites available just off the main road, back in the forest a bit or out in the open with views. Tom Best Springs is a very long 12 miles down FR117. Didn't see a reason to go that far when camping so close to Highway 12 but there are campsites all along this road and OTVs seem to go further back in. Campsites are pretty flat and clean. Most side roads to the sites have a fine rock base and don't get too muddy, easy in and out. Hardly any noise from people or the highway. Might look at FR3626 0.9 miles from the highway. Good Verizon service. 8 miles to Bryce Canyon City and groceries. Boondocking at its finest minus a swimming pool.
Also look at the listing:Tom Best Road, FR117 dispersed for more information on this area. Go thru the Byrce Canyon City round about heading west on Highway 12 nearly 6 miles and turn right at the Red Canyon Trail Road sign. While turning the Tom Best Rd sign will appear (hard to see going by on the highway).
Many campsites down the side roads for the first one and a half miles that fit any size rig. Most of the side roads have a fine rock base and don't get very muddy.
Look at FR3626 to the right, 0.9 miles from the highway. If not wanting to be surrounded by trees go on down FR117 at bit further where more wide open views. Look on Google Maps at all the side roads. Grocery store in Bryce Canyon City. good cell service.
Most camp sites are pretty flat and clean. Minimal noise from people and the highway,
Boondocking at its finest, just no swimming pool.
