      Great place to camp

We love the Live oaks campground in Edisto Beach State Park. Level sites with plenty of privacy. We are in site 120 this trip and we have stayed in sites 118 and 122 on previous trips. these sites back onto the salt marsh which gives you some incredible scenery just behind the site

Red Gate Farms - RV Resort

A Wonderful RV Resort with Easy Access to Savannah!

We really enjoyed our stay at Red Gate Farms RV Resort. It’s a lovely place with a peaceful, country atmosphere, yet conveniently located just a short distance from downtown Savannah. A great spot to relax and unwind after a day of sightseeing.

One of the biggest bonuses is the Old Town Trolley service, which picks you up at the resort at 9 AM, takes you into downtown Savannah, and brings you back at 4 PM. What a fantastic way to explore the city without having to worry about driving, parking, or navigating the busy streets!

The setting is beautiful, with plenty of open space and a relaxing atmosphere that makes it feel like you’re miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

If you’re visiting Savannah in an RV, Red Gate Farms is definitely worth considering. You get the best of both worlds — a peaceful place to stay and easy access to everything this historic city has to offer. We’d happily stay here again!

      Heirloom Hamlet

The place was very quiet and the host was wonderful.

We had a great visit. We are self-contained in our Van so we didn’t have to use the facilities. The site was secluded and we were told we were welcome to walk around. He also let us know that if we wanted, we could use the sewer on one of the other sites that wasn’t being used. Also he gave us free firewood very welcoming and friendly. Definitely going back.

      Lake Jasper RV Park

      Nice Lots, Clean Park

I stopped here briefly on my way north because it was convenient to 95. I was a little frustrated at arrival because the office was closed early and I was never given a site number. Thankfully somebody was able to get me sorted. The site itself was nice and spacious. All of the amenities looked new ans clean. Someone in the park left out a large dog that barked all night. Hopefully those scenarios aren't the norm.

      Skidaway Island State Park Campground

Stone’s Throw to Savannah for Live Oak Shaded Camping & Salt Marshes

Just a short drive SE of downtown Savannah, Skidaway Island SP Campground offers a peaceful escape immersed in marshes, maritime forests, and Spanish moss-draped live oaks. Set along Georgia’s Intracoastal Waterway, the park feels remote while still easily accessible not just to civilization, but arguably one of the greatest little cities in the entire South, making it perfect for folks who want to grab a pristine slice of nature without having to sacrifice comfort and / or quick access to shops, restaurants and more salt water taffy shops on the Savannah riverfront than you can imagine.

The campground hosts some 87 tent, trailer and RV sites, many of which include water and electric hookups (usually 30/50 amp), and about 17 premium spots with full hookups. Sites are gravel, shaded, and include a picnic table, fire ring and grill making it ideal for gathering around the campfire. On-site you’ll find incredibly well-kept and clean restrooms with flush toilets, hot showers, a laundry room, dump station and an excellent CG store near the front of the property (near the entrance) for staples like firewood, snacks, ice and souvenirs. There are 3 yurts that the SP will rent you offering enhanced comfort with A/C, heat, kitchens, bathrooms and screened porches - perfect for those seeking a bit more luxury. Pets are allowed in campsites but not in the cabins. Additional features include three pioneer group campsites, a group shelter, laundry facilities, playgrounds and even outdoor fitness equipment with Wi-Fi available at the park office.

What sets Skidaway Island apart from other SPs is, yes, its proximity to an exquisite city, but very much so, the wildlife you'll discover here with deer, fiddler crabs, raccoons and egrets being frequent sightings, which you’ll encounter while experiencing the six miles of hiking trails weaving through salt marsh and maritime forest. The boardwalk and observation tower over the Skidaway Narrows offer scenic glimpses of birdlife and nature. Engaging ranger programs, geocaching and an interpretive center deepen the experience. While close enough to Savannah, if you are not familiar with the area, you should definitely check out Tybee Island (about 30–40 minutes away) to easily combine camping with beach day-trips.

Insider Tips? Oh yeah, I’ve got quite a few for you: (1) For big rigs, book one of the premium full-hookup pull-through sites as they’re roomy and easier to access, although the low-hanging Spanish moss can be tricky to maneuver but will give you tons of shade and creates a peaceful vibe; (2) Even if you’re not staying in a yurt, stop by and check them out as they’re very well made, cozy and well-equipped; (3) Take the Big Ferry and Marsh Trail to the observation tower for sunrise or sunset wildlife viewing where you’ll be richly rewarded, but be sure to bring either that double-walled thermos of coffee for early AM sipping or that cocktail shaker set pre-loaded with your favorite elixir for proper sun-downers; (4) One of the biggest ‘pro tips’ I could give anyone coming to Skidaway is LOAD UP ON FIREWOOD *** BEFORE *** you arrive as every imaginable place that sells firewood within a 20 mile radius was completely out – and while the CG store has a firewood box in front of the store, it was either always locked or out of wood by the time we stopped by; (5) Another huge ‘pro tip’ is given the very close proximity to Publix, which is literally right outside the CG, you don’t really need to load up your coolers too much as you can simply go there whenever you need something, so let Publix keep your supplies cool and save yourself some packing!; (6) Beware of ant infestations – the little guys were literally EVERYWHERE, so I was grateful that I remembered to pack 1 can of ant spray from another bad camping experience, so we sprayed a perimeter around our tent and we were fine; (7) You will also want to be mindful that the black-eyed furry bandits (racoons) were INCREDIBLY aggressive and would actually come straight up to our picnic table and grab things WHILE WE WERE EATING and tried to run away with our bags, food and even a small pot!; and (8) When you grow weary of conjuring up that next meal from your cooler and want to try out some local fare, these are some nearby joints I'd recommend: Castaways, Sandfly BBQ where you’ll want to definitely gnosh on the smoked chicken, baked beans and cole slaw, Crystal Beer Parlor for old school cheesburger’s in a century’s old grocery store and Loc’s Chicken & Waffles, but if you want something truly transformation, venture into Savannah for fantastic dining at The Grey with its sizzlin’ smoking pig and Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House for succulent fried chicken – both of which require advance reservations and likely a better outfit than the one you might be camping in – and finish an excellent bit of dining with some of the best ice cream in the universe over at Leopold’s Ice Cream Parlor.

