Susan Creek Campground is well known for its beautiful setting along the emerald-green waters of the North Umpqua Wild and Scenic River. Nestled under the canopy of a mature forest, the campsites are surrounded by trees up to seven feet in diameter. It is a short drive from the Umpqua National Forest, which boasts incredible glacial-cut mountain slopes across 984,602 acres of forest. The campground features 29 campsites, all sites are reservation only until further notice. Reservations can be made at Recreation.gov or by calling the reservation line 1-877-444-6777
Hiking, picnicking, and relaxing are the primary activities at the campground. Well-developed trails on both the east and the west ends of the campground wind through tall trees and lush green understory providing views of wildlife such as the resident blacktail deer and soaring osprey. In spring and fall, salmon and steelhead trout come upriver to spawn, providing good fishing opportunities. Fishing on this stretch of the river is limited to fly-fishing only. The river also attracts swimmers and whitewater rafters and kayakers.
Susan Creek is on the western edge of the Cascade Mountains, set along the famous North Umpqua River. You will be treated to sounds of the rushing river as it weaves its way through volcanic bedrock. majestic fir, cedar, and hemlock trees dominate the mountainous region.
The campground is centrally located, with easy access to nearby rafting, fly-fishing, mountain biking, picnicking and waterfall viewing. The 79-mile long North Umpqua Trail is a great place to hike or mountain bike, and can be reached from the campground by either trail or road. The Susan Creek Falls trail winds through a forest of diverse tree and plant species, ending at the stunning Susan Creek Falls. Take a drive along the Rogue-Umpqua National Scenic Byway yielding gorgeous views of mountain peaks, forested canyons, and alpine lakes.

The park includes a 48 site campground, playground, 27 slip marina with accommodations for some dry moorage, designated swimming area, boat ramp, two large group day use facilities with electricity and water features. Baker Bay has parking for 183 cars and 51 car/trailer. Campground features ADA restrooms and showers and a single vault restroom. Day use area has flushing restrooms, open picnic areas, horse shoe pits, and a volleyball court. A primitive trail on the east side of the campground runs 0.8 miles to the east property boundary.

Schwarz Campground is located below Dorena Lake in Oregon's Southern Willamette Valley. The campground is approximately five miles from the city of Cottage Grove. A variety of recreational opportunities are available, including fishing, boating, swimming and hiking. A number of historic covered bridges can also be found in the area.
Dorena Lake is a great location for boating, water skiing, fishing and swimming. Nearby Baker Bay County Park offers a boat ramp and marina. The Row River Trail stretches 14 miles from downtown Cottage Grove, past the Dorena Dam and along the entire north side of the lake. This popular path is open tor hiking, biking and horseback riding. The Cottage Grove Scenic Byway Tour meanders past seven historic covered bridges in the area. The bridges were built in the 1920s and 30s, and some are still in use today.
Dorena Lake is situated in the low foothills of the Calapooya Mountains. The campground is surrounded by a diverse mix of marshland, coniferous forests and grasslands. The weather is generally mild during the recreation season with temperatures ranging from the low 50s to the upper 90s. Chances of precipitation are high from May through mid-June.
Reservation changes or cancellations can be made through Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Cancelling/Changing a Reservation __A $10.00 service fee will apply if you change or cancel your reservation. The $10.00 service fee will be deducted from the refund amount. Depending on when you cancel in relation to your arrival day, it may be considered a late cancellation (see below). Late Cancellations Individual Campsites: A customer who cancels a reservation the day before or on the day of arrival will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee (not to exceed the total paid for the original reservation). Cancellations for a one-night reservation will forfeit the entire amount paid and will not be subject to an additional service fee. Group Facility: Customers who cancel a group overnight facility reservation less than 14 days before the arrival date will pay a $10.00 service fee AND forfeit the first night's use fee. No-Shows A no-show customer is one who does not arrive at a campground and does not cancel the reservation by check-out time on the day after the scheduled arrival date. Staff will hold a campsite until 2pm on the day following the scheduled arrival date. No-shows are assessed $20.00 service fee and forfeit the first nights recreation fee for a campsite. Early Departures If a customer departs prior to the scheduled check-out date, they may be eligible for a partial refund. Please notify staff at the facility if you depart early to allow others to use the site. Customers may notify the call center to request a refund of remaining unused nights. If a customer requests a refund for an early departure after the facility check-out time has passed, the customer will not be refunded for that night and is eligible for a refund on any additional nights that will not be used. Refunds Customers may submit a refund request through their Recreation.gov profile within 7 days of the end date of their reservation. Customers may also initiate a refund request through the call center at any time after their reservation has ended. Debit or Credit Card Purchases: Refunds for debit or credit card payments will be issued as a credit to the original card used to pay. Check or Cash Purchases: Recreation.gov will mail a Treasury check for refunds of cash, check, or money order payments to the address associated with the reservation. You may update the address at the time you request the refund. It may take up to 6-8 weeks for the Treasury check to arrive. Please make sure your address is up to date in your customer profile.

