Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Windcrest, TX

Mission City RV Park's secured pet area features benches and toys for dogs, making it a standout choice for pet owners near Windcrest. The park maintains a gated facility with no breed restrictions, unlike some nearby options such as the KOA across the street. Travelers World RV Resort and Blazing Star Luxury RV Resort also accommodate pets with full hookup sites suitable for RVs, tents, and cabin stays. Fort Sam Houston Army RV Park offers pet-friendly grounds with a decent dog run at the back of the park, making extended stays comfortable for military personnel traveling with animals. ['The heated pool at Mission City provides a welcome amenity after a day of pet-friendly exploration in San Antonio.'] Most campgrounds require pets to remain on-leash when outside designated exercise areas, with clean facilities maintained throughout the grounds.

Pet exercise opportunities vary across facilities, with the Salado Creek Greenway trailhead located just a mile from Mission City RV Park providing excellent walking and running paths for dogs and their owners. Green Tree Village North Park permits pets but enforces restrictions on outdoor activities including bike riding and fires, factors to consider when planning extended stays with active dogs. The industrial surroundings of some parks create ambient noise, though campground interiors remain relatively quiet. Most RV parks feature level sites with adequate space for pet equipment, with some offering concrete pads alongside gravel options. Proximity to San Antonio attractions places campers within 10 minutes of the Riverwalk and Alamo, with convenient public transportation options available from select campgrounds for those who prefer not to drive with pets to downtown destinations.

    Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Canyon Lake

Family fun, better for littles than teens

We came for the month of January to camp next to friends. It’s a family RV park and has nice amenities. We are just outgrowing the atmosphere. It’s nothing against the park, we just have a teenager. (14) I recommend it for any families with younger kids! If you have a teen who rolls their eyes as a bounce pillow and isn’t interested in miniature golf, probably keep looking.

Our site is wooded and has a nice fire pit—but unfortunately right now there is a burn ban in Comal County.

Pet friendly! Has a small dog park.

Hill Country RV Resort & Cottage Rentals

Nice Park with little room between sites

The park it’s self is nice and clean.  Staff for the most part is friendly and nice.  The pool is a hopping place over summer break and on the weekends when it’s warm.  RV sites are tight in the daily/weekly sites and parking your 40+ foot rig and tow vehicle in the spot are probably not happening.  They do have over flow parking and depending on your site it could be a good walk.

They are pet friendly and have several dog parks and potty areas through out the park.  The laundry room is like no other I’ve ever been too.  All machines operate via debit/credit cards, no more quarters!!

Over all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this park for monthly stays or in one of their top tier sites for daily/weekly stays.

    Stone Creek RV Park

    Just off i35

Super easy to get to off i35 between New Braunfels and San Antonio. The park is nice but could use some updating. The daily sites are up front and those are kept up, but if you walk around the park the ones near the back that are mostly monthly rentals could use some TLC. The playground was okay but the dog parks were nicer. It was cold so we skipped the pools but they have two.

We stayed three weeks here after being caught in the Texas Arctic vortex. They were very accommodating considering we extended our stay twice. The location is super convenient and about 30-45 minutes from the River walk.

    San Antonio Alamo KOA

Clean and Fun Stay, Our Dogs Loved It!

What a lovely stay! The facilities were all very clean and updated. The stocked fish pond was beautiful and the dog park was also nice. There were always some friendly pups there when we took our dogs. There's a greenbelt walk right next to the site we were at as well. Bikes to rent, friendly staff, happy campers all over, what more can you ask?

    Miller Creek RV Park

    Hidden Gem

I first chose this RV park because it was further away from Johnson City (I wanted a quiet RV park that wasn’t too close to the busy traffic). I was not disappointed. My girlfriend and myself have stayed here twice and we will be going back in November. The office staff is friendly and very helpful. The sites are gravel/dirt but the are all level. There is a nice size dog park area for an RV park of this size. Me of the things I love is taking my dogs to the park first thing in the morning and watching the cows in the pasture next to the park through the fence.

    Canopy Luxury RV Resort

Luxury RV Park worth the price.

Honestly, the price wasn't too bad. Gated community with concierge service to your site. Most sites had some degree of shade and a decent amount of privacy. The pool and shower facilities are very nice and clean. The 2 dog parks (split into 2 sections each for small and large...so 4 dog parks) really helped keep our dogs entertained. Great rotation of food trucks and activities for kids. 100% recommended for a RV Resort stay.

