Sea Rim State Park Campground offers multiple accommodation options for campers with pets, including tent sites, RV spaces, and cabin rentals. Most campgrounds near Port Arthur maintain standard pet policies requiring leashes no longer than 6 feet, proof of current vaccinations, and proper waste disposal. Walter Umphrey State Park Campground, New Lloyd RV Park, and Gulf Coast RV Resort all welcome pets with similar guidelines. Campers should note that while these facilities permit pets, most require owners to maintain control of their animals at all times and not leave them unattended. Mosquitoes can be particularly problematic at Sea Rim, potentially affecting pets as much as humans, with some visitors reporting their dogs being swarmed by the tiny insects.

Beach camping with pets at Sea Rim provides direct access to both marsh and Gulf environments where dogs can explore varied terrain. The park features marsh boardwalks and beach areas where leashed pets are welcome, though alligators have been spotted in the marsh areas, necessitating extra vigilance with pets. Most campgrounds in the area offer minimal pet-specific amenities, so visitors should pack essentials like portable water bowls, waste bags, and insect repellent suitable for animals. During warmer months, the extreme mosquito presence at Sea Rim becomes particularly challenging for pet owners, with multiple reviewers noting they retreated to their enclosed RVs to escape the swarms. The beach areas typically offer better relief from insects due to coastal breezes.

      Walter Umphrey State Park Campground

      Did not camp here

Located at the west end of the Sabine causeway in Port Arthur, the facilities in this state park appear to be operated & maintained by Jefferson County. There are about 15 or so RV sites in a parking lot, all sites are close together. I could not find the price for these sites. Overnight parking appears to be allowed along the perimeter road; sign indicates $10. Could not find a pay station nor a host. There is a rest room, but it's locked with a keypad. Two Porta Potties bear by. Could be a good place for an overnight, but have no more info. Perhaps a future reviewer canaddmoee info.

      Sea Rim State Park Campground

      Miles of Beach Camping

Or stay in the small, open campground with picnic tables, fire rings, water and electric hook up and a nearby comfort station. There’s an outside cold water shower and an elevated walkway crossing wetland to the beach.

The birding is absolutely fantastic so come with binoculars. I saw great flocks of Avocets feeding at the waters edge along with Willets, and a variety of sandpipers and terns including Caspian. There’s a paved trail to hike through the wetlands. Bug spray is essential.

Beach camping is available to any vehicle or camper. The upper beach sand is hard packed like a road and it goes for about three miles on the East side and about 10 on the West side.

I can’t say enough about the staff who became dedicated to rescuing me after a major storm dumped three inches of rain in a couple of hours causing an inland pond to overflow cutting a channel through the beach to the Gulf. I was stranded about two miles out in my 2X4 camper van for two delightful days before they brought out the heavy equipment and towed me across the channel and back to the real world.

Gas up in Port Arthur before driving down.

      Sea Rim State Park Campground

The mosquitoes are serious here, but the beach is gorgeous.

This was a spur-of-the-moment trip from NW Arkansas so we could dip our toes in the ocean in the middle of winter. It's unfortunate that you have to go through Port Arthur to get to the state park, but totally worth it once you get there. WARNING: the mosquitoes are serious here. We have an Aliner and although we use pool noodles to seal gaps in the A-frame's roof, they found a way in--hundreds of them. We only stayed the one night because of it. Having said that, if you have a class A/B/C camper, you should be fine. I wouldn't recommend it to tent campers even with the best bug spray...and we went in December! Clean, beautiful facilities. You can park in a site, or if you don't want/need utilities, you're allowed to camp on the beach.

      Beachside RV Park

      Best place in Bolivar Peninsula

This was such a blissful place to start my Texas snowbird trip. As a solo female traveler in a campervan I felt so incredibly safe and welcomed to this campground. Nancy and Butch are the kindest campground hosts I've ever encountered. They ensured to check in with me regularly during my two week stay, the bathroom, shower and laundry facilities were maintained consistently, and the dog park and closeness to the beach was perfect for my dog's daily exercise. For the reasonable price, I felt this campground delivered above and beyond. If I hadn't scheduled another campground, I would have stayed longer. Thank you to all at Beachside RV. You made my stay memorable.

      Bolivar Peninsula RV Park

      Still needs work

Pros: office lady very nice, site 1 has 1 tree for shade, ferry w/ our travel trailer from Galveston Island was easier than expected, large dog park, close to Camp Margaritaville.

Cons: gravel sites, bathroom super gross with no TP, dirt rv road kicks up lots of dust, right on noisy highway.

      Beachside RV Park

      Affordable, Convenient, Amenity Rich

This is the nicest RV Park on the Bolivar Peninsula / Crystal Beach area. Truly. So well maintained, and quiet peaceful setting.

We were surprised that it had a nice dog park, indoor laundry, shower, wifi, gazebo for hanging out in and more, all included in the rate!

      Close to the beach.

Walk to the gas station and restaurants.

They are running a winter special.

