Forest Rd 294 Dispersed - Dixie National Forest

Free dispersed camping along Forest Rd 294 puts campers in forested terrain within Dixie National Forest, with no reservation required and no fee. The road holds up well in dry conditions, but several reviewers caution that moisture can make it problematic, so checking recent weather before arrival is worth the effort. Campers with trucks, SUVs, or crossovers will have the easiest time navigating the dirt surface.

Crowd levels here tend to run low. Multiple visitors report arriving late at night and finding no other campers in the area, which makes it a practical overnight stop for those staging a trip to Bryce Canyon National Park. Some road noise carries from a nearby highway, but the sites spread out enough that neighbors are rarely a concern. Fire rings are present, and campfires are permitted, with firewood available on-site.

Julie S. notes the site sits "still in view of the road but secluded," which captures the tradeoff well. Evidence of grazing cattle has been reported, and the surrounding terrain includes trees and open ground with wide sightlines. Cell service is listed as available. Pets are welcome.

Campers regularly cited the spacious, secluded dispersed sites and proximity to Bryce Canyon as major draws. Most found easy access and clean conditions, though higher clearance vehicles are recommended.

Beautiful sunrise, no neighbors

I turned down this dirt road and stopped before reaching the mark on the map. Still in view of the road but secluded. Evidence of grazing cattle.

Great little secluded spot.

We got there at night and woke up to a great view! We were the only ones in the area and at night the stars were so bright and beautiful. Easy access back onto the highway to continue our journey to Bryce Canyon National Park.

Nice quiet spot

It took us a while to find it in the dark. Nice and clean, even has a place to build a fire. We were the only ones on a Thursday night. we left before sunrise to hit Bryce for sunrise so i couldn’t take a photo

Accessible and hidden

Sites were very easy to access. You can hear cars passing on the nearby road but still better than having noisy neighbors and RVs. We got to the site around 10:30pm and there were no other campers around. Close to Bryce Canyon and Grand Staircase Escalante

Dispersed at its finest

If your a boondocker you will love it. Roads are good so long as there has not been alot of moisture. Wide open space with enormous views. Bryce 10 minutes away.

In grid, but away.

I love camping here because it is so close to Bryce but also away from having a camper right next to you.

This dispersed camping option is great if you like your own space to enjoy.Bryce city is about 20 min from the campsite.
