Brazos Bend State Park Campground accommodates pets throughout its extensive trail system and campsites. The park features tent sites, RV spaces with hookups, cabins, and glamping options where leashed pets are welcome. Nearby Shiloh RV Park also accepts pets, with full hookup pull-through sites in a shaded setting. Both parks maintain clean facilities and well-maintained grounds for comfortable stays with animals. Houston/Med Center KOA Holiday provides another option for travelers with dogs, offering both tent and RV accommodations with standard amenities including water hookups, electricity, and trash service. Many campgrounds in the area implement standard pet policies requiring leashes no longer than six feet, proper waste disposal, and pets to remain attended. Wildlife encounters add an interesting dimension to pet management at these locations. Visitors use The Dyrt to find real feedback on camping near Thompsons, Texas.

Brazos Bend's trail system provides excellent walking opportunities for dogs, though owners should exercise caution due to the park's renowned alligator population. Numerous guests report spotting up to 15-19 alligators during weekend visits, making vigilant pet supervision essential. The park's flat, accessible paths create ideal terrain for walking dogs of all sizes, though summer humidity can be challenging for pets. Highway 6 RV Resort and Lakeview RV Resort both offer cabin accommodations that accept pets, providing alternatives during extreme weather conditions. Multiple RV parks in the area feature sufficient space between sites for pet comfort, and most maintain grassy areas for quick relief walks. Eric and Jay's RV Resort permits both tents and RVs with pets allowed, though their no-fires policy means evening activities with dogs require alternative entertainment options.

Great campground with wonderful staff who are very friendly. Full hookup, paved sites with heated saltwater pool and hot tub, workout facilities, clubhouse with games and puzzles, laundry facilities, a small camp store, and pet friendly with two small dog parks. The best thing about the location is that it backs up to Tom Bass park that has wonderful dog parks along with playgrounds and frisbee golf. Would definitely be staying here again!

      Traders Village RV Park

Houston, Tx…..Nothing to get excited about

It’s a large campground and spaces are very small. There’s a grass strip between camp sites. No picnic tables or grills. The office gave us a map and showed us how to get to our site but virtually impossible to understand. A very nice gentleman that stayed here took us to our site. He said they have no idea how to do directions and a buddy of his really messed up his camper by trolling around looking for their site. It’s very crowded and no room for awnings or for both campers side by side to put out awnings. There is a pool but it doesn’t look well maintained and there’s absolutely no chairs. Just the pool and it’s small. Laundry room is large. There’s no dog park or anywhere to walk your dog. Signs everywhere that say no pets, yet they are allowed. The flea market is only on the wknd. It’s close to a lot of restaurants and in a nice area.

Houston / Med Center KOA Holiday

      A lot of Amenities

The park is clean, but the sites are tight. The further you get to the front the louder the traffic noise is, but the sites are larger and spaced out more. It is a five and take. It has three locations with washer and dryers, two dog parks, a recreation room and easy access to Tom Bass park.

      Galveston Island KOA Holiday

      Amazing week by the beach!!

What a great park!! We had been there a couple years ago, before it was a KOA and glad it still had the same feel!! We LOVED it!! The weather was perfect, the beach is accross the highway (easy to walk to) and there are multiple beaches along the island that you can drive to and some, even drive on!! The park had a pool, lazy river, dog park, cabins, nice laundryroom and adult beverages served at the office as well as available in their store. The staff was awesome and they keep you informed by text about goings on in the park. We booked again for next year!

    Guide to Thompsons

Camping options near Thompsons, Texas sit within the humid subtropical climate of Fort Bend County, where summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity. The generally flat terrain makes most campsites easily accessible, though seasonal mosquito activity can be intense, particularly near water features. Winter temperatures rarely drop below freezing, making year-round camping viable with proper preparation.

    What to do

Stargazing at George Observatory: Visit Brazos Bend State Park Campground and explore their observatory. "The best part of this park is the observatory, which has special events and regular weekend hours pretty much all year. It's absolutely worth staying up late for this!" notes Kim B. The observatory offers weekend programming throughout the year.