If you're quick enough on the draw, you can rent a yurt from most Oregon state campgrounds. These sell out fast though so if you want a bit of glamping, plan it out in advance. The dog we were watching loved it and I think the yurt was best for him since he'd have been scared of the tent. Only a couple of the yurts are designated pet friendly. A short walk leads to a kids play area and the beach isn't too far away.

ScoutWe flew into Oregon and drove down the coast from Portland. Tugman is more towards the southern end of the Oregon Coast but in and around the Oregon Dunes area. Very nice facilities and we stayed in a yurt there. It was a nice mix of tent and rv camping. Nice and shady spots. The yurts were awesome:)
pro tip—we made our reservations way in advance. I would highly recommend that if you know you’re going to book as soon as possible, 6 months out if possible. We got the last yurt available for the time period we were out there.

For a small campground the deluxe yurts were huge. Much larger than the rustic yurts available in other Oregon State parks, the deluxe yurt had acres of space. The kitchen had an almost full sized fridge, a microwave, and a sink. The shower in the bathroom was not as nice as in the deluxe cabins elsewhere, but there was plenty of towel bars to dry all of your gear on. The small heater had a hard time heating all of the space. The large skylight had lovely star viewing when the clouds cleared. Since it was the middle of the week in February there was no noise from the surrounding ATV area, indeed, no ATVs around at all. The trail around tiny Lake Marie was well drained and not soggy, with several connections to the campground. Our yurt had views of the other yurts, try 19 for a view of the lake yet still dog friendly. The front porch did not offer any shelter from the rain.

Site Quality: We were in a deluxe RV site that had a level gravel camper pad, electric hookup, fire ring, and picnic table. Unlike most RV parks, there was a decent amount of foliage between most sites to provide a measure of privacy.
Bath/Shower House: Two toilets, two sinks, and two showers. Clean but limited privacy for the toilets with just a curtain. Bench and hooks are outside of showers with no other separation so there is a lack of privacy there as well (did not use the shower so I cannot comment on how well it worked, although they looked nice).

We arrived later than planned (just before dark) and it was cold and rainy the next day so we were not able to take advantage of the many nearby recreation activities but the staff recommended a nearby waterfall hike that we could do in inclement weather. We would definitely consider returning during better weather.
GuideYou can walk to the dunes or hike around Lake Marie. Gorgeous plants, wildlife, and amazing mushrooms in November. I met a wild turkey by the lighthouse. The campground is a mix of tent and RV sites plus cabins and yurts. There is also a separate area with deluxe yurts. AT&T signal is strong so I was able to work from home during my whole stay, even with constant zoom meetings.

