Best RV Parks & Resorts near Zavalla, TX

Several RV parks serve the Zavalla area, each with distinct layouts and hookup options. Nestled Pines RV Park offers 15 sites with electric, fifty/thirty-amp, sewer, and water hookups on mostly gravel pads that accommodate big rigs. Ford Chapel RV Park provides 40 sites with full hookups including a sanitary dump station, showers, and toilets. "We camped in Loop A during the week of Thanksgiving 2020. Very friendly volunteer gate attendants, but not sure when they work the gate as we tried to find them twice in one day and no one around," noted one visitor regarding a nearby Corps of Engineers campground. The Good Life RV Park in Burke caters exclusively to RVs with water, electric, and sewer connections, while Triple Creek RV Music Park in Woodville combines camping with music venues on its 75 sites.

Throughout the region, most RV parks remain open year-round with varying levels of amenities. Rayburn RV Hideout near Brookeland accepts pets and offers firewood for purchase, though many parks have limited or no shower facilities. Cell service varies significantly across the area, with AT&T coverage ranging from 1-4 bars depending on location. During peak seasons like Memorial Day weekend, advance reservations are strongly recommended as waterfront sites fill quickly. A review observed that "most asphalt site pads in this loop are in poor condition. Site 12 was not level side-to-side," highlighting the importance of bringing leveling blocks when visiting parks with aging infrastructure. Big rig access is available at most parks, though some feature tighter spacing between pull-through rv pads, particularly in older sections.

    Rainbow's End RV Park

The Escapees HQ at Rainbows End

If you are a full tie RVer you have probably heard of the Escapees. The Escapees is the largest mail forwarding service and the clyb caters to full time RVers. Livingston TX is their main Headquarters, they do have 2 other semi Headquarters in FL and SD. If you are a full timer you now you need a domicile address and a mailing address for many things, this is how we do it. They have over 17,000 subscribers to their mail forwarding service, we are one of them. We stopped by this July to get our domicile done, vehicle registration, drivers license, voter registration etc. It was hot we will not come back in July again.

The campground is split into 2 main areas. They have a lot of deeded lots for you to buy which has houses, motor homes, park trailer or just roof for your RV. They have long term areas, overnighter, short long term, weekly or daily. You do not need to be a member of the Escapees to camp here, but we hear in the winter it does get full.

Camping full hook ups, electric and water, or just dry camping. They have just got some new internet on the area we were camping in and it was good enough to stream. They have a pool, clb house, activity center, 2 laundries, meeting rooms and a lot to do even in the summer. Most site are fairly level most gravel but do have some concrete pads. If it wasn't so hot I am sure we would have enjoyed it even more. One nice thing is they have a care center, areas that you can set up your RV and if you have something wrong with you they will help you out, take you to Drs, provide meals, help you. This is nice for us older folks that we worry about what happens if we need long stay for treatments and we have no home base.

COE Sam Rayburn Reservoir San Augustine Park

Clean, quiet, spacious, and great lake views

1/26/23-1/30/23- This is a great COE campsite that is spacious, clean, quiet, and site#63 has lake views on 3 sides. A picnic table, fire-pit, lantern post, 30A electric, and water are provided. This is a back-in site that slopes significantly to the rear(lake side) though. I needed to lower the front of my 34’ fifth wheel trailer 16” to level it; L/R leveling was reasonable needing 1/2” on the right side. The grassy area around the site would be great for outdoor games and the water access would be great to fish from shore, boat access to the site, or swimming. The staff were very congenial and the dump station is conveniently located on the right side just before exiting the campground. Verizon 4G was 4-bars with 20Mbps download and 2Mbps upload speeds. I paid$13/night with my Interagency Senior Pass. Too bad that it was rainy most of the weekend and we didn’t have nicer weather.

    B.A. Steinhagen Lake Campground

    Southern Living

ALERT: USACE parks at Town Bluff no longer accepts cash, checks or money orders. Accepts credit or debit card

    DATES: year round

    SITES: 41 to reserve, 39 have water/electric

    FEES: $10.00-$45.00

    LIMIT: 14 days

Group day use facilities with shelter, boat ramp, dump station, gate house, camp host, flush toilets, playground, covered picnic table, accessibility, pull throughs, fish cleaning table, pedestal grill This campground is the best COE campground that we have visited. It is very well maintained and extremely large. Sites are very nicely spaced out. The cons: fire ants, deer flies, and mosquitoes. Pros: Well maintained, beautiful, peaceful, fishing, boating, trails. Love site 36 There is a free fishing pond for the exclusive use of children and individuals with special needs. It is stocked with catfish and rainbow trout. There are even trophy largemouth bass released in the pond by local fishermen. If you catch "the big one" please practice "catch and release" so someone else might enjoy. There are four well marked trails that meander through old growth hardwood forest. You will see huge southern magnolia and American beech trees. The trails are color coded and there is a very nice map available from the gate house.

