Lake Livingston State Park Campground welcomes pets throughout its several camping loops, with spacious sites positioned among pine trees. Pets must be on leashes no longer than 6 feet at all times when outside vehicles or campsites. The park features multiple pet-friendly accommodation options including tent sites, RV spots with full hookups, and screened shelters. Campers appreciate the well-maintained trails suitable for dog walking, with the Trinity Trace Trail offering flat terrain ideal for pets. Wolf Creek Park and Rainbow's End RV Park also accommodate pets with designated areas for relief breaks. Most campgrounds maintain a two-pet limit per site, though some may allow additional pets for an extra fee. The squirrels at Lake Livingston are notably friendly and may approach pets, requiring owners to maintain control of their animals. Local campgrounds are searchable through The Dyrt's listings.

Hiking trails throughout the Livingston area campgrounds provide excellent exercise opportunities for leashed dogs. The boardwalk trail at Lake Livingston State Park forms a 1-mile loop through the forest with several benches, making it suitable for campers with mobility-restricted pets. During summer months, mosquitoes can be particularly aggressive in this region, so pet owners should bring appropriate insect repellent safe for animals. Woodsy Hollow Campground & RV Resort offers additional pet-friendly camping options with more wooded surroundings. Water-loving dogs particularly enjoy the lake access at several campgrounds, though owners should be cautious of potentially slippery or rocky lake entries. The lake bottom has many large rocks, tree stumps and moss that can make swimming challenging for pets. Most park stores sell basic pet supplies, and the town of Livingston has both a Walmart and small HEB for additional pet necessities.

Could use updates to some sites

We spend Thanksgiving in this campground. We arrived shortly after checkin and had limited selection of sites. The person at checkin did have a good site recommendation. Beware that not all sites have full hookups. For the size of the place I would have explained small convenience store but they only had ice. Our site backed up to some trees so that was nice. Good dog park and plenty of activities available. I walk the dog a lot and run and road around the grounds needs to be repaved, lots of pot holes and uneven areas.

      Lake Livingston State Park Campground

Just a hop from Houston to beautiful nature

Lake Livingston State Park is one of our regular visits. During the school year it is hard to head out on a Friday, drive 2-3 hours and then setup in the dark for a weekend camping trip. Lake Livingston is just over an hour from our house and has lots to offer. They recently rebuilt one of the camping loops to where now this is one of the few state parks in Texas that have Full Hookups. Not all loops have Full Hookups but a couple do.

Like most state parks in Texas the sites here are large and offer a lot of shade. Each site will have a table and a fire ring. There are tons of hiking trails and geocaches throughout the park. It is also close to shops in town so that if you forget something you are only about 15 minutes from a Walmart. There is a shop on site that has most of the essentials.

Each time is a new experience

This is our 4th trip here. And we have already planned our 5th. We love how big this park is. Each time we come and get a new site, it’s like a whole new park. Nestled in the trees our first time out with rocks, and today we are on a flat concrete pad. Lots of room to bike. We love the lake. We haven’t even used the pool or facilities because of Covid but we still love it here. Everyone complains of the roads but nothing different than the state parks we use. So far we have had no problems with the equipment or hook ups. Bath houses are nice but we don’t use them. The dog park is perfect for you and your puppers to make new friends. There is a boat launch and pier for fishing. Plus catfish cove. I did not have any luck in the little bass pond. I will say, this place gets busy on a Holiday but the kids like having so many others to play with. We especially loved our evening basketball tournaments.

    Guide to Livingston

Lake Livingston State Park Campground accommodates pets throughout its various camping loops and sites. The park maintains clean, well-maintained grounds with spacious tent and RV sites where leashed pets are welcome. Campers with dogs have access to numerous hiking trails and lakefront areas where pets can enjoy the outdoors alongside their owners. Wolf Creek Park and Rainbow's End RV Park also offer pet-friendly accommodations with full hookup sites. Most campgrounds in the area require pets to remain on leash at all times, with designated pet waste stations available throughout the grounds. On The Lake RV Resort extends pet privileges to their cabin accommodations, providing a rare option for travelers seeking pet-friendly indoor lodging. The squirrels at Lake Livingston are remarkably friendly, approaching campers directly, which may require extra attention to pet management. Local campgrounds are searchable through The Dyrt's listings.

Hiking trails throughout Lake Livingston State Park provide excellent exercise opportunities for dogs, with the Trinity Trace Trail offering flat terrain suitable for walking pets of all sizes. The boardwalk trail features a one-mile loop with benches for rest breaks, creating an accessible option for older pets or those with mobility limitations. Water-loving dogs appreciate the lake access points, though owners should be cautious of the rocky, stumpy lake bottom that could pose hazards to pets. Nearby Livingston town provides emergency veterinary services and pet supplies through Walmart and other retailers approximately 15 minutes from the park entrance.