W stayed in a cabin last time, but that loop is closed for construction until 2019.
This time it was the delux yurt, which sleeps up to 9 people, has it's own bathroom with toilet, sink and shower, microwave, fridge, kitchen sink,TV, DVD player and heater that will cook you out if you want it to. Outside comes with a porch, picnic bench and 4 burner gas grill. Fantastic for group rental! We had 5 adults and it was a ton of space!
The yurts are just up the hill from the lake where you can go fishing and hike the approximately 1 mile long trail.
There is also a day use area with benches and a small sandy beach.

LegendGeneral: 54-site campground (plus a hiker/biker camp) that is a mix of water/electric sites, no hookup sites, cabins, yurts, and deluxe yurts.
Site Quality: Camper pads are paved but most are not very long (I don’t remember when reserving if there was a length restriction, but I did not see any large Class As and doubt they would fit in any of the sites). Site desirability varies. We were lucky with Site 43 – foliage provided some privacy, and we had a view of Lake Marie from the back of our site. Most of the sites on the inside of the loop have no separation/privacy between them.
Activities: There is a one-mile hilly trail around Lake Marie, and there is access to the dunes. We were last at this campground 30 years ago with our two young children and remember they had a great time playing in the dunes, however, if people with OHVs were out on the dunes (which is popular), it would not have been good for young children. After fire restrictions on all non-coastal campgrounds we have recently stayed at, fires were allowed, and wood sales were available from 2 p.m.– 8 p.m.
This was an overnight stay for us as we made our way down the Oregon Coast, and we enjoyed our stay.
RangerNotice the asphalt spaces were not very level. Most RV/Campers had to use blocks to level out. Very woods sites and all spaces shaded. This site is close to the Eel Lake for boating, and across the highway101 is access to the dunes. But this State park is not gear up for ATV riders. A must to RSVP for the summer. Can get cel service and mobile data service. Park Host clean up sites quickly. On the East side of HwY 101. About 6 miles North to Winchester Bay, and a few more miles to the beach. Pay day use parking of $4 to Douglas County for beach access.

GuideWe stay at Tugman often because it’s a great Oregon State Campground and is conveniently located off Hwy 101 and close to a lot of outdoor activities the southern coast of Oregon has to offer.
The park is clean, the rangers are super friendly as are the camp hosts in this loop. This park particularly seems to draw a great crowd of campers; very diversified - every type of camping here from Coaches and trailers to Yurt renters and tent enthusiast.
This trip we stayed in site A36. Long back in site and we had problem backing our 32’ trailer into. The site is pretty level and has good coverage / privacy from the campground road and the two sites that boarder it. There’s a decent size area in the back of the site that could fit several tents (maybe a medium and small tent?). The only con it’s situated closer to Hwy 101 and there is significant road noise during peak travel times. Overall - we’d stay on this site again.
LegendThis is a great find! The lower loop has no hookups and it is definitely made for smaller rigs. I was sweating it to get our 30ft 5th wheel out of there! The upper lip has hookups and is easier to maneuver for larger rigs. The day use area is nice. Rocks in the river are super slippery! Nice Frisbee golf course. 5 yurts for rent also. Fairly good shade. Showers cost to use.

Eel lake was a lot of fun!! Good fishing from the dock as well as from our kayaks and SUP boards. Overall it was a great place to stay and can not wait to go back soon.
GuideLarge park with tent spaces, rv hookups, and yurts! Oak grassland doesnt provide very many bushes to hide behind, so absolute privacy is hard to achieve when the park is busy. Sprawling and varried disc golf course with some spectacular long shots, and tight trees. Play structure for the little ones, boat ramp, waterfront sites on the renown North Umpqua river (great fishing and swimming), shower facilities (lots of bathrooms, some flushing, some pit toilets).
Great place to just get outdoors, without being too far from stores and humanity.
GuideThis was a great campground nestled in the trees off the coast and nearby some towns for amenities. We stayed two nights in a yurt and used this as a base camp for some day hikes and town exploring. Beautiful. Cleanish bathrooms. Lots of mosquitos. Very damp. Lots of trees. Deer in the park. Lots of trails around the lake too.
Do yourself a favor and check out the Harbor Light restaurant two towns North and get their clam chowder and elk shepherds pie. To die for.

