Great county park

Quiet and away from the noisy RVs this spot was peaceful and offered great access to the river. A street light made it a little too bright at night for sleeping in a tent. Bathrooms were okay.

Really nice municipal park

The staff did not seem to be at the park but were good about returning phone calls. Spaces were small but the park is generous, has lovely trails around it, a nice stream and play equipment for kids. Everything works except one of the washing machines ( yes, they have a laundry room). It’s quiet and was a great stop-over for us on the way to Big Bend.

Nice sites, quiet

Pretty much as advertised. Restrooms and showers were clean and functional but in need of repairs and updates. Site was level with functional utilities.

Nice quiet park not far from San Antonio

We were in site 38(open side of campground) for 8 days. Our site was deceptively unlevel, where our front wheels ended up an inch or so off of the ground. We saw a few others that way too. The sites in treed part are rather close together and irregular in length, some very short, but the current reservation system is wonky and doesn’t list the site lengths. The open side of the campground is basically a gravel over asphalt parking lot, but the sites are bigger and do also have FHUs despite a previous review to the contrary. The park itself is nice, with playgrounds, a large open central area with several soccer fields and quite a few trails to hike. The park does get rather busy on the weekends and unfortunately there was a lot of colored eggshells all around the park, likely from some large Easter event they had there. There were about a dozen deer that frequented the open areas at night and we could hear a couple of coyote packs off in the distance. The park director, Devin, and staff were very friendly and helpful. AT&T coverage was ok, generally between 2-3 bars of LTE service, with speeds up to about 1.5 MB/s. Unfortunately, even though the WiFi had been recently upgraded, it was effectively useless, we couldn’t make a connection to several of the 6 routers and got next to zero throughput on the 2 we could. The park director said he hopes to upgrade to fiber at some point in the future, but said there was very little of it in the area, so it might take a while to get it. Since there were no trees on the open side, satellite coverage was not an issue, so we didn’t try to get any OTA channels. There is a nice restaurant, Hillside Texas Bistro, just a mile down the road.

Clean, quiet, feels of nature

RV and tent camping areas. We dispersed-camped due to after sunset arrival. Park is clean and well used during the day, but the whole place got quiet at 7 pm. A cop patrolled the perimeter twice, once right at sunset then again 2 hours later. There were wildlife sounds all night long, i.e. coyotes yipping and owls hooting. The bathrooms are simple, but clean with flush toilets. The showers are currently shut off. Plenty of picnic tables and trash cans. In the morning expect joggers and dog walkers right at sunrise. There’s plenty to see and do if you stay for a while, the river is alongside the park and there are hilly walking trails.

Hidden Texas Gem

I want to rank this park a 2 so I can keep this jewel hidden but that would not be right. This park is well worth the visit. Dont get upset with first impressions. You have some wide pull through sites on asphalt and pull through sites in main park. Get to the river! You will find the Medina River at its finest. Beautiful trails and deep swimming holes. Everything young kids love. Beware of the Marine ROTC group on Saturday morning. Haha. Go to Castroville Regional.

City park

Very basic, close quarters RV area. The tent area is not "primitive" per say, it is near the RV area and close to the river. Park is maintained with a pool. Trails are nice and you can get a good run in. River had a good current while I was there.
