    Holly Beach RV Park

Great RV park and a Great Beach

This review is about the Holly Beach RV park that you pay to stay at. There is free camping on the beach. but we stayed at the Holly Beach RV Park located on Mallard street

We stayed 3 nights at the Holly Beach RV Resort and we were the only one here. The park is a large concrete slab in the middle of the Holly Beach community. It has 6-8 back-in, full hook-up sites that can fit any big rig. The beach on the Gulf of Mexico is a very short walk away. Our stay was very quiet and enjoyable. There is free camping on the beach should you want to boondock on the beach. We saw very few locals due to the time of year. All of our hooks-up worked perfectly. The sites are all 50 amp so bring a 30 to 50 amp adapter. I recommend this RV park highly and would stay here again. There is no shower or bath house or laundry. Overall we really loved this place.

    Peaceful Waterfront Park

Shaded Waterfront RV spaces and fully furnished cabins. Quiet, safe, and peaceful park. Wifi, 90ft dock, and aluminum boats free for residents. Excellent fishing. Monthly rates include water, sewer, electricity, and trash. Large shaded spaces. Dog park. Within a few short miles of the local refineries. Less than eight miles to major stores. We have two local golf courses, Bayou Den Golf Course is approximately three miles away. Tyrell Park features a golf course, horseback riding, botanical gardens, and scenic boardwalks approximately five miles from the RV park.

    Pickled Pelican RV Park

    Awesome views of the Gulf.

Great spot on the Gulf of Mexico. The sites have full hookups and are level, and best of all on the beach. This is not a typical RV park as there are no amenities. As of this date rates are $70 a night. One of the best things is there is a gazebo at the back of the site, with a light. I am from the east side of Louisiana and did not know there was a beach in Louisiana.

    Quiet and roomy

This little RV Park in Winnie Texas is a great spot to overnight or take a few days to rest and organize. Management is friendly and helpful. There are spaces empty so there is plenty of room. There is laundromat and showers although we used neither. There are full hookups with fast internet and cable included. There’s not much to do in Winnie but it was a nice place to rest up before we head back to the beach. Inexpensive.

    OK For An Overnight

This campground is a little way off the main highway so you can still hear quite a bit of road noise but it is convenient and the beach is very close.

We did not have reservations and were a bit confused when we pulled in. There is no office and there is just a row of rigs on a dirt drive. We luckily saw a person staying here and got a number from him to call ((409) 225-2020). We called and the guy was friendly and said there are a few sites available for the night but most of the spots are actually permanent rigs that people just rent out like an AirBnb.

The open sites have full hook ups: 20/30/50 amp, sewer and water. As mentioned before there are permanent rigs here and they all offer full hook ups as well. There is a laundry room which has free washer and dryer but there is no bathroom or showers. There is a dumpster on the property but no recycling. It is walking distance to the beach which is nice and a waterway behind the RV sites. There are also kayaks and bikes here that you can borrow or rent.

We stayed here one night while driving through. Would possibly stay again if we needed another "chore" day but otherwise there is lots of free beach camping nearby.

We chose this place because there's a 50% Passport America discount.  Since we arrived on a weekend, our discounted cost came to $34 (after tax), instead of the $24 listed on the PA site.  Also, the PA site said there are showers here and we were disappointed that there aren't any, but maybe they meant the showers that are in the trailers that people can rent.

Good cell reception with ATT and Verizon and there is free wifi as well.

    Frascone Winery

    Great winery with boon-docking & full hook-ups

We discovered this amazing little Texas Winery on Harvest Hosts, but it appears anyone can make a reservation and stay. They offer several dry camping boon docking sites at no charge, assuming you'll visit & support the winery with a tasting and purchase. Plus, they have 3 full hook up sites for a whopping $15 a night :-)

They lots of wine varieties. They're decent. But what's really good.. the large selection of hand made Meads & Fruit wines. Very unique. In fact owner Jim Frascone has won several awards for his meads. Try the Dragon's Breath along with their alligator egg rolls.

The property rests right on the a bay off the Gulf of Mexico. We stayed in one of the 3 full hook up sites for $15. Perfectly level on a concrete pad.

We could walk to the winery in 2 minutes. There is also a small pier with EPIC sunsets over the water.  Down the road about 1/4 mile is are a couple water front restaurants.

Overall the place is clean, peaceful and quiet. Jim took our reservation by phone. When you arrive, you stop at the sign and call him. He rolls out in a golf cart to greet you and shows you where you'll be staying.

It was quite cold and windy, so they carted us around from our camper to the winery then to the pier for a sunset.

it's a little bit of drive off the interstate, but well worth it. You can even jump on a fairy to or from the south of Houston if you have "travel time."  Well worth it.

What impresses us is that Jim has several vineyards around the area, and has his own bee hives to make the meads from. Cool spot for sure. We love it.

    Nice Little Park...but

This is a nice little park, only 14 RV hookup sites and they allow camping in tents on the beach. The sites were very close to the boardwalk that takes you over the dunes and to the beach. The nature trail over the marsh was really cool, we saw lots of alligators and birds. The beach was ok, not the nicest I've ever seen but the kids loved it. Lots of shells and treasures to be found. And very few other people around. We would have really enjoyed our stay had it not been for the mosquitoes. We had read reviews before going and thought we knew what we were in for...but there was nothing to prepare us for these mosquitoes. We covered ourselves with deet, had a bug zapper, I even fogged the area with an essential oil blend for bugs. But nothing kept them away. And it wasn't just a few...they swarmed. At one point my husband had at least 30 on him (and he usually never gets bitten)...after using Off. They were even in the pop up. I have small children, and don't like them getting eaten. We decided to leave a day early because of the mosquitoes. You couldn't even sit outside in the evening and enjoy the ocean breeze. I am from the south and have grown up with mosquitoes my entire life and I have never seen anything like these.