Tons of campsites around this area. We found this one looking for vacancies one weekend. Spot was close to the opening but road noise wasn't too bad. Site itself was on the smaller side. Just had our tent this time around no spots for trailers. Bathrooms werent the greatest, very smelly for the summer time. They did have some yurts on site and larger group areas. Close to clackamas river so fishing and swimming was easily accessible. No internet out here! (Verizon) Also if you need cash closest store was Promitory Park.

This was a beautiful place. The deluxe yurts made a really easy first camping trip for my husband and kids. The downside is there’s only 2 restroom locations and 1 shower location for the whole park and marina. There was a couple of portable potties, too, thankfully. The swim beach is small and the water is muddy, but the kids loved it. We rented a boat from the marina and spent most of one day on the water. Every single staff (office, marina, etc) here was so pleasant to interact with - that was awesome! Such a pretty, quiet and nice camp.
Ranger147 acres. 50 sites 14 are power. Large area for group camping. They have 2 yurts. Disc golf rated number 2 in nation. child play area and free parking for campers. You can apply for a veterans card and camp free. The fishing is great and they have a boat ramp. I would recommend this place, but if your in the group area it can be a little noisy. The goal zero lighthouse 250 really lit up the camp site. And it charged my phone. Would definitely recommend goal zero products. LegendThis sneaks away from the main road and has a confident small river, plus there’s a huge variety of sites of all sizes (+ a couple of yurts). You’ve got good hiking if it suits your fancy and it’s easy to combine sites if you want even more space. Add professional camp hosts, romantic and amazingly functional hand water pumps and rich greenery, and you’ve got some good memories. An annoying fence separates a lot of sites from the river, and there might be more spectacular scenery elsewhere, but Fish Creek won’t let you down. A good place to not be lonely.