This COE campground should be a benchmark for all other COE campgrounds. We will return.

    Rainbow's End RV Park

    Good Travel Stop

This park is owned by Escapees RV Club.  We joined Escapees for the benefits, which include discounted camping.  We've stayed at this park several times, particularly when in the learning process for our new RV, as there is a lot of support here.  A lot of full time RV'ers use Rainbow's End as their home base, and a lot of full timers stop here for long periods of time while moving across country.  I always learn a lot from these long time full-timers.

The sites are decent, with gravel driveways and full hookups for both 30 amp and 50 amp.  They have an area for dry camping as well. are not level, so be sure to bring your leveling blocks if your rig does't have a leveling system.

There are a couple of bath houses and laundry facilities.  The bathing areas are kept clean and are spacious, but nothing fancy.  There is a swimming pool which is open in summer, but we've never used it.  They also have a weighing station, although I never used it.  Propane delivery is available once a week.  Sign up in the office if you want to get on the schedule.

    Lake Livingston State Park Campground

    One of Our Favorites

We arrived 151 days after making our on-line reservations for the very busy Memorial Day weekend in Piney Shore Loop campground. This was our fourth camping adventure at Lake Livingston State Park in the Piney Shore Loop.

Pros EXTREMELY quiet during the Memorial Day weekend. Even tho not backed up to

lake, nice view of lake from Site#55. Double concrete pad as it is an accessible campsite. Very level concrete pad; no need to do any type of leveling. Nice early morning shade onto Site#55 Very good privacy from neighbor Site#54 and Site behind#48 Park ranger drive-thru about every four hours Restroom/showers good working condition, clean, ample hand soap and toilet paper. Recently paved park roads very nice upgrade Mosquitoes were drawn to those who strung lots of lights throughout their site, so many did not use those lights which resulted in good dark conditions for night sky viewing. 1-2 bars AT&T cell service. Lowes, Walmart and small HEB close by n the town of Livingston Cons. Campers requiring mobility assistance may find this campsite very challenging, even tho it does have a double wide concrete pad. Site#55 labeled as accessible but is very accessible unfriendly as it is not close to campground toilet shower facilities, fire ring is up a gravel hill on driver side of camper. Piney Shore Loop sewer hook up required 20 feet of stinky slinky. No privacy from Site#56. No privacy from the campground road. Picnic table in mud hole nearly the size of the table and very unleveled with one end higher than the other end. Unable to move picnic table as it is chained to concrete pylon. Picnic table not wheelchair accessible. No afternoon-to-evening shade what-so-ever. Site#56 campers permitted their dog to run without a leash. No park WIFI

    Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area

    Nice wooded campground

Pretty campground. Tall pine trees. Camped with our camper van along the loblolly loop. Not suitable for large rigs in this section. Level tent pads. Sites have access to the lake. Loved the tall trees. Restroom/shower rooms were very clean. See previous reviews about this. Paved roads & driveways in this section. No water & electric hookups in this section, but available in another section of the campground. Water spigot nearby for drinking water. Busy Hwy 7 is nearby; road noise from big rigs can get loud sometimes. AT&T cell/data service okay. No T-Mobile cell/data service. Would like to camp here again & explore some of the hiking trails.

    Lake Livingston State Park Campground

    FHU Lakefront Sites

We love this state park and it's one of our favorites! This was our third time camping here in the Piney Shores Loop. We arrived on Memorial Day for four nights with reservations made 54 days prior. We weren’t loving Piney Shores#52 back-in campsite much due to: Steep drop-off of the concert pad and the narrow roadway making backing in challenging, but not impossible for our 27ft trailer.  Any larger rigs might not be able to swing it.

The dirt area around the picnic table, fire pit and lantern pole was a huge MUD hole! What a mess due to daily rains.

No concrete pad under the picnic table, so your feet were in the MUD hole! HINT– Park Maintenance needs to apply some medium size gravel around the table and fire pit.

