Fort Sam Houston Army RV

Military families and RV travelers find a well-maintained base at Fort Sam Houston Army RV, located on the grounds of the historic military installation in San Antonio. The campground sits away from the main base traffic, accessible through specific gate directions that staff provides during reservation calls.

All sites feature pull-through access with full hookups including both 30 and 50-amp electrical service, accommodating large rigs on level concrete pads. Trees positioned between sites provide natural barriers and shade coverage, though campers note additional shade would enhance comfort during San Antonio's intense summer heat. The facility includes two bathhouses with laundry facilities, a small dog park for off-leash exercise, and a playground area. Propane sales are available on-site.

Long-term residents occupy many sites, creating a settled community atmosphere while leaving spaces available for short-term visitors. Brenda L. found "concrete pads, level, full hookups, spacious sites" with "picnic tables and grills on each site also." Occasional train noise from nearby railroad tracks occurs during daytime hours but typically doesn't disturb nighttime rest with air conditioning running.

Campers seeking additional options can explore places to camp around Windcrest, or consider nearby alternatives like Alamo City RV Park for different amenities and settings.

Great campground

We were here for two weeks visiting our son and daughter in law. It was a great place to base camp while we explored and visited. Concrete pads, level, full hookups, spacious sites. Picnic tables and grills on each site also. The laundry was small but very clean and nice. Bath house was clean also even if a bit older. Lots of trees and shade in areas. A small dog park for off leash was available. Office was available and very nice staff. Lots of grassy areas to walk our dog. We truly enjoyed our stay here!

Good trip!

All the sites are pull-through with full hookups(30 and 50 amp), and spacious enough for even the largest rigs. The grass was freshly mowed, and the park was clean. Staff were super friendly. There's a decent dog run at the back, propane available for purchase on-site, and two wash houses with washers and dryers. A large playground keeps the little ones entertained. Despite many full-timers, there were still plenty of open spots. It was very quiet—aside from the occasional train, which isn’t noticeable with the A/C running. Would be a 5-star stay if there were just a bit more shade [geometry dash 3d](https://geometrydash3d.com).

Military RVing

Park is nice with large spots. Office is hard to find with limited signs showing where to go, where to park. Office is below swimming pool on lake. Park has RR near so trains are noisy but I didn’t hear them at night. Dog, child friendly. Post is a little confusing to navigate but it’s $30/n and safe!

Nice Park

All the sites are pull through, have full hook ups (30 and 50) and are big enough to park the largest of rigs. Grass was all mowed and park was clean. Staff was super nice. Had a decent dog run at the back of the park. Propane for sale on site and two wash houses with washers and dryers. Large playground for the little ones to play. Even with all the full timers, there were plenty of open spaces. Very quiet minus the train but when the a/c is on, you don’t even hear it. Would be 5 stars if there was a little more shade.

I camp here often

Although this park is safe on its on canyon lake and the people are nice, improvements are needed. The place has trash everywhere, sad they dont pick it up under the look outs and the hiking trail and around the beach area. The bathroom is a mess, no sink, toilets leak , showers are like going into a power was station.

Retired Military

Campground sits way off the beaten path of a very busy Ft. Sam Houston. Great spacIous, level lots with concrete pad for outside activities at each site. Trees between spots help to quell some of the very hot San Antonio heat.

It is what it is

On post, follow directions from front gate as the other access point is now closed. Call ahead and get directions from staff. Clean, well maintained RV parking area:) there are Rec areas nearby and the golf course is close. Shower and laundry all in the same building.

Just overnight

Although we only stayed for a short time, we like this campground and will go back if we're in the area again. The staff is nice and the park is nice and clean. The park seems crowded due to people camping there on a long term basis.