Fishing opportunities: Take advantage of stocked ponds at Eric and Jays RV Resort. According to Carlyne F., "There is a fully stocked pond for fishing and a gas fireplace pit to sit around in the evenings." The resort provides fishing access without needing to leave the property.

Walking trails: Explore the extensive trail system at nearby parks. Susan T. from AllStar RV Resort mentions, "Place is very clean & convenient to freeways & tollway." From many campgrounds, you can access nearby county parks with asphalt walking/biking paths.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers consistently praise the maintenance standards at Medical Center RV Resort. According to Dorothy J., it's a "Very nice park exceptionally clean at all times. Staff is very pleasant and go above and beyond to help whatever they can." The resort maintains clean laundry facilities and guest areas.

Wildlife viewing: The opportunity to see alligators and other wildlife draws many visitors. Drew P. notes, "It's always fun to hike or bike around the trails and see all types of birds, alligators, and other wildlife." Recent visitors report seeing dozens of alligators during moderate temperature days.

Swimming options: Pools provide relief from summer heat at several campgrounds. Tammie L. reports that Shiloh RV Park has "a great swimming beach" and mentions that "sites are full hookup! Staff super friendly!" Many RV resorts in the area maintain clean pool facilities with extended hours.

    What you should know

Weather considerations: Summer heat and humidity require preparation. As one camper notes about Brazos Bend, "If you go in the summer you need to watch out for mosquitoes." Temperatures regularly exceed 90°F with high humidity from June through September.

Road noise: Many campgrounds sit close to highways. Susan T. mentions sites are "A bit noisy from highway proximity but not all that bad." Consider requesting sites furthest from roadways when making reservations.

Reservation requirements: Most campgrounds in the area require advance booking. Highway 6 RV Resort receives high ratings, with Al09 S. noting it's "A bit on the pricier side, but it is very well managed and well kept." Campgrounds near medical centers often fill quickly during weekdays.

Pet policy enforcement: Campgrounds maintain strict pet rules. One reviewer warns about overzealous rule enforcement, saying management "stalk you when you walk your dogs, and blame you for other people's mess." Most sites require 6-foot maximum leashes and immediate waste cleanup.

    Tips for camping with families

Observatory visits: Plan evening activities around astronomical events. Kim B. recommends, "Hikes and wildlife are good too, lots of easy trails along water for the kids, cool ponds, great little observation tour to climb." The observatory at Brazos Bend offers family-friendly programming on weekend evenings.

Kid-friendly amenities: Look for campgrounds with play areas. Candy P. notes that Lakeview RV Resort has many amenities though "not kid friendly" according to some reviews. Check campground websites for current family facility information.

Safety considerations: Monitor children near water features due to wildlife. Jules S. reports, "Have also seen lots of alligators, as advertised, which has been pretty cool!" Parents should maintain close supervision of children near any water bodies.

Seasonal planning: Visit during moderate temperature periods. One camper advised, "If it is too hot or cold you won't see Gators," suggesting spring and fall provide optimal wildlife viewing while maintaining comfortable temperatures for children.

    Tips from RVers

Site levelness: Many RV parks provide concrete pads. Al09 S. confirms Highway 6 RV Resort has "Level concrete pads. Overall we were pleased with our time here." This eliminates the need for extensive leveling equipment.

Pet facilities: Several parks offer dedicated pet amenities. Marie B. reports, "They have 2 dog runs, one of them being the largest dog run weve seen at a campground so our mali really got to sprint it out. They also had a free dog wash!" These features make pet-friendly camping near Thompsons, Texas more manageable for RVers.

Hookup quality: Full hookups are standard at most area RV parks. Nathan from Medical Center RV Resort appreciates the "Wide roads to maneuver and large spaces made it easy to get in and get setup, no cars clogging the lanes." Most parks offer 50-amp service, water, and sewer connections.

Laundry access: On-site laundry facilities allow for extended stays. Multiple reviewers mention clean laundry rooms with functional machines, making these locations suitable for longer-term camping with pets near Thompsons.