      Happy Camping!

      Savannah Lakes RV Resort

      Great RV Resort!

Wonderful resort with outstanding amenities. Clean and well kept.

    Guide to Beaufort

RV campgrounds near Beaufort, South Carolina offer diverse camping experiences beyond standard amenities, with options ranging from secluded woodland settings to waterfront properties. The region experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers reaching 90°F and mild winters rarely dropping below 40°F. Most campgrounds in the area require advance booking 2-4 months ahead during peak season from March through October.

    What to Do

Fishing at nearby ponds: At Spacious Skies Savannah Oaks, campers can enjoy fishing in the adjacent river. "There is a nice store that's part of the campground, is also fishing and a boat ramp," notes one visitor. Watch for wildlife while fishing as another camper mentions "there was a gator!!!!"

Historic exploration: Within 30 minutes of most Beaufort campgrounds, you can visit Fort Pulaski National Monument. "We also visited Fort Pulaski and walked the trails over there," shares one camper from River's End Campground & RV Park. The fort offers ranger programs and self-guided tours for $10 per adult.

Horseback riding: Some properties near Beaufort offer equestrian activities. "Trail rides are available," mentions a camper who stayed at Red Gate Farms - RV Resort. The 200-acre farm property provides a natural setting for riding among Spanish moss-draped oaks.

    What Campers Like

Modern shower facilities: Many campers highlight exceptional bathroom facilities at newer RV parks. "The bathhouse and private shower area were 5-star hotel quality," states one guest at Hilton Head National RV Resort. Another visitor adds the facilities "reminded me of a high end hotel resort."

Outdoor recreation areas: Campgrounds in the region often provide recreational spaces beyond pools. "They have basketball, pickleball, splash pad, and a nice playground," notes a camper about Hilton Head National. Another RV park visitor mentions "a great, big dog park & an indoor, air conditioned dog spa with several really nice dog wash stations with temp controlled water."

Specialized camping areas: Some RV parks offer designated camping sections. "They have an area for adults only and then the larger area caters to families," reports one visitor. These specialized areas allow for different camping experiences within the same resort.

    What You Should Know

Advance golf cart rentals: If planning to use golf carts at RV resorts, check regulations first. One camper at Heirloom Hamlet mentions, "Limited sites, so if you're looking for something different, non commercial, this is the place." Some resorts restrict personal golf carts but offer rentals with advance reservation.

Site spacing variations: Space between campsites varies significantly between campgrounds. Some campers report, "The sites are close together. If you have that expectation and get past that your neighbor will be close, then it is a nice place." Others note tight conditions: "The spots are stacked on top of each other, and it's all gravel."

Bathroom facilities differ: While newer resorts offer premium facilities, other campgrounds have more basic or alternative setups. "Toilet is liquid in the front and solid in the back, so everyone has to sit down to use the toilet," explains a camper about one eco-friendly campground. Another notes, "The shower is outside, with an open bottom. Heated water and changing room with a mirror."

    Tips for Camping with Families

Pool amenities for children: Kids particularly enjoy water features at certain campgrounds. "The kids loved the pool and lazy river. They were begging to be able to go back soon," shares a family that visited Hilton Head National RV Resort with four children. Some resorts provide complimentary pool floats and cabana areas.

Pet-friendly accommodations: For families traveling with pets, look for parks with dedicated pet amenities. "We did take our Maltese and he ended up needing a bath so my girls took him to the dog wash area which they said was set up like a groomers shop," notes one family camper.

Close proximity to beaches: When camping with children near Beaufort, beach access is often a priority. "2 blocks from north beach," mentions a camper at Green Acres RV Camping. Another camper adds, "Beach access is a bike ride away," making it convenient for family outings without moving vehicles.

    Tips from RVers

Site surface conditions: RVers report varying pad conditions across campgrounds. "Our auto level wasn't working but we were able to manually level with no problem," notes one RV owner. Another mentions, "Nice concrete pad, pull through and we are just going to leave the car connected," highlighting the convenience of well-designed sites.

Internet connectivity variability: WiFi quality differs dramatically between properties. "The internet is GOOD! I have streamed some HD video and it is solid," reports one RVer. Others recommend bringing a WiFi extender: "Little to no service for Verizon by the way, however they did have WiFi but I would recommend using a WiFi extender once that was set up it worked great."

Full hookup specifications: Not all full-hookup sites include the same amenities. "Full hook ups with a state of the art Eaton control pedestal for your water, cable and electric connections," describes one satisfied RVer. However, another camper advises, "Don't forget to take a coax cable for the tv," indicating that while cable hookups may be available, equipment needs vary by park.