    Lake Pointe Resort

    Thumbs up.

We stayed here for 2 weeks and don't regret it at all. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. The surroundings are beautiful and quiet. The RV park also offers 2 well-maintained pools. A family and an adult pool. There are deer roaming around the entire area, which was a new experience for our dogs. A simple but functional dog park was therefore very convenient for us.

    Vista Ridge RV Park

Great location, great management, great price

We stayed 5 nights visiting San Antonio. This is a beautiful park outside of the city on the river. 30 minutes to downtown. The owners are awesome people and there is a real pride of ownership shown in the upkeep around the park.

Pool, hot tub, fitness center, laundry, dog park, golf cart rentals, clubhouse, and much more!

Guide to Windcrest

Windcrest camping areas sit within the Texas Hill Country region at around 800 feet elevation. The climate features hot summers with temperatures often exceeding 90°F and mild winters averaging 40-60°F. Most local campgrounds remain open year-round, with spring and fall offering the most comfortable weather for tent camping and outdoor activities.

What to do

Riverfront exploration: 10 minutes from downtown San Antonio, the Travelers World RV Resort provides access to extensive paved trails. "There is a bike trail into downtown. Can't believe there is a campground so convenient to everything. Looking forward to returning," notes Larry from Travelers World.

Hiking opportunities: 1 mile away from some Windcrest area campgrounds. "There is an awesome walk/bike path about a mile away. Very peaceful and easy terrain for a great walk or bike ride," explains Kathy H. who stayed at Mission City RV Park.

Swimming access: 30-40 minutes northwest of Windcrest at Guadalupe River RV Park and Campgrounds. "Mid November and swimming was still fun. The next morning was 10 degrees so a whole different experience," shares Patrick H. The park features both shallow wading areas and deeper fishing spots along the river.

What campers like

Security features: Gated access at multiple campgrounds provides peace of mind. "The park is gated and beautifully maintained. The staff were accommodating and did not charge us for a late check out," explains Carlyne F. about her stay near Windcrest.

Transportation convenience: Public bus access outside several campgrounds. "Taking the bus to the Riverwalk area and Alamo made our experience even better because we didn't have to find parking or look for directions," notes Kathy I. from Mission City RV Park.

Clean facilities: Daily maintenance of bathhouses and common areas. "The bathrooms were very clean and well kept. The showers almost made us feel at home," reports another camper staying near Windcrest. Many parks offer modern shower facilities with reliable hot water even during colder months.

What you should know

Neighborhood considerations: Industrial surroundings at some parks can create noise issues. "For being in a big city, this is a great park. It is quiet within the park. The industry around the park is noisy," explains a reviewer about Mission City RV Park.

Site variations: Concrete vs. gravel options available. "Some sites have cement pads. Most are gravel with a picnic table," notes a camper. Level sites are more common in newer parks while older facilities may require additional leveling equipment.

Activity restrictions: No bike riding allowed at Green Tree Village North Park. "It works as a nice quiet place. You cannot have a fire. The grass is not mowed very well," mentions Brian P. These limitations may impact families planning longer stays with active children.

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Multiple age-appropriate equipment available at some parks. "Large playground for the little ones to play," notes a visitor to Blazing Star Luxury RV Resort. The resort offers dedicated kids' areas away from RV traffic.

Educational opportunities: Nature centers within 30 minutes of Windcrest. "We worked with the park Ranger program and my son was awarded a Ranger Badge," shares Patrick H. about Guadalupe River RV Park.

Recreational variety: Pool and game options at several facilities. "Has full hookups with WiFi and cable. Tons of amenities like a pool, hot tub, playground, weight room, laundry, arcade, and a general store," explains Jonathan K. These amenities provide alternatives during inclement weather.

Tips from RVers

Base camp strategy: Proximity to attractions from secure facilities. "Solid option just a 10 minute drive to most of the best of San Antonio — the Pearl, The Alamo, Riverwalk and Brackenridge Park," explains kristin S. about staying at dog friendly campgrounds near Windcrest.

Leveling conditions: Site preparation needed at some locations. "The sites are close together but level. Some sites have cement pads," notes a camper. Consider bringing leveling blocks for RVs, particularly at older facilities with gravel sites.

Supply planning: Limited grocery options near some parks. "I'd recommend picking up food at the H‑E‑B on the way in. There is a Lowe's grocery store near by but the selection of organic produce was non existent," advises Mia D. about her stay at Cranes Mill Park, approximately 30 miles from Windcrest.
