First time I am Escapee’s Campground

I have only been here one night so far and my first impression began with the office staff. They were so friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are fairly old however they were very clean. Checked out the laundry room which was also clean. I haven’t used it yet but the machines look decent and clean. Because I am an Escapees member my rate for a 30 Amp back in space is 22.00. I consider that very reasonable.

The Escapees HQ at Rainbows End

If you are a full tie RVer you have probably heard of the Escapees. The Escapees is the largest mail forwarding service and the clyb caters to full time RVers. Livingston TX is their main Headquarters, they do have 2 other semi Headquarters in FL and SD. If you are a full timer you now you need a domicile address and a mailing address for many things, this is how we do it. They have over 17,000 subscribers to their mail forwarding service, we are one of them. We stopped by this July to get our domicile done, vehicle registration, drivers license, voter registration etc. It was hot we will not come back in July again.

The campground is split into 2 main areas. They have a lot of deeded lots for you to buy which has houses, motor homes, park trailer or just roof for your RV. They have long term areas, overnighter, short long term, weekly or daily. You do not need to be a member of the Escapees to camp here, but we hear in the winter it does get full.

Camping full hook ups, electric and water, or just dry camping. They have just got some new internet on the area we were camping in and it was good enough to stream. They have a pool, clb house, activity center, 2 laundries, meeting rooms and a lot to do even in the summer. Most site are fairly level most gravel but do have some concrete pads. If it wasn't so hot I am sure we would have enjoyed it even more. One nice thing is they have a care center, areas that you can set up your RV and if you have something wrong with you they will help you out, take you to Drs, provide meals, help you. This is nice for us older folks that we worry about what happens if we need long stay for treatments and we have no home base.

A beautiful place

We were greeted by a camp host who provided us with a map and a few local directions. She even provided a handout for obtaining inspection, registration & licensing for our Texas residency. We investigated this issue before embarking on this journey but weren’t told we’d need social security cards in order to get a driver’s license. For those looking for residency, bring a current license, and passport with your Social Security card.

As for the Escapees campground, The sites are large, either grass or gravel and offer full hookups which we appreciate being it’s Aug. - warm & humid. Most of the residents we’ve met are like us, full timers but here for years or months. Many live in what are similar to park models. Most are friendly and tend to be our age (64)or older. For members, there is a Care Center that we haven’t been able to visit due to Covid.

The sounds of cicadas are much like a cacophony of lumberjacks. I love the sound.

Livingston lake is huge but we haven’t had the time to visit. Would be a refreshing change in this heat. There is a clean pool here at the park.

Great for OLD People

Park founded by RVrs. Has Care Center for those that no longer travel. People have little to do but complain about others. Amenities are good.

Quiet & Convenient Services

We stayed a week here and were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed the campground. We came here to setup our mail service with Escapees. The services offered here with Escapees are great! This has been the most quiet peaceful nights rest we’ve had at a campground so far. We stayed in site 91 and highly recommend this side of the park. All sites here were very level and we did not have any trees over us. Ours was a pull through site.

Be sure to buy some local Ruby’s honey next door! Delicious! We also had excellent friendly service at the Smokehouse Tavern just down the road.

Good Travel Stop

This park is owned by Escapees RV Club.  We joined Escapees for the benefits, which include discounted camping.  We've stayed at this park several times, particularly when in the learning process for our new RV, as there is a lot of support here.  A lot of full time RV'ers use Rainbow's End as their home base, and a lot of full timers stop here for long periods of time while moving across country.  I always learn a lot from these long time full-timers.

The sites are decent, with gravel driveways and full hookups for both 30 amp and 50 amp.  They have an area for dry camping as well. are not level, so be sure to bring your leveling blocks if your rig does't have a leveling system.

There are a couple of bath houses and laundry facilities.  The bathing areas are kept clean and are spacious, but nothing fancy.  There is a swimming pool which is open in summer, but we've never used it.  They also have a weighing station, although I never used it.  Propane delivery is available once a week.  Sign up in the office if you want to get on the schedule.

Gravel pads with picnic table

We spent two months here, due to sheltering in place during COVID-19.

I will say up front, if you have Tmobile cel phones or hotspots, this is not the RV park for you. We barely had cel phone reception, and our mobile hotspot was all but useless.

Verizon works well here. Cannot confirm any other provider. RV park wifi sucks, and regularly drops signal. Park staff cannot help, as park underwent half-implemented wifi install that doesn’t cover more than 100 ft from towers/repeaters. This brought down our park rating.

We only got to use the laundry room and restrooms, the other amenities like pool and clubhouse were closed.

Their restrooms are also their tornado shelters. They do not have a dedicated shelter. During our time, one tornado passed 10 miles south but did not touch down, and one F3 tornado touched down 20 miles NW of park (lots of damage, 3 dead).