    Stay for the camp hosts

After a failed attempt to stay on the beach for free (search Bolivar Flats for more details), we ended up at this RV park for a week in late February 2019. The camp hosts Brenda and Ben are awesome! We loved them! They made the experience enjoyable despite the horrible weather we experienced while there. The park is right off the main highway, so there is a bit of road noise, but nothing too bad. A short walk behind the RV park and you are on the ocean. Sites seemed a bit close together, but when we were there, we had no neighbors on either side and it seemed spacious to us. Did not have any trouble leveling and internet access for AT&T and Verizon was solid. We were there for their Mardi Gras parade and that was fun. Did have some issues with the electric, but they helped us out and they were getting an electrician out once the rain let up. They were also putting in a new laundry facility, but we never checked it out. Spots are $40/night or $200/week. Keep in mind, they only consider 6 nights a week. First time I have ever seen that in an RV park. Like I said, the camp hosts were wonderful, and we will go back just because of them.

    Pickled Pelican RV Park

Great spot on a rare Louisiana Beach

I have camped with friends numerous times at the Pickled Pelican. March 2024 was my first trip with my own camper. The RV spots are all level concrete in excellent condition. There are twelve spots as close to the beach as you can get, with a covered picnic table and grill. There are also 8 spots that do not have the covered picnic tables, across the street from the cabana sites. Four of those are set up to be used as buddy sites where two RVs can park with their camp sides facing each other and have no problems reaching hookups. Water/sewer/electric hookups are all well maintained. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Ice, bait, and some seafood is available in Holly Beach. No convince stores or gas stations thanks to hurricanes. Closest grocery store, gas/diesel, and general merchandise is in Hackberry, 20 minutes north. There is a convenience store a little closer in Johnson Bayou to the West, as well as in Cameron to the East. Going to Cameron requires crossing via a ferry, not always in service.

    Great little park

We enjoyed Christmas in this quiet park, kinda chilly and pretty deserted. As per normal for RV parks, WiFi sucks but cell signal was adequate (fairly strong with WeBoost) close proximity to shops and restaurants (loved Tia Juanitas Fish camp). Walks, bike tracks, river for kayaking all add to enjoyment.

For those who have showered in an RV, let me say that the high pressure, hot shower is great. Nicely maintained public facilities were great. Level campsites (some look a tad shorter than most) Friendly staff. We did find 7 nights a bit long, but we will be back in the future

We stayed fall and winter here.  They have coin laundry and coin showers and a large lake you can fish and crab in.  Wifi is good, friendly people, very clean and maintained.  We stayed for a month March 2021 and chose this place because it was the only rv park with a big dog area our getman shepherds could run energy off on.  Highly zRecommended!

    The Mosquito Coast

The Mosquito Coast Dec 2022•  We had RV campground reservations for 3 nights but left after one because of the mosquitoes. I had read reviews and came prepared with Thermacell repellent and DEET spray but were overwhelmed by the mosquitoes. My Labrador had mosquitoes swarming him. The campground and park is surrounded by a marsh. The mosquitoes are not bad on the beach where there is a breeze. The park rangers are very nice and the campground itself is nice with spacious flat spots with electric and water hook ups. A dump station is available. Verizon coverage is poor. About half the RV spots were used however I only saw one other camper outside of their RV while we were there. I guess everyone else stayed inside their RV because of the mosquitoes. If you are a first time beach camper to the Texas Gulf Coast, try boondocking on the beach here or further down the Bolivar Peninsula near Crystal Beach. You need to be away from the marsh where the breeze keeps the mosquitoes away.

    Quiet and Friendly

This is a new RV campground on Holly Beach. Level campsites, on thick concrete. Sites one through eight have beautiful metal roof pergolas, with lighting and a large square picnic table with 4 benches. Also has a good sized grill and electric hookups. We were in site 8 at the end with beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico and marshland! Our site was large enough to have a full size F250 and our 32 foot camper! If we had a boat or golf cart, there was room for that as well. Full hookups with new connections. They only make reservations 2 weeks ahead and sites are first come first serve. Check in is at noon, but if there's a site available before then, you are welcome to it. The owner was helpful and super sweet! The gulf Beach is easily accessible by a 5 minute or less walk, or by golf cart or vehicle. We will definitely return! Open year round.

    Miles of Beach Camping

Or stay in the small, open campground with picnic tables, fire rings, water and electric hook up and a nearby comfort station. There’s an outside cold water shower and an elevated walkway crossing wetland to the beach.

The birding is absolutely fantastic so come with binoculars. I saw great flocks of Avocets feeding at the waters edge along with Willets, and a variety of sandpipers and terns including Caspian. There’s a paved trail to hike through the wetlands. Bug spray is essential.

Beach camping is available to any vehicle or camper. The upper beach sand is hard packed like a road and it goes for about three miles on the East side and about 10 on the West side.

I can’t say enough about the staff who became dedicated to rescuing me after a major storm dumped three inches of rain in a couple of hours causing an inland pond to overflow cutting a channel through the beach to the Gulf. I was stranded about two miles out in my 2X4 camper van for two delightful days before they brought out the heavy equipment and towed me across the channel and back to the real world.
