    Winchester Bay RV Resort

    An Oregon Coast Gem!

    RV resort for sure. Beautifully landscaped and right on the bay. All paved roads and level sites that are back in and pull through. It's a busy place so tough to get a reservation unless you book way ahead. Walking and bike path surrounds the park. Close to the small community of Winchester Bay that has a grocery store and restaurants. Just a great park.

    Deerwood RV Park

    Nice RV park, but not worth the price

    We had a 10 day stay. Let me start with the positives:

    • Most spaces have at least 10-12 feet of grass between.
    • Nicely maintained.
    • Nice location, lots of trees and grassy areas.
    • Asphalt pads for most sites, some premium sites have a concrete pad for RV/trailer/camper with asphalt in front.
    • Decent wifi during the day, but slow as molasses at night. Assuming people streaming or downloading.

    Negatives:

    • One way route around the park.
    • Road is narrow and winding, larger rigs have issues with staying on path.
    • Mostly back-in spaces, which combined with the road, makes for interesting times getting your rig settled.
    • Spaces are fairly short, especially on Standard sites. We barely fit our 39’ Class A and a 2 door Jeep Wrangler. If our vehicle had been any longer, we would have had to park in overflow parking. We saw a lot of fifth wheels with no other vehicle in the space, we assumed they were in the overflow area.
    • No real spot to unhook a tow, except for the overflow parking area, which has a wider road portion.
    • Some signs of semi-permanent residents.
    • If you have a satellite, I am not sure the shady/trees spots would orient. We saw a lot of tailgater dishes at front of spots (we had a lawn spot with landscaping, but not in the trees).
    • Grassy lawn area is large enough to require weekly maintenance and the lawn mowing can be annoying.
    • ALL spots require jack pads. Having not stayed in too many parks with asphalt, this was a surprise for us. They did not mention at checkin, but we got a polite email the next morning.
    • Billed as a luxury rv park. Price does not reflect that. No pool, just laundry/showers/restrooms.
    • Freeway noise. Very close to I-5. Louder on the side of park closest to street and entrance.

    Rising River RV Resort & River House

    Cute RV Park near the river

    Super friendly rv management and staff- could not have been more welcoming. There are 2 dog runs, laundry, showers and bathrooms on site. Small store in the management office for sundries and rv gear. There are some full timers who live in the park but seem to be isolated in 1 part of the park.

    Gravel pad, no cement. 30 & 50 amp hookups along with water, sewer, cable and WiFi. WiFi drops often and can’t be used for streaming. No troubles with ATT cellular service.

    Park is next to a mobile home park that may be sketchy, but the RV park is a gated community that needs a passcode from 6 pm to 8am daily. I felt perfectly safe within the park but there is no food or shopping within walking distance. Not far drive though is a grocery mart and plentiful restaurants. Roseburg itself has everything you could need within a 10-15 min drive from the park.

    I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

    Note: spot 62 was close to Hwy 99 and you can here the traffic if your windows are open.

    Loon Lake Lodge and RV Resort

    3.5/5 - not bad for a quick getaway

    The website was not kidding about not following the directions through Google Maps. The last 9 miles to the resort was really trying - the roads were narrow, twisty and winding. If you are probe to car-sickness, go slow. I took extra precaution and dabbed essential oils on myself and my children.

    Our pull-through site was in the Upper Marina, #22. If you have an extra canopy for camping, I'd suggest you bring it. It got really HOT when we were there. The good news is once the sun sets behind the trees, around 6pm, it makes eating dinner at the picnic table so comfortable and cooling.

    My husband and children perused the bathroom/shower facilities which was just across from our campsite. He said it was spacious - a shower + private bathroom + sink setup and wide enough for a family.

    Access to the swimming beach/boat launch is just a short 3 minutes walk. You just have to exercise caution because you will be crossing a main road (cars and big logging trucks rumble along often enough during the week).

    The swimming (sandy) beach is cosy (read: tiny). There are no lifeguards on duty but enough trees offering shade for parents/families to sit back and keep watch.

    You would have to drive back 5 minutes down the road to visit the Lodge for supplies or ice. The Lodge also provides some light refreshments* (deli sandwiches and ice-cream).

    Our site offered full hook-ups including cable (limited channels). WIFI* was a disappointment though - we had to create an account for a complimentary hour of WIFI usage every day. Together with the zero cell reception, it renders us completely off the grid. It's great really to totally relax your mind and body but it is worrisome for that what-if's scenarios.

    *Ice-cream was very pricey for the single not-generous scoop in a plastic cup that we bought for each of us. Because of the steep prices and WIFI availability (you have to pay if you want to get connected), I could only give a rating of 3.5/5 stars.

    Otherwise, we had a great time at the RV resort. The sites are appealing for huge family reunion (we witnessed such a reunion during our trip). We will be back! 😊

    We are a family of 4 (2 young boys with no pets). We traveled with a travel trailer.