      Beachside RV Park

Best RV Park for the BEST price

My family and I stayed her for a couple months. I loved the community and the friendly hopsilitaty the staff brought us. The dog park is huge and my labrador loves it. The beach is just a short walk there and super easy to get to. We love the quietness of the park also.

      Boomtown USA RV Resort

      Great Place to Stay!

We stayed at Boomtown for a midway resting point from New Orleans to Houston. I am so glad we chose this park. It is right off interstate 10 so for us it was so easy to get on and off when arriving/leaving. The park is very clean, and easy to settle in to your spot. We stayed at lot 107 and had a great view of the park and the pool, along with easy access to the dog park. Would highly recommend!

    Guide to Port Arthur

Sea Rim State Park offers a unique Gulf Coast camping experience where both beach and marsh environments converge, located 20 miles southwest of Port Arthur, Texas. The park spans 4,141 acres with 5.2 miles of Gulf shoreline and includes primitive beach camping without amenities alongside developed sites with hookups. Camping areas sit at near sea level, making flooding possible during storms or high tides.

    What to do

Kayaking in marsh areas: Sea Rim State Park features designated paddling trails with rental options. "Great kayaking trail map and recommendations from the rangers on where to go. There is hiking as well. Spend an afternoon or a week here," notes a visitor at Sea Rim State Park Campground.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple campgrounds provide fishing access, including private lakes and coastal waters. At End Of The Road RV Park, visitors appreciate the "90ft dock, and aluminum boats free for residents. Excellent fishing."

Beach activities: Beach camping allows direct Gulf access for swimming and shell collecting. One camper at Sea Rim State Park shared, "You travel down to coastal road find yourself at this quaint little state park where there are actual sites and bathrooms and outdoor showers… But what a lot of people don't know is that if you pull onto the beach and drive either on the west or east to beach do you find a spot in the sand."

    What campers like

Direct beach access: The combination of developed facilities near undeveloped beach areas provides flexibility. "Not a great beach to camp on in stormy weather. No rock/sea wall to slow the surge or wave action. Price is right at $10 plus day use fee," reports a camper at Sea Rim State Park Campground.

Cabin options: Several dog friendly campgrounds near Port Arthur offer cabins as alternatives to tent or RV camping. At Sea Rim, a visitor noted: "We got a cabin and it was really nice: AC, unfurnished kitchen, comfy bunkbeds, screened deck (bring your own kitchen supplies and bedding)."

Wildlife viewing: The marsh areas provide excellent opportunities for wildlife observation. "The nature trail over the marsh was really cool, we saw lots of alligators and birds," states a review about Sea Rim State Park, highlighting why many pet-friendly camping options near Port Arthur require leashed pets.

    What you should know

Mosquito preparedness: The coastal wetland environment creates significant insect pressure, particularly at dusk. A visitor at Boomtown USA RV Resort advises: "The beach does have a lot of bees or wasps of some sort that are living in the sand so you have to wear shoes until you get in the water."

Gate closure times: Some parks strictly enforce entrance hours. One camper reported about Sea Rim: "I've been camping around the country for four months straight now and this is the only park - national, state, regional or otherwise - that I've encountered that literally locks their gate at night. The time listed on google or their website is a hard closing time, not just when the ranger goes off duty."

Weather considerations: Coastal weather patterns affect camping conditions. "Sea Rim State Park is a strange but nice place. Having to pass by the refinery on the way in to the state park, the campgrounds make up for it by being right along the water with every camping necessity for a night on the beach!"

    Tips for camping with families

Safety around water: Families camping with children should maintain close supervision near both marsh and Gulf waters. At Hidden Lake RV Park, "A small lake with free use of canoes and peddle boat available" provides controlled water recreation options.

Pet-friendly activities: Many Port Arthur area campgrounds welcome pets but require proper management. "We stayed in site 30, which is a pull through large enough to accommodate big rigs," notes a visitor at Hidden Lake, which offers pet-friendly camping near Port Arthur with enough space for families.

Recreational options: Look for campgrounds with dedicated facilities for children. Boomtown USA RV Resort receives praise as visitors note, "They have everything you need for a great family vacation," with amenities including "a pool and jacuzzi area is wonderful. Very well maintained. Huge lake to enjoy."

    Tips from RVers

Level site availability: Many parks offer concrete pads suitable for larger rigs. At Gulf Coast RV Resort, "The pull thru spots are very generous, we have a 41 foot 5th wheel," says one reviewer about this dog-friendly RV park near Port Arthur.

Hookup positioning: Some sites present challenges with utility connections. "Our site had dog poop over it when we arrived so they do not check the sites before you arrive. The pad is buried into the ground which cause hills into the grass. A great way to break an ankle. It also caused a hill for the sewer hose to run uphill," reports one RVer at Gulf Coast RV Resort.

Road noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some campgrounds. At Boomtown USA RV Resort, a camper noted: "Nice park but RIGHT on I-10 and the highway noise is bad. Awesome laundry and bathroom facilities. Lovely lounge area beautiful lake and a nice little beach."