Picnic table (chained to the ground) and fire pit were right next to each other. WHO DESIGNS THESES CAMPSITES??

Power interruptions, albeit short. Very glad we had our power surge protector.

    We loved:

Very level concrete pad requiring no additional leveling efforts.

Huge campsite along the lakefront with access to launch kayak/canoe or even swim(which we didn’t).

Gorgeous sunsets over the lake. It was wonderful to sit at the fire facing the lake and watch the sunsets.

The squirrels that ate from our fingertips! It was also really amusing to find the squirrels VERY friendly. They just hoped up onto our laps and took peanuts in the shell from our fingertips!

Super quiet as only 6 full hook up campsites were occupied due to COVID operating restrictions.

    Lake Livingston State Park Campground

    TEXAS State park

We have stayed here 2 different times. The east section is a little older and smaller sites but was still able to find one for our 42’ coach. The “YAPUN” section is where we stayed last and was new and very nice, all the sites had concrete pads to park on and are fairly level. 30/50 amp service, water and sewer connections. They also have a central dump station. Lots of walking trails.

Guide to Zavalla

RV sites near Zavalla, Texas provide camping options within the East Texas Piney Woods region at elevations between 200-300 feet. What to do

Disc golf course access: Mission Dolores RV Park offers an on-site disc course for campers looking for casual recreation. The short walking trail includes a beautiful wildflower garden and kiosks with historical information. There is also an onsite disc course!"

Live music entertainment: Triple Creek RV Music Park combines camping with musical performances, making it unique among local options. One camper shared: "This is a cool site. They have plenty of full hookups available. Pavilions and buildings for gathering to enjoy jam sessions, whether playing or listening. Kids love dancing to the music."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Mission Dolores RV Park & Campground receives positive feedback for its maintenance standards. A reviewer stated: "It is so quiet and peaceful here. We came on a weekday, and the campground was not even half occupied. The grounds are neat, well-maintained, and clean. The sites are adequately spaced, but there is very little vegetation to provide privacy."

Rural setting with fireflies: The natural environment appeals to many visitors. One camper mentioned: "This is a tidy small RV park with trees (and FIREFLIES)! Easy in, easy out."

Friendly management: Ford Chapel RV Park earns praise for its staff despite infrastructure challenges. A camper noted: "Ford Chapel is one of those places where you know things would go off the rails if it wasn't for management. Tim, the park manager, is incredible. The WIFI, bath house and laundry is great and the other guests are usually quiet and friendly."

What you should know

Road conditions: Access to some campgrounds requires driving on unpaved roads that can become problematic in wet weather. A Triple Creek visitor warned: "The 2.5 mile old logging dirt road to get there was very nasty but doable."

Leveling requirements: Prepare with appropriate equipment as many sites aren't naturally level. One visitor to Triple Creek RV Music Park advised: "Bring lots of leveling blocks."

Late arrival planning: Contact campgrounds in advance if arriving after office hours. A camper shared this cautionary experience: "I arrived around 10:30 pm. I found the office but it was all dark & locked. There was a recreation room I guess next door that wasn't locked but no maps or signs or anything useful that I could see."

Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Country Club RV Resort provides play equipment for children. A visitor noted: "RV park has a pool, playground, driving range, hook ups, walking trails."

Music-oriented entertainment: Rainbow's End RV Park hosts regular activities that appeal to various age groups. Though primarily serving older campers, facilities remain family-friendly. One camper observed: "They have a pool, club house, activity center, 2 laundries, meeting rooms and a lot to do even in the summer."

Tips from RVers

Fiber internet access: Nestled Pines RV Park LLC offers high-quality connectivity. A recent visitor reported: "They had water, sewer, wifi and fiber connections."

Mobile connectivity: Cell service varies significantly by carrier throughout the region. One Rainbow's End RV Park camper advised: "If you have Tmobile cel phones or hotspots, this is not the RV park for you. We barely had cel phone reception, and our mobile hotspot was all but useless. Verizon works well here."

Varying pad conditions: Site surfaces range from concrete to gravel to dirt, affecting leveling needs. A Ford Chapel visitor noted: "The worst part is the lack of road and site grading and drainage. Utilities are fine. Full hookups, laundry room, 1 shower, good wifi. Roads are mostly dirt. Pads are mostly dirt and ungraded some have gravel."