    Casey's Riverside RV resort

    One of Our Favorites

    Our GPS brought us right to the campground (CG). This was our third time staying in what we consider one of our top 5 CGs. Check-in was quick and easy. We proceeded to pull through site 49, which was plenty long enough for our 40’ fifth wheel and F450. The water and electric were centered on the pad. The sewer sat a little farther back on the pad, but that was not an issue. You can hear the river really well from site 49, and that is the major reason we chose this site. If you don't like the sound of a raging river, you would want to get a site further down or a site not on the river. We had good water pressure around 50 psi, 2 bars on Verizon, and the CG WiFi was okay. Even though there were mature trees, we got a good north shot for Starlink. Satellite could be iffy depending on your site. Sites are okay spaced, with some sites closer together than others. Our utilities side neighbor was very close, and our yard side was nearby. They have a nice laundry with 3 washers and dryers that cost $1.50 to wash/dry. There was a significant increase in train traffic from the tracks across the river as compared to our last stay. There were also some updates, such as putting in a really nice pavilion with an outdoor fireplace plus some landscaping additions. The Westfir/Oakridge area is known as the mountain biking capital of the Northwest, and there are a multitude of biking and hiking trails.

    Shamrock Village RV And Mhp

    Camping in a neighborhood

    Definitely more of a trailer park with long term residents than a short term RV Park. People are friendly and cost is low. But there are no sewer hook ups for short term guests and they do not have a dump station.

    Umpqua's Last Resort & Oregon Mountain Guides

    An adventure and accommodation for everyone!

    General: Located just across the street from the North Umpqua River, there is a mix of:•

    * petite RV sites (RVs up to 20’ with FHU 20-30 amp- 3)

    * deluxe RV sites (RVs up to 29’ with FHU 30-50 amp- 5)

    * Super RV sites (RVs up to 60’ with FHU 50 amp- 7)

    * glamping tents (7)

    * cabins with heat and A/C(4)

    * a cottage

    * a tiny home

    * camper

    * retro bunkhouse

    * retro RV

    Site Quality: We were in a deluxe RV site that had a level gravel camper pad, electric hookup, fire ring, and picnic table. Unlike most RV parks, there was a decent amount of foliage between most sites to provide a measure of privacy.

    Bath/Shower House: Two toilets, two sinks, and two showers. Clean but limited privacy for the toilets with just a curtain. Bench and hooks are outside of showers with no other separation so there is a lack of privacy there as well (did not use the shower so I cannot comment on how well it worked, although they looked nice).

    Activities/Amenities:

    * Guided and Self-guided hiking tours

    * Guided and self-guided mountain bike tours

    * a full-day waterfall tour ($75 pp, with 24-hour advance notice)

    * whitewater rafting tours

    * Stream and river fishing holes

    * Fly fishing and hunting

    * Kayak rentals on Toketee Lake (We had hoped to do this, but the weather had other plans)

    * Wi-Fi is available for $2.99 per 24-hour period per device but it was flaky at best

    * There is a store with ice, firewood, food, beer, and wine, apparel, propane, diesel, and gasoline, rafts, and sleds.

    We arrived later than planned (just before dark) and it was cold and rainy the next day so we were not able to take advantage of the many nearby recreation activities but the staff recommended a nearby waterfall hike that we could do in inclement weather. We would definitely consider returning during better weather.

    Deerwood RV Park

    Nice place for longer stays

    Back in lots are shaded and not stacked closely together. Wifi shows but no wifi. We used Verizon puck and worked fine. Grounds are kept up nicely. Appears there are long term camping sites, unlike many places we’ve traveled, they are well maintained and clean!! Only small drawback is the hwy traffic if in lots 45-70. This was mainly in the evening when sitting outside but a no issue inside. Overall nice place!!

    On The River Golf & RV Resort

    Great gateway to the Coast

    Great location off the 5 and 42 if you're looking to get to the coast. Also right outside the city of Roseburg. They have a 6 hole 3 par golf course. The course and grounds are kept with fountains and beautiful flowers. Lots of sites with full hookups including sewer. Back in and pull through sites available. Miles of walking trails and a river for tubing or fishing off the docks. Showers and bathrooms available. Women's restroom and laundry room are under construction until October 2023. No laundry room and the park is very dark at night when other RV's aren't around, are the only reasons I didn't give 5 stars. Otherwise the owners are a delight and the full time residents are friendly. Make sure you bring cash, they don't take cards. Which wasn't a big deal, they also gave us a discount for the week. This is a nice family run park and it will definitely go on our 'save for next summer' list.