Wonderful park and delightful hosts! Clean toilets; open 730am-900pm during summer, and 8am-8pm other times. The RV faces a wonderful park. There’s a nice trail to walk or run around the park, and also by the river minutes away. There are 2 spaces for tent camping, and 11 available RV sites and all are pull-throughs but one. And if you don’t have either a tent or camper you can rent the 5-person yurt with bathroom and kitchen (but no stove, just microwave.) There are stores, a hamburger joint and a coffee shop just down the road; in fact there’s a 24-hr mini store you’ll drive by on your way to the RV park.
ScoutPeople in other reviews say the sites aren’t so close they’re on top of each other- idk where they have stayed in other places but these sites are so close together that in my tent site I could make eye contact and hear everything other people were talking about. Even in the yurt- I could hear everyone around me, even hear other sites that were farther away- like full conversations. This campground has way too many sites- and with fees it still ends up being expensive at $27 a night for a tiny tent site. Loud, crowded, don’t stay here if you want peace and quiet. Good for families or groups I guess- as a solo traveler I definitely will not ever come back to this site.
LegendThis is one of the cleanest campgrounds we’ve been in. The grounds are manicured and cleaned constantly by the hosts. Hosts were pleasant.
This campground offers full hook up or dry camping and they also have yurts and a couple cabins. The road and sites are paved with large grassy and dirt areas to set up tents or whatnot. There is a hike around Lake Marie from the campground and you can also hike to the lighthouse and down to the beach. There is ATV use on the dunes.
Each site has picnic table, fire pit and moderate amount of privacy some more than others. Mix of sun and shade.
The bathrooms and showers were very clean with free hot water. Garbage is available as well as water spigots throughout. No recycling though. Firewood is sold via an automatic pay system at the pay kiosk pick up wood from host. No dump available. If you need anything hosts and rangers are always out and about. Would definitely stay here again! Good cell service with ATT, Verizon and TMobile
GuideWe stayed on site A33. This site was easy to back into and it was plenty big enough for our 32’ foot trailer and truck. This site sits close yo Hwy 101, so you will get some road noise, but it wasn’t so loud that it out a damper on our camping experience. Site A33 is mostly private and does have ample room in the rear of the site for about 2 small tents or 1 medium / large tent.
The camp hosts and StTe park employees were very approachable and friendly.
Tugman is well suited for all varieties of campers to from singles, couples and families and can accommodate tents, trailers, 5th wheels, vans and has yurts available for rental.
The adjacent park has plenty of green space, a boat launch, a playground, picnic tables and restroom ( very family friendly).
The campground is very close to several activities to include boating, fishing, paddling boarding, kayaking, hiking and recreational riding on the dunes. It’s also close to Lakeside, Reedsport and Coos Bay that if you forget supplies or looking for alternate to cooking camp style - you have options to get or find what you need.
TravelerThis lovely county park campground near Roseburg offers trees, shade from the summer heat, and scenery, but I'm giving it 3 stars for being crowded and somewhat noisy. I admit I was there during peak season, and spent only 1 night, but found that my tent site lacked privacy, and the structure of the gravel road and pull-ins was such that almost every site (except for 1 perimeter drive) was subject to regular vehicle and foot traffic. There is a large yurt for rent on one end of the campground, constructed on a spacious deck overlooking the creek. It appeared to be handicapped-accessible, but as I stood admiring it, I could hear traffic noise from the highway. In between my campsite and the Campground Host's was a camper full of kids in their tweens, who started roaming the small campground after 10pm, making loud, obnoxious noises and laughing hysterically at themselves. When this went on for nearly half an hour with no intervention from adults, I did shout "SHUT UP!" at them after they passed my site and seemed to direct a shout at my tent. They stopped after that, but I hated to be That Person. There were flush toilets, running water, and showers. Bathrooms had neither soap nor paper towels or a working blow-dryer for your hands, so be a good scout and go prepared!

Campground Review:
The drive to Fish Creek Campground on the 224 (Clackamas hwy) is beautiful. You’ll be surprised by sudden breathtaking views of the river along the way while delving deeper into a sea of beautiful green trees. We chose this campsite because it is reasonably close to a few of Oregon’s most interesting hot springs and we ended up visiting Bagby during our trip. The campsite itself has everything you would expect from a somewhat remote campground including a horrifying bathroom scene (not to mention the mouse that surprised me when I went to the bathroom in the middle of the night). There are a few sites with river access but ours (spot 8) was blocked from the river with a small fence. There are also a couple of yurts you can rent that include bunk beds and some advanced shelter as compared to tent camping if you have kids with you. I’d give this campsite a 3 out of 5 stars, and can promise you there are many better sites along the way if you book early. This has everything you need for minimalist camping, but be aware that you probably won’t be able to start a campfire if you visit in August/early September.

As a Ranger for The Dyrt I get to review some great and often very practical products. This trip I was lucky enough to upgrade my Tepui Kukenam 3 rooftop tent with Luxury sheets.
I chose the blue sheets to compliment my Haze Grey tent (the other option is green). I have to admit I was a little hesitant to admit that sheets could be a necessary part of camping. It is after all referred to as “roughing it” but I have to say that adding these sheets to my rooftop tent has made a huge difference. I put the bottom sheet on the first night and left it on when I folded the tent down for the night. It stayed in place perfectly, and these sheets are so much softer than the green, rough, water resistant cover that sits on the mattress by default. Now that I have these sheets I can’t imagine sleeping up there without them. I still used my sleeping bag along with the sheets and an extra blanket because it was pretty chilly at night, but the added comfort the sheets provided took my comfort to the next level. I highly recommend them to anyone sleeping in a rooftop tent!