Guide to Sutherlin

The Sutherlin area sits in central Douglas County at approximately 500 feet elevation, positioned between the Cascade Mountains and Oregon Coast Range. Campgrounds near Sutherlin provide access to the Umpqua River system with seasonal water recreation opportunities from April through October. Most RV campgrounds in Sutherlin, Oregon and surrounding communities serve as convenient bases for exploring nearby wildlife viewing areas and wineries.

What to do

Fishing access points: At Elkton RV Park, campers have direct access to the Umpqua River. "Great fishing," notes Dan R., who gave the park five stars. The park positions visitors within walking distance to Elkton's small downtown area where supplies can be obtained.

Drive-in movies: From June through September, Hi-Way Haven RV Park shows films on their preserved drive-in theater screen. "They serve free popcorn," reports Andrea P., adding that "if you choose to sit in the nice grassy area (plastic Adirondack chairs provided) for the movie they serve free popcorn. If you can see screen from your site the sound on FM station."

Golf course access: The new Bar Run Golf and RV Resort offers an 18-hole course designed by Dan Hickson adjacent to camping areas. Julie G. shares, "Golfed every day on the most beautiful and challenging 18 hole course. Campground is new with concrete pads. Back-ins have grass, Pull throughs have a turf pad."

River swimming: Multiple parks offer river access for summer swimming. The Umpqua moves slowly in certain sections, making it family-friendly. Mike M. from Umpqua Riverfront notes the "river runs Sloooow" and is a "great place for the kids to swim."

What campers like

Retro theming: Hi-Way Haven RV Park preserves its drive-in theater history through thoughtful design elements. Coleen B. explains, "It's a converted drive-in theater and they've taken the retro theme to heart and run with it." The park maintains this nostalgic atmosphere throughout the grounds.

Riverside relaxation: Several RV parks in the Sutherlin region offer direct river frontage with viewing areas. At Rising River RV Resort, Sunshine G. found "the river is just beautiful, and there's a nice, long, grassy stretch that's good for walking, with benches and a lovely view."

Dog-friendly facilities: Multiple parks offer designated pet areas. Katie E. appreciated that Hi-Way Haven "was a great place to be stuck at for a couple nights! The hosts were so friendly and gave us some good tips for our camper. The park was also very dog friendly and has a couple fenced in areas for off leash puppy time."

Clean amenities: Parks in the region generally maintain high cleanliness standards. According to Roxanna L., Rising River staff were "very kind and welcoming. Helped us back into our site. Sites are large enough to park vehicle next to camper. Picnic area is on cement. Very clean and organized."

What you should know

Limited river swimming access: While river sites are popular, swimming access varies. Lance S. noted at Rising River RV Resort, "The park is in great shape, sites even have some grass. They have a nice small grass dog run, a few trails that go down to the river and it's peaceful down there."

Road noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience significant road noise. Dawn explained that Douglas County Fairgrounds RV Park "is right off a highly traveled hwy without any natural barrier to prevent road noise. The sites are pretty close to one another. Still a good place for the night."

Seasonal operation: Several campgrounds operate on limited schedules. Loon Lake Lodge and RV Resort only operates from April 15 through October 31, limiting winter camping options in the area.

Security measures: Some parks implement nighttime security systems. Carrie noted at Rising River, "the RV park is a gated community that needs a passcode from 6 pm to 8am daily."

Tips for camping with families

Water recreation spots: The slow-moving sections of the Umpqua River provide safe swimming for children. At On The River Golf & RV Resort, visitors have access to "miles of walking trails and a river for tubing or fishing off the docks," according to the Brose' Family.

Entertainment options: Families appreciate parks with multiple activity options. At Bar Run, Julie G. described, "The pool is amazing with a lazy river and inner tubes to float on with a large 1-4ft area. Brand new and still under construction. Lifeguards are on duty."

Kid-friendly campsites: Some locations specifically cater to family needs. Katie O. from Loon Lake Lodge shared, "The deluxe yurts made a really easy first camping trip for my husband and kids."

Playground availability: Parents value parks with play structures. Andrea P. mentioned Hi-Way Haven has a "playground" along with other family amenities.

Tips from RVers

Sewer hookup requirements: Different RV campgrounds in the Sutherlin area have specific hookup protocols. Tjitte F. noted at Hi-Way Haven, "Full hook-up. Condition for your sewer connection is that it has to be on a support (Available in the shop)."

Site positioning: Sites vary widely in privacy and spacing. Daric G. from Rising River observed the resort is "too 'packed in' for our tastes. No trees, shrubs or any other barriers to give you the 'camping' feel."

Big rig access: Most parks accommodate larger RVs but with varying site sizes. Scott D. described Rising River as having "sites next to river and some pull through sites. I like staying here on trip down to California."

Wi-Fi limitations: Internet access varies significantly by location. Carrie noted at Rising River, "WiFi drops often and can't be used for streaming. No troubles with ATT cellular service."
